This card actually has a huge market. Used small form factor office machines are cheap and plentiful. I just picked up a Core i7-2600 machine with 8GB of RAM and a 1TB HD for $190. If I was more patient I could have found one for $150 or less. The problem is the integrated graphics are awful, and it has a tiny 240W power supply. This card is the perfect upgrade for these super cheap office machines, and you end up with a great productivity computer for less than $300 that can also do some light gaming. In my case I need something to do light 3D CAD work, and this card in an older i7 machine was the least expensive way to get a computer that does what I need.

This GT 1030 is a great bump up in my 'blah blah' from the GT 730 it replaced. Nuff said since most folks like me have to limit the upgrade in cards to the power limitation for many reasons unable to upgrade such as its an office PC or its case size.

It's true, I bought a second hand dell sff with i5 processor, then bought 1 TB hard drive and 16GB of memory, GT 1030 ddr5, all for £200. It plays every game I have installed, even battlefield 5, you just need to change the settings to medium. My Oculus rift even works fine with it as well.

As you said, those little NX form PCs are super cheap. I just picked one up for $100. Tossing a GT1030 in it makes for a really good budget PC. Even today, the 1030 is probably the best low profile, half height video card available.

Exactly what I did, I picked up a $70 HP small for factor from a pawn shop, got some extra DDR3 Ram from a work friend for $20 and this card for like $130CAD. Ended up in the end with a 3.1Ghz Core i5, 16GB DDR3 Ram and this GT 1030 and it plays all my computer games that I like to pop into now and again and it works great for my photo editing.

No. The PS4 has about 3.5 VRAM, however only about 2-2.5 for GAMES.

For system memory I believe it has 8GB, as Computexpert said, it has 5GB GDDR5 entirely for games. But we're not talking about system memory, hun. :) We're talking about the GPU's memory, I messed up, it actually has 2 GB of VRAM, as it's thought to be an HD 7870.

Lolzer Holzer I was talking about the gpu Shared system Memory, it's the gpu memory that is available for desktop activity, now the dedicated gpu memory is the one that is available especially for games.

Some motherboards do not have the 75 watt limit some cards demand some motherboards only have 35 watts on the pcie lane that is where this card fits in perfect to upgrade those old computers.

Yeppers...couldn't upgrade the PSU so the card had to be low wattage. Say, knowing that I stopped using the HD replaced by a SSD, does the PSU have more room so that I can use even a higher wattage card...such as a 1050? I have just replace the original GT 730 with a GT 1030 last month....loved to have gone further but was a bit scared to push the PSU.

It's not just about tight budgets. Sometimes you want to spruce up an old rig just for your old games. That's the niche for such cards. And I am looking at two older rigs I built many years ago right now so thank's for looking into cards like these for us! Sub'ed of course.

Excellent review .... Thanks very much.... Many people don't understand the engineering associated with electronics, especially computers. I was looking for a graphics setup for a low profile HP box which could operate under 250 watts Thanks for the point related to video memory > 2gb ... it caused me to rethink my options. I just tossed one of these into a sff HP rp5800 with an i3 2120 that i picked up at a salvage yard for $5...after clearing the dust and throwing in this card, this system runs perfectly. It's a nice little budget card for having fun with a tiny low-ball gaming machine. Working on installing an RX550 into an HP 4000 Pro now, another $5 purchase from the same junk yard....this thing has a Q6600 in it!

I think it is a great update card for older machines that don’t really need all the extra ram as the motherboard and cpu are way outdated, brought my Dell 480 back to life

Great video and you explained very well the information I was trying to find out. I’ve been thinking of playing Warcraft again after quite a few years. I bought an ultra budget 710 card and while it plays decently, battlegrounds can sometimes lag when people are stacking up spells and abilities on screen. WoW has never been an ultra-card needing game so for my needs, I think it’ll work nice. Thanks again for the details!

I have Dell Optiplex slim one, it has 250w power supply. I paired i5 3470 with gt 1030. It's great. For 250 $ you can get great pc that plays every game in 720p or 1080p on lower settings.

I'm planning on doing the same thing but with the Optiplex 780 SFF which has a 235W power supply. I'm thinking of putting in a 300W PSU but am curious whether the 235W PSU will be enough. Is the 300W overkill?

Oz, great video. The "big boys" can't be arsed to cover a "low end" card like this but someone needed to and you did a great job AND included OC which others have failed to do. But, that Gigabyte card is supposed to be able to adjust the power target - did you check GB website where it says their Aorus util "allows you to tune the clock speeds, voltage, fan performance, and power target in real-time according to your own gaming requirement.". The 10% boost you got in GTA is great but I'd like a LITTLE more but cannot physically fit the faster GTX1050s in my system. Maybe try the GB util and let us know if it does anything?

Matt Heitmann Well, they will of course perform slightly better than on 1080p. Id personally get a 4gb RX 460 or RX 560, as if he wants to upgrade his screen, a Freesync screen will cost him less.

Some people really can't afford anything else! As a side note,do you think a used 960 or 780 would be better? Don't expect benchmarks for that, just curious

Its a good card for a small form factor pc. I put this in my lonovo socket 775 with a psu of only 280 watts and it works great for that. The low power usage is good for reasons like this.

not just for budget users, also people that only have a small form factor computer that can only accept a 1 spot video card. Check the other low profile 10 series cards, most are dual slot.

indeed, not much options if you have limited space and want to keep use the other slots for things, i use the gt1030 in my workstation/server build to limit the poweruse and leave slots open for controllers and networking. Its not about the money but resources need for other stuff. The low profile is ideal in a serverchassis so that airflow gos right overt the card.

nice video, BTW if you can put integrated graphics for comparison it would be nice i would even say compare them all when ryzen APUs will come out. of course those kind of cards are way from my personal use but sometimes i recommend people about PC build for their budget/uses so more info will make my recommendations better, cheers.

Great review. Thanks. How is the noise level when idle? I had to return Asus GT1030-2G-BRK because of high fan noise even when idle. I spent too much to make my computer is super-silent and I need a single slot super-silent GT 1030 for it.

pentium g4500, gt 1030, 8gb ram and 450W evga bronze psu. works like a charm. and there is upgrade path for better parts too if there is need for that. and i almost forgot to say. pentium g4500 is small bottleneck in my system. only a small but cheap i3 or good pentium with HT is perfect for gt 1030

I don't think you guys understand what the GT line up is for. It's for small form factor PCs. I can't fit any GTX cards in my desktop which is why a card like this is good for me.

iAmit Exactly. I have a Optiplex 755 DT and it can't fit a full sized graphics card. RX and GTX are out of the question, the GTX Low profile cards are 120€+.

Roodni Capture cards that are good are expensive, probably around 3-4x the cost of this GPU. I just recorded my screen with my camera when I tested it, especially since only the GTX cards support GeForce Share for game capture. this one being a GT card means no game capture with built in software/drivers :(

I wish I listened to you, I got this 1030 card to replace my ATI 5850 and found that it is a bit less powerful than the 7 year old ATI......darn it.....I suppose I will save on electricity as the 1030 uses less power....

Well for me, I play MechWarrior online and can play it on medium settings with the 5850 and get 50-60fps. With the 1030, I have to drop to low settings to get 50-60fps. I should have watched this video before buying the 1030.

PROCESSOR302 I think you might have a bottleneck in your system from the GPU. It happens when the GPU is too powerful for the CPU to handle, so it cannot utilize the GPU’s full potential due to the CPU’s limitations. Try upgrading your CPU

exactly. I love super small systems and APUs are the absolute best way to build one, but they lack in power...hope this changes with 4\8 CPU + 700+ Vega cores in Raven Ridge..if AMD delivers...if it will really be RX 460 performance....just wow

and can be crossfire hybrid with 460/560/550 out of the box. i keep wondering why 16x pcie downgraded to 8x when apu is installed and at the same time 460/560/550 cards insist on 8x. And if crossfire hybrid performance atleast reach 570 level, that alone is a win.

In your opnion, would this card work better than the onboard GPU 630i in my core i5 8400... while playing Flight Sim X (2006)? The 630i does pretty well, but frame rate is around 20-22. In a fight sim I am not looking for 60fps, 30+fps would be great. FSX is the only "game" I play. Thanks for your input.

Great for a starting point for builds in early 2018 with inflated prices. I’m planning on buying this card with my first build then upgrading when the GPU prices drop later this year around late summer to fall, hopefully sooner.

Thanks for the video. I am primarily a console gamer but I just got this card for my small form factor living room media PC and it turned it into a pretty decent gaming PC. The low power draw of this card was a must because I can't change the custom power supply. I have an Intel i5 CPU and 8 GB of RAM. I just bought another 8 GB of RAM cheap off of e-bay. I hope the RAM actually works and hopefully I will see some improvement. The build already works well with indie games but I was actually surprised I could run Shadow of Mordor and Forza 6 Apex. Subscribed.

Quality stuff there, I like your videos. My old HD4870 just died, so this card is perfect for me and my tight budget. I only play pre-2010 games, but at least I can finally play GTA V from the new ones.

I put this card through Ghost Recon Wildlands as well as BF1. It can actually float right around 60fps in BF1 on the low preset, 30fps on Doom in low, and even around 30+ on PUBG. Was fun playing with it. good video! Also want to add that people using secondhand or budget SFF computers are also one of the groups this is aimed at. i had this tested in a Dell optiplex 9020 SFF. perfect match.

Quick Question: Would this graphics card be good for playing low-end games like minecraft? I'd assume that since this had almost 60fps on overwatch at 1080p with ultra settings it would have more frames on low-end games. Just wondering since I'm building a budget PC for less heavy games and I'm still deciding on what I want the graphics card to be.
