The BEST drill to learn how to throw like a professional ultimate frisbee player.
I have played for nearly twenty years and being able to throw this type of throw will improve your game tremendously.
I recommend practicing both the backhand and flick 50 throws each a day with a partner. You will begin to master this and your game will improve exponentially.

nice vid. it sounds like the reason why this drill is really effective is because it teaches you to control the disc's flight path by exploring the extremes. explaining how critical placement like that is would motivate me to do this drill a lot. that sorta skill could lead to a lot of points

Good point. Many new throwers have trouble with accuracy and throwing for power and accuracy. This drill helps new (and experienced) throwers really explore the limits and will exponentially give the thrower comfort and experience with more challenging angles than 99% of time you would see in a game. But, by being able to do this well, you’re confidence and skill to be able to make long throws for accuracy and power will be great.

I love it Kurt! Always tried to focus on a similar cue when I try to improve my hucks/throws in general. And I often gave it as a goal to people who struggled to generate power as they get better! Great to see I was on the right track ;) It also helps a lot when the wind rises!

Hey Kurt, thank you for these insightful tips as per usual. I just want to give a little suggestion with the videos: Because your videos are so organized, I think it would help if you can segment them into parts/sections per pointer, if you get what I mean. That way, if learners such as myself want a specific part of your video extra attention, we can just click on a timestamp rather than finding and sliding the red bar to pray. I consistently rewatch your videos so it would also help because learners then can just skip to the part they want to get down/struggle with.

Hello. Thanks for the feedback. I would love to have chapters in my video. Once I reach 1,000 subscribers RU-vid will give me the ability to add that automatically to my videos. Trust me, I want to make it easier for folks to re-watch to the parts that are most important to them and I know this functionality will help. I will get there soon. I appreciate the support!

Awesome content! Do you have any drills or film suggestions to learn how to set your steps up to jump and high point a disc?

Thanks so much for your content. I'm definitely gonna try this drill, and see what I can learn. My question is how I can specifically train my wrist for hucks. I've been trying to isolate each part of my form for hucks, and I think my wrist might be the main reason I've maxed out at 50-60 yd flicks. I haven't seen anyone explain whether the wrist is doing anything different for a huck as opposed to a 10-20 yd pass. Any advice from anyone would be awesome. Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback Isaac. I'll have to do a video on this tip, but one thing you can try is put your throwing elbow at your side while holding the disc, then take your off arm and put it behind your back and grab your throwing elbow. this way you can't wind up and you can practice throwing 10-15yd throws with just your wrist since your off arm will be holding your elbow and you can't move it forward. This should force you to focus on wrist snap and motion. Hopefully that makes sense

This was an ah ha moment for me. IO flick was a throw that plagued me for years. It turns out my grip was malformed, so I couldn't control it through that motion. Once I corrected this, my flick in general improved (read: you're right, great drill). Thank you for the top quality content!
