Thank you so much for sharing this light in so much darkness (sad stories). I've seen similar situations that had turned into irreversible mistakes due to the lack of support (Interpreters) to the patients from the HOSPITALS 😔

What a terrible painful story. Yesss please intoxicado es food poisoned.... :( It is still a "common practice" to use anyone to interpret, and this denies the rights of the patients. One "anecdote". I used to volunteer as an interpreter for a clinic for low income people - this is how I started my profession lol-, So, while i was helping one patient to fill out a form I overheard this dialogue/interpretation made by a teen age Colombian boy, acting as an interpreter for a Brazilian woman. She said "me duele la vagina". The young man said to the Dr: "she says she has pain in her belly". The woman said, nooo belly noo, vayina. The young me said "ahh she says her pain is in her bladder". The woman said? bladder? Que es eso bladder? nooo pain here, here, la vagina and she pointed out her .. you know... I ran to help but already the situation was too weird and too funny...

Is it common practice (in the U.S.) to pay medical interpreters a percentage of what they would have been paid if they arrive to the hospital and are no longer requested to interpret?

Hi, Isaias 👋 Great question! I can’t speak for everyone but in my case I charge the full fee if the assignment is canceled in less than 24 hours.

Hola Jordano! Muchas gracias! Pues aunque nunca estudié formalmente inglés, yo diría que desde pequeña aprendí porque viajé un par de veranos a EEUU y aprendí algo con los niños en la calle y luego en mi adolescencia, con canciones y con la televisión seguí aprendiendo.
