Remember Terminator 2 when Cameron explained to Arnold why he couldn't toss Robert Patrick around like a rag doll because the T-1000 character actually weighs more than Arnold's character because of the liquid metal? Back when obvious size differences that saw the smaller guy overpowering the bigger guy was rare and well explained for the story before 90 pound girls suddenly start kicking ass like they're on a diet of Wheaties and cocaine.... 🙄

I have more faith in this than anything from Lucasfilm 🤷‍♂️

Just a little info of what potentially we’ll have. Kurt Johnstad is the screenwriter for 300, Act of Valor, and Atomic Blonde. While Shay Hatten did John Wick 3&4, Army of the Dead, and Day Shift.

Shoutout to those VERY accommodating stuntmen, despite twice her size, they're making the Girl Who's the Key to Everything look so stunning and brave in the fight scenes.

MauLer's reference to the Punisher fight scene between Thomas Jane and Kevin Nash is exactly what I've said for a while. Nash could literally pick up Thomas and throw him 20 feet. Also, just as a fun fact, the part where Thomas stabs Nash in the shoulder, that was an ACTUAL knife that was mistakenly left on set. There was supposed to be a collapsible blade but it was misplaced, so Nash was REALLY STABBED with a real knife, and the look on Thomas Jane's face was real cause he realized he really stabbed him. But Nash just stayed in character and kept going. No way that any chick is doing that.

All Netflix cares about at the moment is making their shareholders happy. Being a Zack Snyder film, it will probably do insanely well because he's one of the few directors who makes films for the audience.

I watched this yesterday with a coworker and we were impressed. As you guys said, visually it's pretty impressive. I'm a fan of Zack Snyder's aesthetic. I'm honestly getting a mashup of Gladiator, Dune, Star Wars, and John Carter, all of which I've enjoyed. So long as there isn't a bunch of woke crap in it, I'll enjoy it.

This looks like John Carter meets dune. I'm totally with them though when they said they would love to have a new good science fiction franchise. It feels like ages since we got one of those.

In a weird way I consider this movie a New Hope for Star Wars fans.

You know what else is no moon? That alleged Indian moon landing.

I looks shallow and simplistic, but very well put together technically and probably moderately entertaining. Which is about what I expected.

This has been Zack's idea for quite a long time, even before the Star Wars pitch. If WB allowed him to make at that time, this movie would have been the basis of most of the the sci fi - fantasy movies of the past 2 decades... not the other way around.

Mass Effect as femshep almost solved the 120 lb girl vs. 225 lb. manbeast meme. Outside of one optional conversation with a squadmate, she never fights without being inside a power armor shell. And the one exception is worth skipping, it really doesn't read as well as it does with broshep. I thought of that when Jeremy said "dude if we could get ONE good original sci-fi series", and I thought "just play through Mass Effect again." Seeing that scargiver stuff and the gratuitous greenscreen Nuremburg Rally shot just made me roll my eyes and wait for Dune 2.

Zack Snyder delivered Netflix a 6 hours cut of the movie, and instead of fighting him to cut they just said "Fuck it, we will release it as a two part". No way in hell they greenlit a 2 part movie without a established IP, no one does that.

I read details of the general plot and, visual details aside, it sounds more like Battle Beyond the Stars ( which is of course the SF version of The Seven Samurai and The Magnificent Seven). Sophia Boutela (forget the spelling) is a character called Kora, a former member of the "Imperium" defending the titular "Rebel Moon". And sets off to find warriors to recruit in the moons defence. So she's not the "Princess Issa" named as the chosen one character. Also the stated budget $166 million, is for parts 1 and 2.

I'm so glad the Drinker mentions the fight between the punisher and the russian huge dude, one of the best movie fights of all time imo, cause the hero, who is the punisher and is a certified badass gets his ass pounded for a good 15 mins straight by a bigger dude until he finally starts to use his wits to overcome the evidently stronger opponent.

The best trailer in 2023 so far. (subjectively)

Gotta give it to Zack Snyder for giving us yet again an original IP, even though it's based on a battered genre. Last time it was zoombies, now it's spaaaaace. The trio of writers for this has me a bit worried, but I really want this movie to be good.

Issa is the Arabic name for Jesus, Hounsou plays a character named Titus and the image of the cyborg hand in the field looks a lot like the one from Gladiator. Expect something inspired by the 1st century Rome, mixed with religious elements.

The line "a myth is indestructible" Reminds me of the series of books that started with "the man who never missed". It's an amazing extremely well written and extremely well thought out series about somebody who wanted to bring down an empire by striking that one, tiny fault point with exactly the right amount of pressure. You find the one tine in the cogs that make the machine run you can break that makes it all just come apart...slowly at first, then all at once.

Great reaction guys and thanks for the laughs! Now, a bit of history for this film. This had been a passion project of Zacks since the 1980s. He's been a huge Star Wars fan since he was a kid. Even cosplayed as Luke Skywalker from The Empire Strikes Back. The Best Star Wars ever made. Anyways yes, we all know Disney/Lucasfilm turned down his project and glad they did. Where Lucasfilm is now doesn't and never will understand Star Wars. Star Wars is not the only source of inspiration, But many of Akira Kurosawa's films, (Mainly Seven Samurai (1954)), Heavy Metal Magazines, The Magnificent Seven and many more to name. As for Anthony Hopkins role. He'll be voicing the role of a robot named Jimmy. The Last member of a race of Mechanical Knights that served under The Fallen King and the one who was with that griffin is named Tarak. Who is based on Conan the Barbarian. This is Zacks take on two of the greatest films ever made and i cannot wait to see it.

I think the robot touching the grain is to signify that the robot is trying to tell the myth, and he regrets not being able to feel "life" - it could be that he regrets not being able to feel things as organic beings do. It feels like a war veteran telling the story of an epic fight he was part of or knows about as an observer - like a 300 story told in a sci-fi universe. 01:40. I don't think they meant to say she's "the key to everything", just that she will do something that will end the war machine that is the scourge of this galaxy (and that could be something as simple as just being able to successfully resist a single attack on their village (since that would seen as an unforgivable act of rebellion) - it feels like the movie is trying to lean into the "anti-war film" feel but then decides it wants to show you the heroic fight of the "Resistance" as well (that is why you see several of them experiencing the horrors of war) - weighing up the cost of war and the suffering it brings. Think of what Riddick did to end the madness of the leader of the Necromongers. That is why I think it's split in two movies - the first is the group trying to stop the attack from the war effort on their planet, the other is probably taking the fight to the doorstep of the war machine, perhaps even to the Prince whose hubris is probably going to be his downfall. The myth the robot tells has the benefit of hindsight - of adding parts to the story that the story didn't have if told in a linear fashion - but it can be that the robot is telling it BEFORE the fight, or it can be him "remembering" the past - only once we watch the movie will we know for sure. 04:54. Having just watched Quest for the DeepStar (2023), they did it RIGHT for a change. Yes, the daughter can fight the with the best of them (but they give her opponents just a tiny bit of size advantage), but she can also get hurt (plus, the movie actually has a little surprise twist on WHY she's such a tough fighter). Also, it has ZERO politics in it - it's just a fun space adventure that a daughter and her dad has, while they are being pursued by an ex-boss from hell and a merc crew looking for a mythical lost ship with treasure on it. They even have a variation of CGI and ACTUAL monster effects - the CGI looks like a low-budget, but the practical stuff were okay. 10:27. That actually looks a lot like a Chinese swordswoman, perhaps even a swordmaster/Goddess of Sword. (God of Sword being an elite swordsman). Chinese costume dramas and historical epics have that kind of character as a semi-regular feature now. 15:49. 100% agree. Everyone who has praised the trailer so far has said that it's something that should be shown in theatres. It lends itself to an epic that should be shown/watched on a big screen.
