It was more the marketing behind it and the people who wore the brand. A lot of skate/urban brands slap their logos on all kinds of shit. The hypebeast era and tumblr helped propel them up. That and them going down the exclusive/collectable route and limited all their shit and marking prices up.
Japan also elevated Supreme, once they went to Japan it was over for anyone in competition from the US, Tumblr and Hypbeast ERA just turned the world upside down and Supreme became an international powerhouse. I have a streetwear magazine where u can buy clothes from, made in the 90s prior to Japan. The supreme shirts are only $18-$30 max.

I don't have the capital to produce a whole catalog a year in advance but I do at least 3 months (a whole season) in advance.

I remember going to this post office in the cut and EVERY single time Tulones packages were stacked to the ceiling. I finally asked the postal worker what is this and he was like it’s a clothing brand and they are here everyday 😳😳 and ever since then I’ve seen their brand everywhere.

These brothers are phenomenal! They really understand economics of community. They got a standard they stick too. I mean to hand right labels just blows my mind. This is an example of reaping the harvest. They just planted the seed and waited for the growth. Sharing this episode with my kids.

The more I listen to this episode the more frustrating it is. Your talking about branding, high quality etc but everything your doing is the exact opposite - your a fast fashion merch producer. Totally nothing wrong with that it clearly is working for you but it’s important the listeners understand the difference. Tech packs, moulds, breakeven points etc standard stuff for all manufacturing doesn’t make anyone unique. We never sell out” - plenty of stuff sold out on your website currently. Rushing to get product available to the consumer again is fast fashion 101. The true branding approach would not consider the demand of the consumer they care first and foremost about consistency of the brand story through the garment, the content making sure it all fits right . There’s no right or wrong both different effective approaches to the fashion game. Just a few statements that give the wrong impression. “Your 2months ahead” any established brand works 6months ahead. Sampling and quality control can take 3 months alone before production and shipping. And given then amount of product you have it would take you guys way longer. Don’t matter who you are if your not literally manufacturing under your own roof, every brand goes through this. Of course unless your all about quick turn around which again is the definition of fast fashion merchandisers. Please believe if the numbers are correct nothing but mad respect for what you’ve achieved in such a short time but it’s not branding. Aime Leon Dore, Kith, Cole Buxton even the old classics Gucci, Prada etc that’s a lesson in branding and consistency of message and quality.

I really enjoyed this interview. As someone who designs and sew my own swimwear I can surely see where they are coming from. It is important to know all the details of your product. Some people think it’s about just going to a manufacturer and think they will get what they want. Nah, for my swimwear I needed to know the gsm of the fabric, what type of stretch the fabric has( stretch retention) is the fabric chlorine and salt water resistant, what type on elastic. For sewing what type of thread, needles, what is the best stitch and which stitch takes less thread. The list goes on. Everything is technical. One thing I’ve learnt here was break even for each item. Here in the Caribbean where I’m from, when I did my business plan. I was taught breakeven but not on each item. This is something I will look into. One day I will have a team because, right now I’m the one doing every single thing and it’s not easy as simple as a swimsuit looks. Found your RU-vid on Saturday and this was the first video I saw. I will surely be listening to your other videos.

Yo Dave or Dave’s team… idk who’s editing these videos but you’re being lazy when it’s quite simple they’re giving you visual directions within their dialogue. Make the proper cuts. He mentioned the sweat pants and cuff that was a shot to be displayed. Frame the person when they’re speaking show them. Insert 70 transparency few seconds.. “watermarked” links while also putting in in the description details. Etc etc constructive criticism no hate love the podcast. Oh hire a sound guy sometimes the audio sounds weird for those that listen out of high quality sound devices.
