Jeff, I’m Jack from Holland and I’m 16 yrs old. I’ve started drumming just short of a month now, since my dad said I was talented. I’ve just started following your must know funk grooves video’s, then your fills video and now this. This is by far the best explaining channel about drums on RU-vid. You’re using the English language incorrectly dude. What you really mean, is unnoticed, or undiscovered, not underrated. Nobody in the world would rate Jeff lower than he should be rated, if they have half a brain cell at least.

Not really a drummer but been learning drums a bunch and practicing double strokes on my practice pad a lot lately. This lesson has completely blown my mind with the importance of dynamics/accents along with how tasty simple rudiments can sound. Thank you so much for this

I'm a self taught drummer, and although I could kind of do a 6 stroke roll, it was never really smooth. I'd never heard it explained to break it down into two sets of 3 notes. For whatever reason that did the trick for me. I was actually treating it more like a single followed by a double-stroke and then another single and it never clicked. Within about 20 minutes of practicing over and over I got something that sounded halfway decent. Excited to go through the rest of the exercise!

As a computer programmer turned hobbyist drummer, I never knew what this lick was called but it was always my favorite lick as a listener. I am finding my rudimentarily challenged self tapping this one out on my leg, desk, or whatever surface i can find. This video has got my mouth watering to learn this one.

Long story short . . . start piano 2nd grade ( good at it ) for 5 years. Drums 7th grade ( already knew beats / rhythm, etc. ) . . . and watched a guy play the "set" . . . wah lah . . . Played in 3 '70s rock "bar bands" accum 30 years. I'm 62, and back at school. Already knew paradiddle and paraparadiddle of course. But, I"ve been playing "the same fills for 30 years." I stumbed on to Jeff . . . and this video. I've been at the basic RllrrLRllrrLRllrrLR for a week now. I'm getting there. I"m "back to school" and it's cool ! Thank You. P.S. I needed this 40 yrs. ago.

First off, let me say that I love your videos and your teaching style. I have a slight correction to suggest in your transcription of Fill #4. The way you have it written out, there's only one accented note on the rack tom. However, the way you play it there are actually 4 accented notes on the rack tom. In any case, it's a very cool fill. Thanks, and I hope your young child is allowing you and your wife to get some sleep.

When you do the roll at speed you do rim shots for the single strokes - does that make it easier to get the dynamics right when getting to grips with the 6 stroke roll or is that a technique to work on after the 6 stroke roll has been mastered?

It took a few minutes before I recognized it for. Your other video of the 6 stroke roll. Funny, but i have a visual of that in my poor old head - lol, an oval. R double double L and around again, faster. Then some,bass and cymbals....my poor brain.

As always great lesson and great fill examples. 6 stroke roll is imho one of the best go to rudiment for creating simple, but great sounding fills. Aside from that. Maaan, I really can't get enough of your playing. You sir have this great feeling, the groove is always nice. Basically the drums are signing while you're playing, even when it's not the most complicated stuff. Long time ago I said this one thing: you would be a great drummer for someone like John Mayer. And I still think so, despite him having such an amazing players like Steve Jordan, JJ Johnson or Aaron Sterling. Also you should be way more popular here, on YT ;) Anyway, wish you all the best man.
