What they did not mention is the first episode "The Seinfeld Chronicles" that aired in the spring/summer of 1989 had a different piano pop rhythm theme. When the show was renamed "Seinfeld" the theme song changed to the song in this video. Also what was happening at that time kind of goes in line with how the trends were at that time....by the late 1980s they were trying something more simple, theme songs were starting to be shortened (look at Kate & Allie intro as one example, Murphy Brown intro as another)...this no theme song or shortened theme song trend started on adult sitcoms, then by the mid 90's were mainstream on all sitcoms. You also need to remember or know that at this time Bobby McFerrin had just had the song "Don't Worry Be Happy" in the Fall of 1988/Winter 1989 on the Top 40 and it was a very popular song, so the sound effects of people using their mouths as instruments was also a bit of a trend at the time, which goes in line with what the composer did. The slap bass was the only instrument played from a keyboard and was the only actual instrument in the theme song.
