Anyone who has read the novel cant stand the movie and how far from the source material it went. The harsh criticism is deserved... had it bern titled bug hunt on outpost 9, as it was originally titled, itd have been recieved better.
@@g00gleisgayerthanaids56 The book is godawful. It's blatant fascist power fantasy, which is why it was turned into satire when they made the movie. Because the book actively offended the director, a European who lived through serious bombings when living in the Hague during world war 2.
Ya sometimes roger was a fucking tool.......Amazing writer and a great man....but a goddamn prude non the less.....dude lost his mind during blue velvet😂😂
@@kollYeah, but I do respect his opinions. He always articulated his arguments and the reasoning behind them made sense, even if some of his precepts lead him into wrong conclusions. For instance, he was one of the few respected critics who eventually warmed up to Freddie Got Fingered. A movie is like a piece of art, they can't all be measured with the same stick, and Ebert knew it.
That's why I love these guys. They were popular film critics who weren't afraid to share their unpopular opinions. I love the fact that Roger thinks Home Alone 3 is better than Starship Troopers.
Maybe because in this one, unlike the first two, Alex is home alone, yes, but he isn't far away from his family like Kevin was. His brother and sister are just at school, and his parents are at work. It's not as unrealistic in that sense, I guess compared to Kevin being far away from his family in the first two.
Starship Troopers? 😂 come on, siskel was right to like that one,. It astounds me how many movies one or both of these guy’s completely did not “get” when they came out…
Not that i care, but why hasnt there been a HOME ALONE with grown up Kevin, leaving his kids alone. Or a grown up Kevin, stuck in the woods with intruders everywhere?
Same it was the one I owned. I had seen the first one and part of the sequel. I didn't really care about it becoming an "anthology" as I might feel now. Sometimes it's a good direction other times failure like Blair Witch 2
I miss these days when you had two critics who had different opinions going at it. These guys weren't bought and paid for. They had their opinions whether you agreed or not. These are honest takes. Now people just go on review sites and say, "This movie has a 30% therefore its bad and I won't see it!"
Yeah when you take into consideration that Ebert gave a thumbs down to John carpenters the thing, fight club, to kill a mockingbird, gladiator, and Texas chainsaw massacre it makes it even more insane.
Gene has got alot wrong BUT Roger when he Wrong ITS EPIC CAUSE WTF............ he had to began drinking again lol jk...i realize Gene got healthy with that BS smh he looked 5 years younger
It wasn’t enough for Ebert to praise a piece of crap Home Alone Sequel that he had to have a dig at the great (and now classic) Starship Troopers while he was doing it.
Have only seen the first one . This has gotten my curiosity but I will have to do the second one before this one Siskel & Ebert are spatting about . Oh yes of course I liked the first one and I enjoy this exchange here !
How the heck is Every going to trash a masterpiece like Starship Troopers while giving a positive review to Hone Alone 3?!?! And putting down Siskel for liking it to boot!
