He's a real OG. Knows the game. Toure must look back on this and see the lesson schooled in this conversation- and that's what it's like when we talk to elders with more experience! All for the good. His breakdown on the deliberate marketing of Hip Hop (messaging and audience retention) comes from knowing how The Game is played politically, socially and economically

Brother Belafonte, had to school him, because as deep as Tourè is, brother Harry has the Pacific Ocean of wisdom knowledge and intellect, of experience to break down, this man knew Malcolm X, as well MLK..and used his entertainment status to be an activist…and this is why we have to pay attention to the wisdom of our elders, and have commonality in what is being said

As a young Native/Black kid growing up in the 70's I had seen the Wizard of Oz just like every kid did back then. Then I saw Michael & Diana in the Wiz and instantly thought it was a better modern version(W.o.Oz) surpassing original because I could relate more to the current('78)rather than the original('39).
@MsAppassionata
@MsAppassionata 2 года назад
Well, I’m black and I agree with Mr. Belafonte. I prefer the original because it was such an iconic film. It’s got nothing to do with race. I just believe that you cannot improve upon perfection. It’s the reason I prefer the original “Goodbye Mr. Chips” (1939) to the musical remake (1969), for example. I just think that the originals were better films. Now, that has not always been the case but, in general, when the original film is considered to be a classic, there’s no point in doing a remake imo.

From 13:38 on it became a real and Toure contributed to the conversation and hearing from the elders was provocative and critical thinking. "We never followed it through" - Paul Mooney, Struggling with OUR SOULS -Harry Belafonte, Toure is said it's an American thing and so did Harry Belafonte. @36:15 It got very intense near the last few minutes@38:12 when Diahann Carroll spoke of the pain of enduring segregation, but I liked how @39:09 Paul Mooney said: "We can all help each other." Mr. Belafonte speaks some real truth about what happened to Hip-Hop. I've said the same thing myself many times. This is why we need a strong elder/junior bonds in our community. Toure being someone who came of age in that matrix can't see it for what it is. Because his beginning was not that same beginning as Mr. Belafonte's. Thus he doesn't have the same vision, because of his disconnection with his true past(obviously, I'm speaking about the time of this interview but using it as an example of conversations I have today).
