Well done for sharing everything and not just the highs. There’s no shame in not completing something with so much climbing and heat that you’re not currently used to. Probably my favourite video, not because you’ve struggled but because I totally relate to it. Keep up the good work
Weather looks similar to what had in Scotland this past week 😂 (we have actually been spoilt ☀️). Completed a 4 day 250 mile charity cycle from John O’Groats to Braemar with some stinking climbing (totalling over 4700m). I’d never have dreamt of attempting some of the climbs a matter of year or so ago, having completed it I have to say was feeling a bit emotional (which isn’t like me!).
44 km. with more than 700 meters of climb. That´s still pretty well done! And it´s early in the season so you will probably improve from now. The other cyclists in your group look so skinny compared to you (and me!!), so it´s much harder for you to climb so much as it is for them. So considering that, you did really well. For a relatively heavy cyclist, you are actually a good climber, in my view.
I host the local “old and slow’ of the off road/ gravel group for my local cycling club. We are the out of shape, bad knees, back, and any other health issues part of the club. Frequent check-in stops is our game. Our first aid kit is more extensive than others with several with extensive first aid kits and CPR training. But we are out and doing it to the best that our bodies can handle.
usia saya sama dengan anda, tapi saya kesulitan pakai pedal cleat, dan kesulitan pada tanjakan yang tinggi, berapaah sprocket terbesar dan chain rink terkecil yang anda gunakan , TRIms informasi Nya ,
Don’t sweat it buddy 👍, I for one admire the honesty. It’s easy sometimes to be lulled into a false sense that everything will always be ok. Sometimes you have to listen to what your body tells you and it can be very dangerous not to. Glad you enjoyed your day, thanks for sharing 👍👍👍. Good luck with your next few routes 🚲🚲
Sounds like my level of fitness. You'd be the perfect partner on my rides. Done something similar in Gran Canaria in Februar (39km and 700m) and it usually gets better after a few days. I try to do my pace on climbs because nobody else will carry my excessive weight but me myself and I 😂. So absolutely no worries, you're doing great 👍
I’m a cycle coach, and have been out in Spain for 85 days, just having to head home now. You really need to consider the damage the flight and transfers did to you before this ride. When I arrived here, due to a long illness I could only ride 25km or so (it is hilly though), but last week I rode 102km with 1400m of climbing. Whilst you enjoyed the weather, it was 15°C more than your body is used to, and in temps like that up to 75% of your energy goes to cooling yourself, add in the wind and you’ll realise it was a tough ride, but for more reasons than you think. Finally, it looked really busy there, next year try Denia instead 😂
@@donreed5074 The cycling there is great. Calpe is just down the road, and many world tour teams base themselves there over winter. In fact just outside of Denia there is a hotel that has "altitude rooms", where they pump out some air pressure in the rooms, and the top team members sleep in those rather than being stranded at the top of a mountain in the Canary Islands all month. I don't know what type of cycling you like, but there are hills and mountains aplenty, and more importantly for me, cafes all over the place!
@@donreed5074 I stay in town just south of Denia (called Javea), as I prefer the "town feel", but Denia is a bigger town / small city, so choose what you like.
Hey man, I just came across your channel a few days ago. I’m a heavier guy (110 kg, 173 cm) currently on a bike trip across Europe. I like how you include the full experience of your rides, it’s vulnerable and powerful. Your videos are really great and inspiring. Please keep making them!
Just got in from my pitiful excuse for a ride (15-25 mph wind, 65F, covered 21 miles at 15.5 mph average), and Leonard has posted a video. One of those rare occasions when his weather is better than mine -- Perfect! No worries about the miss, Leonard. There is not one of us who hasn't bitten off more than he could chew at some point. All you can do is bank the experience (and have another coffee).
I'm not really a road cyclist, more MTB. But i'm almost the same age and coming back after a knee injury and have always found Leonard's content a big push to do more. Looking forward to more sunny content!
Excellent episode. The color of the sky, earth, and water made it seem like a master painting. It felt like it was 1/4 the actual length. Your mates standing behind you made it appear that you are 7 feet tall!
Man that place is beautiful!! Good job Leo, it's still early in the season to get yourself up to speed.. the point of it all is to enjoy it and you're enjoying it! Good on you🙂👌
Hi Leonard, don't beat yourself up about this, it's all beautiful exercise! I recently bought an electric road bike, not because I can't get up the hills anymore but just makes them much more enjoyable, Believe me, it's still a good workout! Enjoying your channel 👍
Nice one Leonard as an older rider 70+ I decided to buy an elctric road bike to make the climbs easier and to extend my riding time, and has made all the difference.
Great video as always! That initial col out of Port de Pollenca is a real leg stinger! There are some epic Strava times up it. The descent back down is wicked tho. Well done!
At least you are out there doing it Leonard. I just got back (Wednesday night) from Girona from 3 days riding-first ride we did was Banyolls and Rocacorba, 57 miles and 5552 feet of climbing. Rocacorba itself is 7.8 miles and 2500 feet of climbing between an average of 6-15%! I have never done anything like that before and the short sharp climbs we have around Cambridgeshire were not exactly suitable training……. Enjoy the rest of your trip.
Hi Leonard I had exactly the same yesterday here in Switzerland I took a left instead of a right and ended up on a long and very steep hill then (once Komoot had worked out where I was) I had to turn around and do it all again in reverse! Not proud to admit that I fell off clipping in, cramped up and ended up walking for a bit. I’m always amazed by how many hills you can get on a “flat route” here 😂 Enjoy the sun ☀️
The water is great in the Med, isn't it? It's like that in Greece too. Perhaps having EU laws that forbid pumping raw sewage into the rivers and seas helps? One can only admire (?) the UK for voting to abolish such silly laws, thus enabling the routine and nationwide poisoning of swimmers and surfers alike off its coasts, eh? ;o) On a brighter note, TOP MARKS for getting down and up Sa Calobra in one of your other videos. Well done, that man!
Great vid and effort Leonard, I've a mate who does Triathlon and he's just come back from Mallorca, did a lot of cycling while there, anyway after talking with him and having one too many over the Coronation weekend,I woke up this morning and realized I booked a week in Alcudia in September, thing is I'm not a cyclist, well yet I'm not, look's like I best get the bike dusted down. Gonna be watching all your vids from here in mate.
First spring rides after skiing (and eating a lot) all winter suck SO MUCH 😂 I know it is getting better and better from here but damn, what a torture April rides are.
I know you like to focus on the numbers, but just getting out there with your mates is a win. Gorgeous scenery, and challenging your fitness are a bonus! 😊
Well hope it goes alright with the riding, maybe next time try and do a little more endurance work before going 🫤have a nice time looks very nice and sunny.
❤❤ the positive is that your legs are pedaling....most folks dread at the thought of just pedaling in general....as long as your out there & enjoying yourself!!! 😊 Amazing views too!
Well done Leonard, such a beautiful place to ride. Out of interest how do you fuel yourself on the bike? I’ve often found when I sit down in the days after a ride where I run out of energy that I more than likely either failed to pre fuel well enough or failed to fuel on the bike correctly. (Or worse both!)
I'm just playing catch-up on my dose of Leonard videos. It's funny how you mention how dire the weather is back home, and as I watched this and look out the window, it hasn't improved any in July! 😂 My Strava fitness should normally be in the sixties by now, but it's a mere 18 today. I've not been riding since the end of May. First I was chilling on holiday in Turkey at start of June, so no bike riding. Then my Mrs had a stroke while we were away. So no more cycling until she recovers properly. Keep up the vlogs, I'm enjoying the process of catching up. And it could be worse, I'm *really* behind on Katie Kookaburra's vlogs! 😂
Here lad I feel your pain I’m a big rider and it just takes that bit more out of us it’s not that your unfit it’s just the extra weight is just a killer
Inspiring and thanks for such a candid view. I was taken to Pollencia as a teenager (now in mid-50's). I'd love to try this. May I ask, did you take your own bike, if so, how did you manage the transfers and select where to stay? Also, did you find there were too many cyclists? Best regards, James.
I quite fancy taking my bike to majorca. The weather has been rubbish for cycling. An endless winter😢. What's the condition of the roads out there? Better then the UK? Last week I decided to ride my bike to work. It started raining again and the wind was horrible again. And when I had to dodge a pothole and the wind took my wheel I thought I'm getting in my car and driving to spain/Italy. Haha. Good riding mate 👍
Mallorca is definitely on my bucket list. It's just a long way from Australia! Kudos for deciding you had had enough for the day. "Man's gotta know his limitations" - Dirty Harry (Magnum Force)
My days the weather looks amazing skies so clear. Loving the music in the video. Will you be using your insta360 camera to a 360 video during one of your bike rides that would be soo cool 😎
At least you can enjoy the sunshine & warmth and just ride within your limits. So envious- it has been raining for weeks in the uk and still cold. I’m watching your vid recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon dreaming of the time I can get out and ride again..
Well done Leonard…never easy going from 7 to 21 degrees never mind the route and how hilly. You may want to get rid of that 36 inch television on your handlebars though 😂😂😂
Just got back from Mallorca last week. I did this very ride (has to be done really). Seems strange seeing the same raods in somebody else's video. We did 3 rides in total, Coll De Sa Batala, Sa Calobra and Cap De Formentor. Sa Calobra was the toughest of the lot. I enjoyed the ride to the lighthouse more I think, very picturesque. Great video!
Inspirational! Kudos to you for making that climb. Appreciate you sharing the video. This ride is on my to do list having done it virtually many times on Rouvy. Hoping to make it there in person in the spring of 2024.
I watch all your videos, and suspected that you might be a little under-cooked for your foreign trips. That said, its a long summer and at least you've got started properly now. p.s. Nice weather man! I am stuck here in the north of England! lol
Don’t be disappointed- it’s a tough ride out and back, especially in the wind! Try a circular route out to sa pobla, campenet, selva, caimari, up the Col da sa batalla (good climb with switch backs), then down the Col de feminia 👍😃
Great vid, I just got back from Majorca yesterday had a fab time. If you want something a little easier why not head over to Campanet. I found I clocked up a few miles on relatively flat roads and once I got to the square in Campanet I was greeted by espresso and apple cake. Have a great time.
I enjoy watching your channel Leonard, some great videos on here Mallorca looks amazing. Somewhere where I’d like to visit on the bike. The end of the day, we all wear Lycra we all ride. The most important thing is you enjoyed the ride. As I’ve said before to others, there’s no enjoyment in cycling when you’re completely hammering yourself out around the lanes in my eyes. Don’t get me wrong I give myself some poke but I back off when it’s too much as I find it destroys the enjoyment element. It’s about pace, enjoyment and aiming for those targets over time. Build up gradually. There’s always someone slower/ faster than you out there. For instance I’m better at climbs due to being a very slim build. Yet someone more stocky would leave me standing on the flats. We’ve all got our advantages/ disadvantages.
Currently in Bangkok on a short trip. 37C and no hills. Bring electrolyte but otherwise much better than riding in England where it's cold and it's never flat
The climbs you do are more steep - in general - than what I do here in DFW/US every other day. On top of that, your climbs are much longer! But 10 to 12%? Man, those are absolutely brutal for long climbs. I salute you good sir. Have a blessed day!
Wonderful. A surprise bonus feature! Normally you are my Saturday morning breakfast viewing. Now Sunday too. Giving me motivation for my long climb up to Gourdon on Cote d'Azur in an hour with with a large crazy triathlon training group. I will be dropped but agreed to meet at the lovely cafe at the village summit.
Hi Leonard, excellent video, the weather looks mind blowing compared to the disaster we have here! I now live in Northern Ireland having moved from sunny Sussex, so the weather can be even more depressing here, made worse being a 'fair weather" cyclist! Could I ask what bike bag or case do you use o your travels please? Another great video I have to say! Hope you're totally recharged after your break! Take care. 😁😁😁
I was there last week too. And I was the lad at the back most of the time also. Well done and great footage. Don’t forget too that the heat has a massive effect as we are not used to it. I always carry 2 bottles on my bike. One with energy drink. The other plain water, most of which gets poured on my head and neck to cool me down. It works for me. Give it a try next time in the heat.
Leonard, you are doing climbs that other people are just talking about lying at the beach. Cycling is about actually cycling - and this you do! You are an idol for many. We love your honest content! You tell how it is and how you feel.
Keep pedalling Leonard. You did the right thing and listened to your body. Tomorrow is another day and you are there for a good time - enjoy it. It’s going to be be cold here for the next few days so I catching up on some bike maintenance so I’m ready for better weather. Wish I was in cycling in Majorca ☀️🚴🙃
@@jollygoodvelo Well, I haven't gone riding today. I have my son until 6pm eastern (-4gmt). Oh I know, UK verses USA, we rent non human devices. We hire only the human kind.
sometimes you have to stop and take in the scenery. I'm going through the same issues, riding with other bikers of higher level of fitness. I do have to know my limitations, but it helps push me to get better when I ride with them.
Well done Leonard and don't worry, it was meant to happen. If you'd been fit enough to ride straight back to the villa, you'd never have enjoyed that beautiful spot by the sea while you recovered 😎 It wasn't a competition, you were on holiday, so I hope you enjoyed the trip as much as I enjoyed that reminder of what the sun and blue skies look like! 😩
Just discovered your channel: really enjoying the videos and the scenery around Alcudia. Can I ask what size Godfrey clothing you wear? Are the Altura sizes the same? I'm a bigger guy and really struggle finding stuff that fits. Thanks.
