Damn this is so well made and so depressing at the same time. I never would have even known about this if it weren’t for this video, keep up the good work
This made me Sad but it's amazing that you are giving this info to the world. The U.S is still too afraid to teach the real history of itself, so I'm grateful that people like you exist. Thank you.
Great video again as always! I love how you can jump from drastically different topics, going from Supermega to the KKK Very informative. Your editing and research are on point. Your voice is very calming, and you are very articulate
Means a lot, friend! Also, have you heard of the battle of liberty place at all? It came up in my research and it was an attempted insurrection by the White League in New Orleans. I’m curious if it’s taught or talked about at all in Louisiana
This is really spectacular work. Definitely not something I'd known about before, and your depth and production value are greatly appreciated in exploring it.
Great video!! One thing to mention…there were black soldiers employed by Holden! They were from Eastern NC and they served as Holden’s bodyguards. They were camped in Raleigh and protected him during the August elections. There were a couple standoffs between the Black militia and other whites. One night in July, the soldiers were fired upon by an uncountable number of unknown men. The soldiers fired back, but none of the unknown men were caught. This was two weeks after they received a message that the KKK was going to get them. A few weeks later, a drunk federal militia soldier (a couple federal militias were sent down to NC, just not enough to do anything about the problem) stumbled towards the black soldier’s camp. A night watch ordered him to stop, but the drunk militiaman never did. So, in an act of defense and because of what happened the weeks prior, the solider shot the federal soldier in the legs. The press was outraged at the fact that there were black soldiers armed “so close to the capital.” The press lambasted Holden and the leaders of the Raleigh militia camps, and the soldier that shot the drunken federal soldier was put on trial, but the case was acquitted because he was only doing his job.
As of right now, I’d only suggest following my Twitter for updates and such. Maybe once this channel gets a little bigger, I’ll make a discord or maybe a Patreon or something, but rn I’m more than thankful for anyone who subs
Honestly I just stumbled on the Wikipedia article and went from there (although some of the info on the Wikipedia page is inaccurate so I found better sources). Thanks for the support, friend!
Thanks for an excellent video 1C2. I'm currently reading Bill Snider's "Light on the Hill." This history of UNC-CH describes the dark days of Chapel Hill following the U.S. Civil War. (Unfortunately, UNC-CH is once again enduring dark days under the current GOP micromanagement.) History doesn't repeat itself but it certainly rhymes.
Lol if our own country knew the truth. Its why topics like CRT are trying to be banned in southern states... so much history they don't want us to know
My GG grandfather served under Kirk during the war. Rev. Capt Stephen Street. Sheriff of Mitchel County NC for 5 years after the war ended. Highest ranked union officer from Mitchel county. Barely known in Mitchell county now. His family fled the area after his untimely death. I often wonder if his loyalty to the north and Kirk had anything to do with him leaving Mitchell county .
Watching this and then looking at your subcount and views, I did a double take. The quality of this video is on par with large channels in the millions of subs.
These people were real life death eaters from Harry Potter. Stealing happiness from good souled individuals to fuel their own rage. Absolutely disgusting.
Great video, thank you! I'm just curious, why do you keep refering to "the conservative party", distancing the Democratic party from its past? I'm not a Republican, I'm far left, it just seems like an odd choice to me.
If I remember correctly, I think my intention was that I didn’t want to confuse anyone who may not know about or understand the party flip. And I guess I also wanted to not give ammunition to those people who love to screech “and that’s why democrats are the real racists!!!!” But in hindsight, those kinds of people were going to do that anyway, and I think it would have been simpler to just add little section about the party flip Glad you enjoyed the video!
Very impressive! I am from alamance and I have read many history books about my town. This is very relevant to us, and you'll be surprise how hard it is to find someone aroung who knows anything about it... This is the first time I see something modern fhat is worth my time. This is so well done, thank you!!!
