1. Is wrong. There's plenty of ways to submit ppl on ur back. 1. should be dominate in both positions. I've rolled with blackbelts that rather stay on their back cuz they're not expending energy standing up.

@@ifthatthenthis3797 Why should I have to do MMA when I can just add the strike defense back in and train Jiu-jitsu the way it was meant to be trained. I do by the way and I teach it that way. I know plenty of guys in their 60s and 70 still training BJJ this way.

@@dragonballjiujitsu for training okay because people can just hit you lightly but for competition well it would be better suited for MMA. I wouldn't want to train anywhere where I'm getting my head blasted if I make a mistake. But then again I don't train BJJ for self-defense I do it for fun. And self defense I got my guns.

@@ifthatthenthis3797 They are meant to be trained that way. Also you are far more likely to need empty had self defense than a gun. I carry a gun and two knives everywhere and have trained with them extensively both professionally and as a civilian but they are not a replacement for being able to fight. In fact, if you carry you should def be able to actually fight.

@@dragonballjiujitsu well I probably wouldn't train it if I got hit to be honest. And I think it's wouldn't be as popular as it is. If it became too hard core. And mma is for hardcore shit, I suck at fighting now so I got to definitely rely on my tools and verbal judo. If that doesn't work I'm fucked.

Yes, I noticed this verbal tic or stutter from a different speech. My guess is that he has overcome this very slight speech impediment over the years. My respect for the man grows, speaking in public whilst mastering a verbal tic is no easy feat.

He's not wrong, and he knows the difference between Greco and Freestyle. Most traditional styles of folk wrestling, from Sumo to Glima to Lucha Canaria, and many more, were based on standing throws. Ground wrestling, while not unknown, was considered unpractical and left largely undeveloped until about the late 19th century. Of course, the ancient Olympic games featured a kind of freestyle wrestling with ground wrestling and what we would consider submission holds, but all in the service of a fall.

cdcaleo thx for the reply. I don’t think you read my post. I said he was wrong on why there is no break falls in wrestling. He credited it to using a soft mat devised post WW2. The science and practicality of break falling does not apply to wrestling because in wrestling the throw ends with your opponent driving their weight on top of you. In judo you can break fall because the goal was to finish the throw while you remained standing. Hence, dispersing the energy of your own body as it hits the mat. Not your body and also the attackers.

I disagree with his history of Judo prior to WWII. You can find old pre-WWII Judo books where over half the techniques covered were newaza.
