Jay and rest of the riders in the Basque crash --Bravo! They are so brave and they and their families are so committed to the sport. We need more safety protection for sure.

Adam’s additional point is … profound. It takes money, it takes loved ones, and it takes a team devoted to you. “It” is recovery from trauma. Road racing has brought trauma and recovery from trauma to the public’s eye. I recommend the public scan itself for trauma and provide those who have been traumatically damaged similar treatment.

They should invest much more in safety and protection of riders just as they do in F1

There's way less money and the races move onto open roads every stage. Keep in mind, they're not racing a simple, 5k lap over and over. It's a lot easier to make a course safe for enclosed cars over 5k vs people on bikes over 200km

Dumbest comment ever. Do you even ride bikes, bro?

@@veganpotterthevegan Their clothes are like bading suits. With the slightest fall They have abrasions at always the same spots. Shoulder, hips, knee. Why can’t their be some light protection obliged for every rider. The cycling world is too conservative. Also the roadside protections and signings used in the belgian races should be adopted in every UCI race. There should be a safety cell that investigates every accident and learn from it. There is a clear lack of a safety policy in the UCI.

@dirk2518 because people don't wanna fry in the sun. Also, abrasion isn't a big deal. Few really care about that when they crash thanks to modern wound dressing. Broken bones are a different story though and nobody is going to want to wear padding on their bodies

As junior racer back in the 1970s who has experienced a number of crashes….my heart foes out to all of these racers. Safer courses (marking out hazards, avoiding crazy turns before final sprints, better training for cars and motorcycle drivers in race support, etc, etc. ). Too much road furniture these days as well. Plus faster speeds with better tech, training and nutrition make racing more dangerous than prior decades

Lest we not forget this is their JOB... riding a bike for money... and the teams are all basically advertisements for some big corporation or other. The whole sport is about money... not "glory" or something lofty or noble. Same as being a television presenter... or plumber... or teacher... etc. Nothing more. Nothing less.
