@@duanecameronson*How would you know ?.. I know personally that all the players loved Dew as their coach and a father figure. A lot of the players actually signed to stay on because they thought Dew would be their coach for years going forward. Dew had finally made his list he wanted to take them to finals and this year was looking better with some great wins on the road and they we're going pretty well and then Dew gets a knife driven into his back. It's all just Fluff. Absolute fluff.*
Hold your head high Dewy I think with the playlist you had you have achieved above what could have been achieved,no coach that I can think of would have gotten a better result, the people in charge of the playlist are who need questioning, the ability to gather the best players is the difference between success and failure
Very rare for a footy club to move on a coach with decency and respect, always seems to be handled badly. And Stuart Dew is gone while the people that extended his contract, leaked to the media and lied to him remain at the club.
It's 2023 mate Part of corporate business. It be honest I think Stewie needs to start looking after himself. He works In Th fitness n health of elite sport
@@tomquinn823but the head of the footy not within the 4 walls? Dimma would never tolerate it. Which other club has the head of footy living outer state. Stewie probably has sacrificed his own well-being/been under a lot of stress. He can leave that mess behind now and prioritise himself.
To be fair it's work at Collingwood, and it is at the moment working for Essendon, and oddly enough the Giants two at the moment, and it has led to premierships in the past for teams. So it depends on who you hire.
Basketcase club. Unsurprisingly, the Suns presser today was poor. Failed to answer questions, told lies, and wanted to get it over as quickly as possible. As Gerard said, made a man fight for his job that he already lost. I wonder what else will come out after this? I'm not saying that Dew has no blame or that his coaching shouldn't be scrutinized, but he wasn't operating in the best circumstances and didn't have a great list. The whole club needs to be reviewed, not just the coach.
A board making this media stance for a coach and effectively parading them for their job to ultimately backstab them has become far too common. Saw it with Ben Rutten at the Bombers last year (my club). Yes Dew was not entirely perfect, however, the worst thing is for Gold Coast is now a lack of stability, which will more than likely push them futher back and make the progress made under Dew worthless. If Gold Coast manage to get to finals under their caretaker, it won't be from the hard work in the second half of the season, Dew put in the hard years over his tenure.
@@BetterDoneGood someone said Dew got all their key players signed and now they've shipped him off. Players have to take some responsibility for their performances. But they're gonna have to get Dimma or similar to prevent the club imploding.
@@BetterDoneGoodthe successful clubs always have a good mix of great draft picks, but just as importantly do good trades with other clubs, think May, Lever, Prestia, Lynch, Cameron, Daniher, Allir, etc just to name a few. Apart from Ablett, they have only had really limited success with blokes like Weller, Casboult, Ellis, etc. Need to sort that part out as much as anything else,
Been saying this for a long time, get rid of the Suns altogether. QLD is really only big enough for 1 club. Give their license to the NT. Hve'nt made the Finals in their whole existence. Time for the AFL to realise that it hasn't worked. Compare the Suns to what GWS hve done.
I'll see you and raise you Malcolm Blight. St. Kilda brought him in after he took a break after winning 2 flags for the Crows.. and he was gone in less than a season!?
Very disappointed by the actions of the Gold Coast Suns's board and Mark Evans. Not the way to treat someone who has worked so hard and inherited a crap show of a situation, like Robbo said, the first three years should not even be counted! Stuart Dew has done an amazing job with with one hand tied in the back for a long time! High praise and respect for Stuart and wish him all the success and happiness.
Yep I think Dew has maybe even over-achieved with that list. I don't think they will lose to many players this year which is ironic since they need the points and the trade bait are players they must keep. The main reason they need to get in Hardwick is to hopefully lure some quality top-up players and keep King, without that they are not making finals any time soon. GC are all in now with a Jack and a 10.
It's a fair point to observe that many clubs treat their coaches really badly when it comes time to move them on. But you miss a very important player in these scenarios: the media. They are the sharks that circle a coach who is doing badly and they don't give a toss about the person (let alone his family) in this situation. They just about force the club CEOs or presidents to make that fateful statement about how 'he has the full support of the board' just before they put the knife in.
The ridiculous thing is, they were a good chance of at least 4 wins in the remaining home and away season. Lining up Hardwick without saying so explicitly. Ratten/Lyon all over again.
Let's face it , as soon as Hardwick quit The Tigers, Dew was gone!.P.S wether it was 10 points or 10 goals ,the Suns weren't beating Port in Adelaide🤯 🤦🏾♂️
Suns & Giants shouldn’t be in the AFL. We have the Lions & Swans in the NRL heartland thriving. Imagine if Tassie & NT had those licenses ten years on? Wake up AFL the dream is over.
Its a shame that the only thing we've seem to inherit from soccer is likelyhood of sacking coaches. I know things havent beeen great for the suns but after everything been said in the last 7 days, you'd think they would stand a little taller a little longer at least. As ussuall they'll put pressure on the next guy instead
If Hardwick has had a little something behind the scenes to do with Dews sacking then it’s a pretty dog act especially towards a past team mate and even the club he was supposed to be coaching now
Yes u right. I am sceptical that Hardwick has been approached. Yes a dog act. Wonder if lynch will return to suns if Hardwick gets the job. And Dustin Martin, more to play out here.
If players got sacked with 18 months left on their contract, they wouldn't need much coaching to motivate them to play well. They'll get a rude shock when they leave the AFL system and get a regular job.
"Poor old Ben (Rutten). Anyway, Ben's gone. Everyone feels sorry for Ben, but jeez. So they've got a choice. There's factions on the board that want James Hird." Mark Robinson tried to hound Rutten out of Essendon so he could install his crush James Hird as head coach and now has the gall to bismirch others' moral characters for firing Dew. Slobbo is nothing but a toxic, dysfunctional fanboy - celebrating those who pander to his insecurities while hitting out at everyone else.
It won't matter who coaches a basket case club. Tasmania should have been admitted to the AFL competition before the Gold Coast. The whole concept stinks of political interference from the beginning.
Yes indeed. Clubs are mostly disloyal UNtrusting towards their Coaching staff (especially to head coaches). You are always forever on a cliff face edge, knifes edge, fine line, 0ne step from a stab in your back 🤔🤐
Look at the difference of the Swans football manager, Charlie Gardner. He buzzes around on the bench, and is involved in just about everything, always helping out with whatever he can do.
I doubt they sacked him unless they have another bloke in line. But it's really confusing how this was all handled because it's hard to see any decent coach wanting to go to the suns. Leaks, backstabbing and the laundry list of problems the club has. I have always tried to back the suns but this experiment hasn't worked, just like other sports that seems to fail in GC. They have had so much given to them, top talent, concessions, plus free reign to scout all of QLD for talent. Traditionally, before the suns were introduced the Lions had free reign over the whole area, and the highest quality players were brisbane lions academy. But as the Suns were introduced and they took reign of the area, suddenly everyone was joining the Suns academy. Not trash players but a lot of average players, instead of 1 or 2 players per village game having an academy kid all of sudden there were 10 or 15 suns academy kids. The level of football wasn't improving either. Based on the conditions of grasroots footy there really is no hope in the future for the Suns. One of the only hopes they have is that the AFL allows them to put 50% of the victorian talent pool under their academy system XD
They also need to design a much better jumper for match day - that signifies force - something that players are proud to play for. Enough of the insipid look. Colours are fine, layout all wrong. As a graphic man, I've a good one if the club is ever interested to up the ante. The Suns logo should mean something by now.
The Sun's won't win a flag anytime soon and by the time Tasmania enters the comp in 2028 ,Gold Coast will be in no man's land. They are better off folding.
@@jeremytaylor7722they’re halfway there already , have academies there, play home games there, might as well go the whole way. Add black to the teams colours, and focus on Indigenous talent up there, they would thrive
Yep, give their license to the NT. Hve'nt made the Finals in their whole existence. At least GWS hve played Finals & made a GF. The Suns hve been a failure. Time for the AFL to realise this.
Caro can't win! She goes early breaking stories like this one and the Clarkson/Mitchell rift and everyone says she's making things up, she has no idea etc yet more often than not she gets it right. Someone fed her dodgy intel for the Cripps story so she called to apologise and retracted the claim
@@eponymous7910the main criticism I have isn’t that she just makes things up, but that she stirs the pot and causes or worsens conflicts. She’s just a typical dodgy journalist that shouldn’t be trusted
Would anyone be able to coach this group of players better than Dew? I don’t understand how you could think the Suns would be considered a top 4 team rather than the 5-14 team that they are
But Dew's record is slightly better [30%] than the club's overall performance since the team was established [27%]. So, I would be asking, then, is the coach really the problem or is he just the fall guy? Is the coaching team the problem? Is it a problem related to the club's organisational and professional culture? Is it a player response problem? Is the list simply not good enough? Is it a factor of being - apart from Geelong that has played AFL [and its antecedents] since 1859 - a regional city-based team? And is that also a factor of the artificial location of the team in a tourist city that has had a troubled Rugby League team, over which the NRL has had to assume the running of the club? Maybe the franchise is better placed in a traditional situation: transferring it to Hobart has the advantage of being in an AFL culture and it gets rid of the bye problem for the AFL with an uneven number of teams?
13 seasons? They could play another 33 seasons without finals action & 103 seasons without a flag They're getting paid to be average.. pull the pin.. it's money, time & effort down the toilet 🚽
The Gold Coast is a graveyard for all codes. That's why the Bears moved to Brisbane. Gold coast Chargers NRL failed as well. Titans have done stuff all since they've been around. It doesn't have the demographic to support a big team of any code and now they're trying to get an A league franchise up and running. Fat chance.
*Teams from all sporting codes have all failed on the Gold Coast. It has beautiful weather, players can do as they please and nobody in QLD even knows who they are. It's like players who sign with a Gold Coast team think it's one big holiday. Players party hard on the Goldy with so many temptations....pretty women, drugs and alcohol and they just can't stay focused on the GC. It's happened to so many sports clubs here on the GC. It's the place where clubs come to die.*
@@victorpeirce4753 ..Correct...Tasmania should have been in years ago...but afl insistant on trying to establish team where it assumes there is a money pot. Spiritless city with no passion other than self indulgence...hence, here we are, and where we will be in another 5 years. True footy/sports fans dont buy the spin/ BS....dished out by afl and the likes of flogg ceo...diddums.
Well typical of the suns CEO. Stewy was gradually putting a good side together and he gets removed. Should set them back a couple of years again and then they will sack the next one. No disgrace being beaten by Port.
Probably, but just imagine if got it right, he would be lauded. And it’s such a low bar if he got the Suns to a prelim, everyone would be raving about how amazing that was.
This is by far one of the worst sackings Gold Coast has ever executed, McKenna included. Like Gerard said clubs need to be able to make hard decisions, but you've got to do it with dignity and grace and this had none of that. Hanging Dew out to dry like they did, lying to the press and prehaps even him did not need to happen. If they made the decision then, they should have announced it then. Dew got them to that spot, despite it being an absolute shitshow as Robbo said that even Rodney Eade, who had been at Brisbane in the bad old days, couldn't crack. They had better land Hardwick, because if they don't they're going to realise what Carlton also should have realised at some point over the last 20 years, and that's that it is far from being just the coach. Hell, even if it doesn't work with Dimma they'll probably realise that. Or maybe they won't. They need to do what Brisbane did when they got Wallsy, bring some good footy people with Dimma (if they get him) to change that clubs culture and make people want to stay. Otherwise they havn't got a hope. What is it about a change of president, that usually means a coach is in trouble? Mick Malthouse experienced it at Carlton despite being backed by Greg Swann and Kernahan, and now Dew has experienced it despite being backed by Mark Evans and Tony Cochrane.
now suns are in trouble now most the players signed on because dew was coaching already reports coming out that ben king wants out now and miller wants a trade lots of player 8 or more they have an awful list as it is losing any players will be a hit but thats what you get when you lie to your fan base
I'm going to be honest Stewie Dew should have been fired, and to be honest should have happens last year, but Gold Coast board maybe don't lie the week earlier.
Stewart the critical commenters have said that you are not experienced enough to be a AFL leader , well bless you mate now you have had six years as the Suns coach . All the best for you next job in AFL business !. The spirit of God is with you and so is your fans and your family ! Praise God .🍈🍉🍊🍋🍌🍍🥭🍎🍏🍐🍑
I think people need to stop giving coaches so much pity when they get sacked. First of all, they got their job due to the sacking of the coach prior to them, with the thought that they can do a better job, and so for them to be replaced by another coach that thinks they can do better job is the natural cycle of a limited industry that they knew of, and benefited from, when they walked into it. Secondly, not all coaches get 6 years at the helm, so it can be argued that Dew had his chances, especially after Clarko was available. It's unfortunate, but them's the breaks. Players play in the 2's to push someone out of the best 22 and quality coaches on the sidelines are ready to jump in the moment you fail to generate results, and in an industry that is becoming increasingly competitive, it doesn't wait for no one.
It was handled poorly. They lied to his face and made him think he still had the job. He has a family, children in school - they have to figure out schooling for their children going forward. Should have sacked him earlier or with greater notice so he can organise his personal life and look for new job opportunities. He's also invested so much into that club and dragged them out of the mess they were in.
