I saw this episode back when I was in college in the 1980s in a Radio-TV elective class. I've read that this episode was originally aired on CBS Mar. 25, 1958.
I think you may be correct. Right age, right place, right profession, right name…..acted mad infront of psychiatrists but they weren’t having it, declared fit for trial and as you say, locked up. Would be nearly 90 now if still alive
Do some more research. While it probably is the same Adelita Quejado Green, atty from Miami...who was disbarred as you say...but actually, she was tried & convicted twice, and both times the convictions were reversed (Fl Supreme Ct 1981 & Fl Appellate Ct, 1983) and the case remanded back to the lower court for new trials. But, nothing can be found to indicate that she was tried & convicted a third time. Whether or not she was jailed while the appeals were pending is also not shown in the public records (...unless available in FL prison records). Potentially, as often happens, the lower court dropped the prosecution, to save the state money, if they felt they could not get a 3rd conviction...or, one that would "stick".
Can't find out whether Virgil went for the $64K...but, can't blame him if he "took the money & ran", since $32K in 1958 dollars is over $340,000 value in 2023
Was this episode part of the 1950s quiz show scandal where the contestants were given the answers beforehand? The $64000 question was cancelled in November 1958 because of it.
@@witherblaze Answers were given. There's a great movie from the 1990s called 'Quiz Show' with Ralph Fiennes and Rob Morrow which covers the most famous incident. Here's the wiki on the whole thing. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1950s_quiz_show_scandals
They did give harder questions to unlikable contestants. But that did not work all the time. Dr. Joyce Brothers was considered an unlikable contestants but she answered the harder questions and won $64,000.
@@normanmccollum6082 Well, this was actually '58, not'55...but, $64K from then would still be a fortune today. Not sure if Virgil even has the opportunity to go for the final prize, if another commenter is right & this was shortly before the game show was cancelled for giving some contestants the answers in advance.
