Today we’re joined by Dr. Brad Wilcox, professor of sociology at the University of Virginia and senior fellow at the Institute for Family Studies, to discuss the importance of family structure in our lives and in society. Rates of idleness and incarceration are significantly higher among young men who didn’t grow up with a father in the home versus those who did. We discuss the data that supports this in Dr. Wilcox’s study “Life Without Father": Less College, Less Work, and More Prison for Young Men Growing Up Without Their Biological Father, which provides evidence that present fathers in the home statistically prepare boys for safer childhoods and more successful adulthoods. Then, we discuss the progressive movement’s push to replace family with the state and the hypocrisy of progressive policymakers regarding their family policy agendas.

Nobody pays mind to the destruction of the nuclear family when the destruction of the extended family was generations ago⸮ What's the difference between second cousins thrice removed and third cousins twice removed? Few people know anymore. Meanwhile in Africa, the AIDS fraud, actually poison spread through mass injection and nothing to do with monkeys, left grandparents rearing grandchildren until that generation passed away, and the task was left to siblings wherever they could be found⸮

Oh my! Family is so important! I was as a 6 month old put in a foster family, and was then adopted as a 1 year old to adoptive parents who divorced when I was 14. I wish I had a stable family! Children need it! They deserve it! Family (with a mother and a father) should be the norm, cause anything else would be crazy!

As a child of divorce, I take comfort from my Heavenly Father now, but the impacts of growing up in an abusive single family home will be with me for the rest of my life. How can anyone deny the difference between a stable home life and chaos? Maybe these people saying there's no difference, had good childhoods and think they know what's best. They're not running around in the ghetto raising themselves but they want everyone else to so they can maintain their power. So sad. Do not believe the lie!

He had great information, but then totally crumbled in the end when it came to policy recommendations. He ignored completely the devastation done to kids since no-fault divorce statutes were passed ~50 years ago, which triggered a divorce boom around 1970-71, and how since that time we see about 85% of divorces filed by the wife. No-fault divorce created mother-favoring family courts and these statutes eliminated the need to show wrongdoing by a spouse--adultery, abandonment, physical abuse, etc--and instead created a dynamic whereby women could on their mere whim opt out of the marriage and expect primary custody of the children (thereby rendering fathers mere every other weekend "visitors" instead of dads) the house and its contents and a guaranteed monthly income to support her lifestyle and that of her new man/men extracted from the father. Further, parental alienation and outright disregard of a dad's visitation were met with no real penalty, so the children post-divorce are effectively the mere property of their mother. Kids who do not live with their dads are 40 TIMES more likely to suffer abuse and the statistically most dangerous man in a child's life by far is their mother's new husband or BF. Kids, as the mother's property, are forced to endure these men, whose mere presence they nearly always resent. Generally divorced mothers will rationalize away the cruelty of their selfish acts in breaking up their families and forcing new men into their kids' lives, but the unwillingness of women to accept responsibility is nothing new and does not mean our child-harming, woman-favoring policies are sound. Add to all of this horror show the fact that under a 1975 federal statute, Title IV-D of the Social Security Act, the states receive federal matching dollars for child support collected, so under the child support schedules of most states the more time a child is kept away from their dad in a given month the higher the support award--the cap on that is reflected in the current, every-other-weekend alternating weekday "standard custody". So, the states literally PROFIT via federal matching dollars from the blood, misery and suffering of little children, they MAKE MONEY by these kids being kept from their own dads. Sadly, even most Republican governors and state legislatures are loathe to jeopardize that flow of sweet, sweet federal money by changing no-fault statutes or going with Equal Parenting reforms like a 50/50 physical custody default, which would greatly benefit the children, but would cause the states to forgo billions in federal blood money. Wilcox's government school marriage education programs are a joke and while his recommendation to end the marriage penalty in welfare has merit and would benefit the lower economic class kids he turned a blind eye to that which is most obvious and would do the greater good for the vast majority of kids, particularly those in the middle class, which he and so many supposed conservatives are content to ignore and allow to suffer. His cowardice in even acknowledging the role no-fault divorce, associated mother-favoring family courts and Social Security IV-D play in all of this horror for America's children was disappointing, but surely not surprising.

Many things are undermining the family. Young mothers are to be encouraged and taught their roles as wives and mothers by older women in the church after the biblical model put forth in Titus 2:3-5. Aged women are commanded to teach the younger women with respect to loving their husbands and children. Scripturally and physically, women are gifted and called to be helpers to their husbands and nurturers of their children (ref. Genesis 2:18, 21-24, Titus 2:4, 1 Timothy 5:14, and others). Their bodies are equipped to carry, bear, and nurse children; their temperaments and talents are suited to child rearing, homemaking, and all of interesting and varied tasks that accompany them (Proverbs 31 and others). A mother’s natural maternal instincts lead her to want to be with her children, to love and protect them (Isaiah 49:15). Scripturally and physically, they are the weaker vessel (1 Peter 3:7). Traditional roles, which are scriptural, recognize and value the contributions of both men and women to marriage and the home. It is an interdependent relationship by design; all benefit from it, especially vulnerable children. It takes the best of a young mother’s time, energy and presence to fulfill these roles, especially when dependent children are in the home. Institutions and care centers are poor replacements for the care that a godly mother provides for her child--body, soul, and spirit. Today’s women are being led to believe that selected verses from Proverbs 31 mean that a young mother should work 40+ hours a week outside of the home, leaving her precious children, her heritage according to Psalm 127:3, to the care of strangers. Having followed this pattern, many young mothers later realize that they would like to be at home with their children, but have student loan debt, a two-income lifestyle, unsupportive husbands, etc., that are obstacles to coming home. Many men complain that their wives with both career and children are too tired for physical intimacy. Many young women pursue demanding college and career paths, unaware that they may be forever missing the window for marriage and children in so doing. None of these things serve marriage and family well; they are a detriment to them. Three times in scripture, women are identified and called keepers at home (Psalm 113:9, 1 Timothy 5:14, and Titus 2:5 “keepers at home”). I do not know of any passages that in a like manner command men. Statistically, many men are shrinking back from their roles as providers as feminist thought has taken hold, blurring the distinctions between men and women as seen in the trend of stay-at-home dads (illness/disability, notwithstanding). God has not left us without a pattern to follow in marriage and the home, both in nature and in scripture. Godly mothers are greatly needed in their homes. A woman’s home and family can be her primary endeavors during her children’s formative years and is a blessed form of service to God and others.

My God. Yes. We know. I know. I'm going to destroy my child and ruin his prospects of a healthy, happy life. How can other mothers like myself who were in seriously abusive relationships that resulted in a pregnancy due to constant assault help ourselves heal and raise children that succeed? Where are these conversations on the right? There's many women like me who are late to the Christian conservative game and have been through true hell. All I hear is how I'm failing before I begin and my son has no hope. It's very frustrating. I can assure everyone, having the father around would be detrimental to mine and my son's safety. He's never even met him. He left when I was 5 months pregnant, shortly after body slamming me and choking me unconscious. I swear it was God that sent him away. He knew what would have happened. Please....just one time.....give mothers like me an ounce of hope.

I so agree. I adopted two kiddos through foster care as a single mom. All I hear is how I’m failing my kids because I didn’t provide them a home with a father. The more I learned about the importance of a father figure the more I kept questioning whether I made a mistake or not in adopting as a single mom. But God keeps bringing me back to his word and a couple examples of single parents who adopted. Esther was adopted by her cousin. He was a single dad to her. Moses was adopted by Pharaohs daughter. Doesn’t mention anything about her being married when she adopted him. God has a heart for single parents. He is our father. And he is a father to your child. Raise your son to be close to Jesus and he will grow up to be an amazing man.

Praise God you and your son are safe. I think it’s OK to state what the best situation is. Kids with their mom and dad. The next best thing is a parent in the Word of God. And you are! Hold fast to the Word, focus on your daily walk with Christ and keep moving forward. I understand your perspective, I took ownership of my faith recently, and my husband, though he’s an amazing dad- is not Christian. So I struggle not having this perfect “Christian home” But I do my part. I share the gospel. I hold fast to 1Cor 7:13-16.

Anybody here have resources on kids that grow up without their bio mom or a mother? I've heard less research on this compared to the proof of need for a father.
@-MattMcCauley-
@-MattMcCauley- 2 года назад
That kind of research is minimal since mother absence is so uncommon compared to fatherlessness. Often too a higher percentage of single dads are actually widows, since it is so hard for a dad to get custody in a divorce and the children of widows, male or female, tend to have better outcomes than kids of broken homes. What little research there is suggests that kids raised by single dads' outcomes do not differ much from kids raised in homes in which both their natrual parents are present. A huge factor is that mothers tend to bring new men around the children and these new men are statistically 60 TIMES (not percent, TIMES) more dangerous to the child than is that child's dad. Dads are also less likely than mothers to abuse their own kids. Also, often women go along with the abuse of their new man, a la the heart-wrenching Gabriel Fernandez child torture/murder case.
@RachelDee
@RachelDee 2 года назад
@@-MattMcCauley- yeah I already knew about the non biological male threats that single women tend to bring around. I'm curious more from a standpoint of increasing women/mother erasure via gender ideology and to have a data driven reason why 2 gay dads are not as good as having 1 dad and 1 mom.
@-MattMcCauley-
@-MattMcCauley- 2 года назад
@@RachelDee Ah, OK, that makes sense. Unfortunately the whole homosexual parenting/adoption/IVF phenomenon is so new that good data are not really out there and what there is is often just pro-gay propaganda--ie very small sample sizes, self-reporting, etc., junk in, junk out. What were DO know from decades of data in other scientific disciplines is that moms, especially mothers with their own or an adopted child, are far more attuned to the subtle cues put forth by infants and toddlers and attending to them accordingly, these traits bond the mother to her infant in a way that men just did not evolve to do. That does not even consider the countless benefits babies derive from breast feeding, which imparts not only substantial nutritional benefits, but bonding benefits as well from the skin-on-skin and eye contact, etc. -- things most moms who have ever breast fed their baby are keenly aware of. It is also true that a widowed dad is more likely to have a female relative--mom, sister, in-law, etc., jump in and help with a baby, whereas in your gay men hypothetical I think they are less likely to seek out a female relative to help, so that seems likely to even further deny those kids the benefits of maternal care. So, despite the lack of data and the left politicization of what data we do have it seems pretty obvious that a baby or small child denied a mom is going to suffer at least some detriment by not receiving the numerous benefits moms evolved to provide. To me it seems unconscionably cruel to deny a baby or small child a mother's nurturance and love, just abject selfishness on the part of these gay men.
@RachelDee
@RachelDee 2 года назад
@@-MattMcCauley- yeah on the surface, I'm aware and accept all those patterns. I'm cautious to make those points when so many moms now work out of the home at 6 weeks postpartum and many don't persevere to breastfeed.
