I did this (using screws instead of nails) and the lumber alone cost $100. Still affordable compared to buying the island itself, but just for anyone looking to build this today... it’s not $20!

This is so easy n I can even make a coffee table and rustic end tables like this with shorter legs n even a smaller table and make bar chairs with thick seats from an old bed mattress that has very thick sift foam in it. Thank you so easy I gave a set of drills and a picket jig. This us what I'll do and I can make it by myself. I lost all my furniture. You just made my day. I'm starting over and I don't have alot so I gotta do budget friendly fast n easy builds. I can use this in NY small living room fur a small table to sit at by the window when mom or the kids come over for coffee. I can build an island to separate the kitchen n make all 3 rustic . I love this You just made me so happy I was feeling so bad. 😊 u rock

I just finished making this table and love it! I used untreated red pine 4x4s for the legs instead. I also used screws instead of nails in case I needed to take off the legs for some reason in the future. It turned out really beautiful. Definitely not $20 tho - more like 60-70. Thanks for the fun project!

I love this - I can easily modify this to be a DIY outdoor dining table (it’s just need to be longer) but looks wise and color wise it’s essentially the design I need and most importantly it’s simplistic. Love this.

Thanks for the video! I was shocked to see the piece put together without screws and wood glue and more shocked at the pressure treated 4x4's. But it's a great piece for me to make a couple for my craft room and put them on wheels. Along with an additional shelf, I can adjust the build with regular 4x4's and add the glue and screws. Thanks for the ideas!

great job im doing this project however the 4x4 were pressure treated for sure (green tint) so i will be gluing (2) 2x4's together which is cheaper than a 4x4 anyways.

Thanks, I did this project and wanted to have a high table for my garage. Total cost was about $85. I also added in 4 wheels on the legs which did cost me an additional 20 bucks. While attached the legs to the frame, i figured that 2.5" screws worked better

First and foremost, I want to let you know that I love your videos, particularly with the breakdown of what materials are needed. I have made both the headboard and this island. Although this states it is $20 in materials, I paid $60 at my local lumber store. I would highly suggest using screws for the entire project, not nails (especially for the 4x4 legs). I haven't stained it yet as the only 4x4's available to me were "treated", so they will have to dry before I can sand and stain. I love the tutorials and the projects you come up with. Simple and easy to follow for "beginners" working with wood. Obviously professional woodworkers would cringe about nails being used.I would suggest not including a "cost" with your projects because unless you're getting the lumber for free, the prices vary all over the US and outside and will typically cost the average person double (if not more) to make these items.Thanks again!
@kiaya007
@kiaya007 8 лет назад
is clear to see that the two of you have similar style of building. nice to see the cohesion. is a great looking table. the only thing for me, like so many others, is those legs. seal them real good and i'd add a bit more support in the connection to the top. nails wiggle loose over time so maybe a few screws. loved the video so keep them coming. thanks :D

I use 2 inch trim head fasteners. You can use wood filler to hide the holes and they wont split the wood. They make the frame allot stronger then finishing nails

Thanks so much for this. I built it pub table height and am looking for appropriate-sized stools. Used sturdy deck screws too rather than nails. Stained it "Sedona Red" and placed it against a wall painted "Hey Honey," with three paintings of cardinals above it. The range of reds and honey-colored wall look so great together and the table is a great height where I can stand and eat or pull up a stool and work/eat/drink a beer with bros. Not $50, by any means, but not a bank-buster either.

I am going to try this. My husband said it's not a good idea because I don't normally build things. I can however, follow directions and can run a saw, so I'm going to attempt it. Except I think I'll use screws because I'm afraid of denting the wood with my clumsy hammering. Wish me luck!

I came across your channel, I was so impressed with this video, and I recently moved. I bought a kitchen table/chairs, but the table is too big for my place, I couldn't get it through the front door. When I saw this video, and I watched it about 5 times ( I said to myself, l can do it) yesterday on my way home I stopped at Home Depot , they have assortment of wood marked down to 70% , since I have a smaller kitchen my project will be a little smaller by 2 feet. I got all the wood for $20 ( they will cut the wood for free) nails were $3ish, they have nails with wood glue on the end. I will take a before/after picture. I have to go back and pickup stain stuff to painted it or I might use chalk paint, I have some left over from another project, I also have x-fine sandpaper.

I agree with others saying those are pressure treated 4x4's. don't use those for a table because they warp and shrink. they're fine outdoors for deck or lawn furniture but inside it'll be weird. untreated are more expensive but well worth the price difference for indoor furniture.
@JamesSmith-sx6gb

@ninjitsu1986
@ninjitsu1986 8 лет назад
The color of the wood, pressure treated lumber has a green color to it. Untreated pine will look more like the boards used on the top and sides.
@williamjackson5942
@williamjackson5942 8 лет назад
The color is a dead give away, either way just the 4x4's will be almost the twenty dollars. It would be cheaper to use 2x4 stud glue ups instead.

Thanks for the video. This can actually cost $20 given you have the basic supplies on hand or go to Restore if you have one in the video. Lumber can be free or cheap. I dumpster dive at Home Depot and construction sites, or my husband would bring home “damaged” goods from a company he works at that would be thrown out (i.e. wood cut slightly too short)

if you have all the tools and stain, you can get the wood for this for 50.00 I just priced it at home depot, that's for a 31 inch high , 5 ft long, 30 inch deep, you can add locking casters for another 11.00 , so roughly $ 60.00 build, not to bad
