One of the best shots in history. He saw a shot most golfers would never consider and few could hope to replicate if they were given all day to do it. And he did it.
This was an amazing shot but he has much much better ones. Like if it doesn't cut enough he's just in the rough on the left and it doesn't look like that pitch is awful so the risk of failure isn't catastrophic if he doesn't pull it off. Like the bunker shot at the 2000 RBC didn't have the banana slice required but that was over water like 215 yards and it's a 2 shot swing if he doesn't flush it.
As a 4 Hcp. golfer. This is an unimaginable shot for me and my skills. The skill. The concentration, the imagination and the fact Tiger most likely had not spent a great deal of time practicing that particular shot..... I mean who does? 145 yards from sand w/ 15 yards of air fade and another 10 or more yards of ground fade to 12 feet from the pen and all with an iffy lie in the bunker. WOW!
Golf is so underrated. Its actually a lot of fun when you're playing it. My gyn class back in high school played golf for 2 weeks and I enjoyed my time a lot!
Indeed. Golf is very difficult though, but that is what makes it so addictive, you always want to improve. It's mostly about being consistent, many people can actually hit amazing shots from time to time, but the question is more about how often you can hit amazing shots and how bad are your misses.
I would have punched it through the trees and accepted my fate in the next bunker up, or in the rough before it... I don't even know how that shot is possible.
As a fan of golf ⛳"...jack Nicklaus...maybe the best champion...BUT" Clearly he is not the Best GOLFER🏌in The world...bad back & All..That ball was hit with The same English you would hit on a pool table"..Then when it hits..it spins back to the hole 70 to 80 ft from were it landed with a open stance...if that shot goes in..i would have slapped my BOSS?...WOW...your fired...Win or Go Home.."**ONE#1**
@@DavidAF311 Did anyone ever really accuse tiger of slow play? Tiger's is pretty much the reason why Tour players are as wealthy as they are. Complaining about Tiger would be the quickest way to being ostracized by other Tour players.
When people who don't play/know Golf that well, they can't fully appreciate just how truly incredible a shot like this is. A shot like this off the Fairway would be seriously impressive, but out of a Bunker is just utterly insane. Even more crazy is the fact that he looked genuinely disappointed afterwards that he didn't Hole-Out.
That is just insane - he has always been wonderful to watch. Watched him play Gary Wolstenhome in the Walker Cup in 1995 and I couldn’t believe some of the shots he was playing. He lost the match but he was certainly special, even then. Less than 12 mths later he led the US Open at Oakland Hill, and 12mths after that he was Masters Champion
Exactly just think if he wouldn't have cheated on his wife or had back surgery's. He would be close to 100 tournament wins and 20 plus majors. Like him or not he's humbled now and i see him breaking sams record and Jack's then he will retire. There will never be another tiger.
Michael Mitchell Tiger cheating on his wife is no body’s business. Most people cheat. Close to 60% of marriages fail. I would never have walked up to Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan asking for relationship advice or investing advice. They are good at their sports, everything else is noise
Trust me on this....see a pro for a swing analysis. Or for a short cut, try putting a tee about 30" behind your ball and adapt your swing imaging you are going to hit two balls in the same stroke. it worked great for me.
Yes. When you are in the sand and you have a lot of club-head speed it will put even more spin on the ball than any shot you can hit from grass. The small grains of sand get between the ball and the face of the club at impact and increase the spin rate on the ball.
The ball will always spin. The angle and grooves of the club impart backspin causing the dimpled ball to fly much farther and straighter than it otherwise would. On a perfectly hit straight shot anyway. But these guys very often play a little side spin onto the ball to hold it against wind etc, a variety of reasons. What you just witnessed here is nothing short of miraculous skill. Huge side spin and back spin. He was aiming almost 90 degrees to the hole when He hit the ball. Off a poor ball lie. Just incredible.
He was until he made a 4 putt from 15 feet😂. Just kidding yeah he is actually looking very good this year. I believe he can pull off a major this year👍
This is just so exciting to have the opportunity to witness tiger more in his career. The man is a legend already and great for the sport and wonderful to have him back. No matter how he does we all love tiger.
I quit playing golf more times than I quit smoking. I did finally quit smoking for good almost 10 years ago. Still more addicted to golf than I ever was to cigarettes.
GOAT.... pretty much says it all.🐐 He may not have caught Jack's 18 majors, or Sam's 82 tour wins, 81 as it stands, but as far as total domination for multiple stages of his LEGENDARY career... he was simply the greatest to ever swing an iron.
No u turn, but he cut the hell out of it. His stance was wide open and knew he was going to cut it in there but wasnt expecting much side and back spin. Its hard to pull off a shot like that because he needs loft on the face, but picking it clean without the sand getting caught between the grooves and the ball is precise.
@S C Tiger is better than Jack. Only thing Jack has on him is more majors, and thats because the competitive field is much tougher in Tiger's era. Jack is #2
That was actually pretty amazing. To get that much spin out of the sand is insane. That finish is what put that insane spin. He cut across it super fast.
@@MinecraftLiquified I have to disagree. You have to make good contact with the ball first of all, and at that distance, it's far easier to pull the ball short or long. Tiger only had one shot to execute the swing, even around trees, and he parked it right beside the flagpole.
This is why I have been a fan since the days I first watched him in the US Amateur Championships. His freakish ability to hole impossible putts and do tricks with the ball again and again. My personal motto is, "You may question, but never doubt!" Yeah, Tiger can use that one too.
What are you talking about? He took a good size "divot" - you can see the decent size sand fly out. It's a 9 iron, you'd expect that. If this was a 4 iron bunker shot, it would be very clean. Bunkers in general you hit very little sand.
I never gave golf a second thought until I body guarded Tiger Woods and then later Vijay Singh in Shanghai at the HSBC tournament back in abut 2005. I never knew golf was so technical and skillful. Really impressive to be standing next to these guys and watch them work. They had every bit of every hole mapped out and plotted out. I thought they just smacked the ball, prior to.
Sometimes it's maddening that he's a clutch and late back 9 player. Like why do you have to be up against the wall for you to get your sh*t together?! Lol
I can only be grateful that I was alive and an avide golfer myself throughout his entire career....I was able to witness his mastery and appreciate it for what it was...
Cutting the ball is easier but getting it to spin sideways towards the hole is just way ridiculous!!. Watched this live on tv and my jaws simply dropped!
To all those who say/comment "why is he in the bunker in the first place" should take the adage that it ain't how bad you hit the ball,it's how well you recover.
Tiger has said that the approach is only good if you make the putt. He missed the putt. I still think this is an outrageously good shot but missing the follow up putt has tainted it a bit
