Thought it was gonna be stiff and 'programmed' but golly it's just too adorable! Hope they come out with customization: felted ears, different body patterns, eye colors, a leash, maybe even clothes and booties. And in the future... An even smaller size. 😊

You can buy different coloured ears and tail for it and you can change the eye colours in an app for it. You can use a real dog collar and leash for it, as well. You can buy collars and outfits for them, they're just a bit expensive.

Awesome idea. However, I am a little conflicted about having my old dog back (died 3 years ago of old age). I do love the idea of having an Aibo dog around because it won't be humping everybody's leg all the time. The Aibo will also be much cheaper in the long run (no vet bills, no dog food to buy, no shot record crap to worry about, no fleas or ticks to be concerned about).

I guess pet owners (I don't own any pets) would be quick to tell you that the emotional connection with this dealie would be a one-way street. Animals have real emotions and can give love back, whereas this gizmo obviously can't, since it's just programmed reactions. But yeah, room for both. Things like this, and the Anki Vector/Cozmo make me wonder about how in the distant future we'll treat emotions, if we'll think of them as 'real' or not - that part sort of irks me a little.

I didn't know Sony launched a new AIBO dog. I have two of the original dogs 1999 ERS-110 (paid nearly $5K each) and one 2006 ERS-7M3 (paid $3K). Back in the day these were a hit at the office, used to bring them into work and turn them loose.

This robot dog can and it's less maintenance for the workers. The robot charges itself and everything. I just think it's a cool idea to explore with senior homes that's all

I love how Dedicated Sony is to their tech. They took the time to make the calibration routine look like how a real dog would wake up from a nap like. Their hardware may be expensive, but their software at least matches the quality of the hardware. Cant say I am going to run out and buy one, but you can at least see if you had the money it would be worth most of it.
