i remember really liking this game when it came out. it was before i was tapped into the internet and i didnt read video game magazines so i didnt know what the rest of the world thought lol. i kinda miss those times. now i feel like i know everything about a game 2 years before its released lol
Who cares what the " rest of the world thought" if you like the game, or any other game thats good! Just cause most people don't care for it, doesn't mean you can't like it or even enjoy it. Like the game two worlds 2, I love that game and like 99.9% of reviews and players hate it. But it's fun!
yeah you kinda have to put in a lot of effort into ignoring what the media thinks of certain games in order to form your own opinion and just enjoying whatever it is you like
"yeah it's too hot to evac you out, but we'll drop a whole fucking humvee down" "well can't you just like, idk, lower some ropes instead?" "NO! YOU HAVE TO DO THE DRIVING SECTION!"
I find it funny how after watching that entire synopsis of the game's events and plot, I still don't know if aliens actually invaded or if it was all just a bunch of mutants with alien DNA
One of life's greatests questions lol. From what I gathered it seems aliens touched down in Iraq and brought some weird crystal thing and from there they just spread some kind of virus that infected everyone, and the US government tried to hone and craft the virus to benefit them
Been ages since I played this game but from what I remember the story basically went like this. US Gov finds alien tech and realizes its immense potential in weapons research. They perform a whole bunch of really really inhuman and barbaric experiments on their own soldiers ( who are officially MIA or KIA), homeless people, migrants etc. Something happens and the US Gov is forced to abandon the project. I believe there is mention of sealing whatever research facility with concrete but I cant precisely remember. Anyway, the experimented on test subjects survive and break out, causing all the havoc we see in the game after Iraq. Also I think all the alien creatures we see are the result of them escaping containment when the experimented on insurgents break out. Anyhow thats how I interpreted it.
My tutor in college worked on this game back in the day. I remember asking him why was it such a buggy mess at launch and his response was simply, Mate I was high on white powder most the time. So the title isn't the only black site that came out of this company in 2007 i guess.
@@MrAdamFC cuz u dont know me il let that slip. The truth is music is all im good at. Iv worked with the producer of the strokes while people give me free studio time with wall to wall analog gear. il use meth sometimes to help me focus. If you believe all the bull shit bout meth you are a fool. If you dont believe me just look up ill prospekt. Just cuz im a junkie dont mean i dont have amazing talent. I get to do what people dream of doing and i do it with out trying.
@@izzygrey2981 Ok it was a joke , like you said we don't know each other but i do comedy. anyways Good on you , checked it out and it sounds good, Is it new metal you do ?
I remember being blown away by the demo of this game cause it was one or the first next Gen titles I played. I still really have fond memories of it. Wish they'd throw it up on Steam for a couple bucks or something
The demo was awesome, but also included the best level in the game. Smart but sadly it put high expectations and it didn't deliver. I really wanted more of that urban small town feel, not the many deserts. The game was alright though, not really bad, but not great either and could have been so much more.
I cannot BELIEVE this was recommended to me. I couldn’t remember the name, but as soon as I saw the alien in the thumbnail I instantly remembered. I used to play this game on an Xbox 360 at my dad’s house when I was a kid. I remember the monsters designs, and I LOVED the way the alien bosses looked. Absolute gem
The concept of this game is awesome And honestly we need more classic alien invasion content in movies and games Today aliens are generally just humanoids in hi tech armor, something out of a marvel movie
The Earth Defense Force series, at least, is a very fun B movie style game of alien and giant monster invasion movies. Though very long, and very clearly anime-esque in some aspects.
@@Ryykal Its a Japanese arcade-based game series. no shit its gonna be anime-esque and long when the company is Japanese with the fanservice Wingdivers and Literal Idol Tanks/Mechs with Bodypillow Hammer wielding Fencers. Thats the whole aspect of the game, you can even summon Hololive stars like Fubuki as decoys in the new one. Hell the entire game is anime with the "All is lost but they're these lunatics still fighting so we wont throw in the towel till they do" plot moments (if you pay attention to the backround audio since its arcade based so no cutscenes)
Who would’ve thought that this wasn’t supposed to be a sequel to Area 51,but Midway insisted into making it. Overall the game looks fine. Looking at it reminds me a lot of Resistance Fall of Man.
@@frankkennedy6388 The comment I replied to that seems to have been deleted, Said something to the lines of "Resistance copied the designs". Been months can't remember exactly what it was.
I was one of the tops of the leaderboard on this game's multiplayer back at its relative peak. Made good friends in its multiplayer even though it was short lived. Thanks for bringing back the memories, m8! Good vid!
This game was a Fever dream to me, I remember getting it at a Best Buy in fall 2007 just over the Area 51 subtitle ( I was a big arcade shooter kid growing up) and having so much fun with it. Looking to grab a copy of it one day so I can replay it..
The DOD did studies on if an homeland invasion occurred and the results were pretty much what we all knew. The US military wouldn't be able to stop a full invasion and would have to regroup in strategic locations. The push to remove the invasion forces would come down to the military working closely with militia forces. Meaning the DOD recognizes that the armed American citizen ultimately would be the deciding factor in America falling from an invasion or the invasion forces being removed. So while we all laugh at the NPC with a pistol in his yard, the DOD wouldn't be laughing and would he relying on Americans like that to repel an invasion.
This game was a big part of my childhood, while watching this review I was hit with a huge wave of nostalgia, I think I've beaten this game over an dozen times and genuinely think that this game should be put back on steam and maybe even get a remake. I wish my PlayStation 3 still worked so I could replay this game. Also you did a fucking awesome job reviewing this game, it's a crime that you have only 56k subscribers you make better vids than most youtubers on here, can't wait to see the next vid you upload.
Man, I remember playing this game when I was younger and being pretty confused by the... well... everything. This video certainly clears a lot of things up though, thanks Hammers!
I remember really liking the fight in the town outside of Area 51, where you had to fight your way in. After you enter the bunker complex it was just...I've done this before feeling.
Man I remember the first Area 51 and that was so memorable. Blacksite, while somewhat memorable to me, was one of my first gaming disappointments. It just didn't scratch that itch. If anything, I'd say X-COM: The Bureau is more in line with what I was expecting.
Man I don't even know how many times I replayed Rachel and the Flathead boss. I also remember playing split screen multiplayer where you play as random character models from the campaign and it being pretty fun
I recently downloaded Area 51 to play on my PC, and I must say it's still amazing till this day. I feel like we need more games like that these days. It would definitely be a breath of fresh air.
Excellent commentary on this somewhat under-rated Sci-Fi follow up to the original Xbox game! I have seen several old reviews of this game but none of them had the solid in-depth details nor footage of the more unique aspects of this game, very well done man! I picked this game up a few years ago but never played it, only the Xbox one which I enjoyed.
i cant believe this game and area 51 scared the bajesus out of me. then i hit middle school and learned of a game called doom 3. sure i can play them now but i wont ever forget the excitement and the rush of being scared.
I had no idea Harvey smith was involved with this! He’s a fucking legend with deus ex and Dishonored !!!! All his work at Arkane is amazing imo. Thanks for that new bit of history!
Another video from Mr. Hammers himself that I always wait for and receive in delight. I remember this game to be weird and unusual with what it's trying to tell although having standard gameplay.
I love these longer videos man! I loved Area 51 on the ps2!! I played it non stop as a kid. Happy new year dude and can’t wait to see more of your videos !
I know this is random but I just glanced over at your profile and have been subscribed so long that I kind of was struck when I seen the GTA Vice City Hammer instead of your usual profile picture skull! Also, thank you so much for the video. You've gained so many subscribers this year! I hope 2023 is just as great. Your channel is awesome!
The nighttime gas station level is the one that was picked for the demo released on the 360. I'm pretty sure a lot more people have played that level than have actually played the game 😆
That would be great. I've never actually played blacksite but hope to find a cheep copy of it one day. I still own the PS2 Area 51, i loved that game as a kid and still own it
I'm gonna be frank, boss. I loved this game when I was younger. To me, it was just fun, and I still find nostalgia in it. Also, the VA for the radio host is allegedly Alex Jones himself.
Really liked the medical facility at the start where you can see all the experiments and surgery but the environment is absolutely filthy. Weirdly similar vibe to the movie Attack The Block, where you have aliens invading a London ghetto instead of a big shiny American city and a local drug dealer hangs up an alien corpse in his grow room as a trophy.
I remember first playing a demo of this game on my 360. The character graphics were mind blowing and the lighting and rain effects were unlink anything I'd ever seen at that time
i was a kid when i played the demo of this on my xbox 360, something about it was intriguing to my kid brain lol. I eventually got the game but never finished it, so I am glad to have watched this, I understand the plot a bit better too. Anyway, it was a decent game and that M4 was fun to shoot
2:04 "It was designed to be submersive," Indeed. A boxed copy can survive water pressure up to 300 meters and can hold it's breath for almost seven minutes.
oh dude i remember "your cracker ass don't speak Arabic, hers does" made me bust up laughin' at 1 am when i played it. the "where's the enemy?!" line got exponentially creepier the longer i served in the Army. People forget how odd, paranoid, and shifty that decade was.
Whenever you post a video I always get so excited to watch it I end up binging other older videos and then the new one as like a lead up to it, great vid as always MrHammers!
I love this game and still do. In fact, around the year 2008, my brother and I would often discuss the war commentary, dark undertones, creatures, the strange, underlined themes, and conspiracy theories we would hear about on Coast to Coast AM and how those theories could have influenced this game. I know I still have my PC CD ROM disc that I bought while I was living in Europe. If i remember correctly, the cover stated, in German that it is the uncut version of the game.
"Honestly i cant believe i just talked about this game for 45 minutes" my brother in christ i could listen to you describe paint dry for 4 hours and still be interested, side note, even if ya upload less that just gives us time to rewatch your other videos more brother.
This is one of the games my mom gifted me randomly. So story time. I'm sad to say, this was part of the trend of my mom buying me a game while she was out because she just looked at the cover, thought it was cool and gave it to me. I remember putting it into the xbox 360, dad was on the couch with me, mom was reading. The game booted up on an old black box CRT TV. We hit a dark room where the soldiers went in. And we couldn't see where the door is. Turned up the brightness, no flashlight button. We spent 30 minutes hitting walls because we couldn't find the door I had to go through and I just quit, dad put on one of his car shows and I probably grabbed my DS. The next day I tried again only for it to happen again. And mom ended up returning the game... It makes me sad because I know my mom meant well but what is worse is what happened with this game happened often. I will always remind me of how my mom would surprise me with a game I didn't even know existed, I get excited and blown away with a cool start, only for that game to be bad and either returned or sold years later. I love her and I appreciate the thought, but she didn't have good taste in picking games. And I'm more sad that despite trying to play these bad games, I never finished any of them because they were bad. I would get stuck toward the beginning and the whole playthrough stalled. She changed her strategy to taking me to gamestop to pick something I wanted if it was cheap enough or there was a buy 2 used get 1 free sale, but still. Essentially hearing this game was basically an alpha, that makes so much sense.
Aw man I haven’t thought about this game in so long. This video really brought back some memories. :) I loved the design of the reborn human/mech enemy.
I do like this game as a side thing. The "mutations" are what the people in Area 51 were working on prior. Somehow after the Area 51 incident, technology & bioweapons got leaked to the black market & hense Iraq got their hands on some & experimenting on their own. Maybe even this militia in the US as well, they wanted to break in & get more I quess.
Thank you. Thank you. Thankyou. I have been looking for this game for YEARS. EVER SENSE THE DEMO CAME OUT. LITERALLY YEARS. I used to play the demo that was out a loooooooong time ago on my brothers Xbox. Before he eventually uninstalled it. Thank you. So so much I could never remember the name of this game. And randomly today here it is!!!
I start follow your channel probably 2 months ago, and fucking hell man love your videos! You talk about all the game I played when I was a kid and...I'm re-buyng them (or re-downloading as Manhunt 2 or The Punisher). I love the idea of "retro-review" of them, I always searched for a channel like this. Keep up the good work man! :D
Man, I remember getting my copy of Area 51 from EB Games when it 1st dropped and fell in love with it, I thought it was a pretty badass game, especially the fact that the devs actually had real websites in the game you can look up and all, like the BlackVault among others, I wished they would really make a good sequel of Area 51
thanks for making this video. you just helped me realize i did indeed play this game and completely forgot about it; probably because i enjoyed the original Area 51 so much and this paled in comparison.
Yeah, i refused to play this game on principle when it came out. Area 51 was one of my favorite, single player, fps campaigns. It is still, to this day, in my top 10 fps campaigns.
Great video bro , I played this game once I did beat it but I have completely forgotten about this game thanks for the refreshing trip down memory lane lol
This showed up on my recommended and just awoke a latent memory in me I forgot for years I had. I played this game so much, it was one of the games that I loved growing up and played over and over. I still stand by that.
I remember liking only a few things about the game but barely. To me, it felt like a fever dream. The first game however, I remember fondly and vividly
I remember this game having an insane live action tv spot with a little girl singing ashes to ashes as she walks through a ruined town then one of the scout xenos flying in and screeching into the camera they don’t make tv spots like that nowadays lol
This will sound stupid, but I loved Area 51 and when I saw this game I always thought it was a completely different IP that also just happened to be set in Area 51, so I ignored it.
Great vid!! Area 51 rocked, beat it x 2! Bought black site recently, gonna play it soon. Working on building out my PS3 collection, one heck of a library.
Last week I was trying to remember the name of this game I played it fondly and loved the alien designs And now you upload this video and my memory is flooding with childhood memories thank you!
Dude when I was 11 this game out and I remember asking my mom if we could go buy it and she said sure just shovel the car out, so I did there was a shitload of snow took like 30 minutes and when I went in to get her a snowplow went by and covered the car again.. Was like fuckkken shit so shoveled again and left to get the game. It was fun from what I remember the scene in the gas station and on the street was amazing I still remembered it to this day.
Favorite game when i was in middle school, and i just played the original teaser demo for some nostaigia (too lazy to dig up my copy lol) and it’s still a neat game. Love the settings and the alien designs.
