Great video Tim. Brought back memories for me of my younger days, music always does. I did join Colombia music club also but it was in '70. I got something like 6 or 8 albums for a dollar and I had to buy I forget how many over the next year or something like that. Great memories Tim, thank you so much. Gaucho is also on my list of top 10
Great video. Lindsey is basically my musical hero, so really glad to see Out of the Cradle getting some attention. One of my demo discs for CD. The vari speed techniques he used gave the guitars a special sound. Thanks again.
Signals by Rush was my gateway album to their more synth heavy period, which I really enjoy. My 2nd favorite album next to Hemispheres. Loved the picks. Take care…
I love the records you picked. Rush, David Bowie, The Beatles. ♥️ I loved the stories you shared about your life and where you were when Lennon had been shot. That was such a dark time. Take care.
Glad you mentioned new morning and self portrait. Both very good and of course, not to be compared to bringing it all back home highway 61 which imo could be the best rock album ever, and of course blonde on blonde time out of mind etc. etc..
I have two vinyl copies of Out of the Cradle....One from Netherlands and the second one from Portugal. Bought via Discogs maybe 15 years ago. Certainly it is a masterpiece and it was nominated for the Grammy for best engineered album. Sound is amazing.
Hi Tim … really enjoyed the tales of your teacher on her motorcycle and hearing about John Lennons death in the attic .. I own 6 that you showed I’ve seen someone else show gaucho it’s always been one of my favourites nice video Tim👍
Love the Steely pull and that Bowie album is killer too, Tim! I’m going to check out that Uncle Tupelo. All highly desirable pulls! Thanks for sharing. Steve
I was lucky enough to see Lindsey Buckingham in a club in CT on the Out of the Cradle tour in 1993. He had four guitarists in order to recreate the music from the album. It was a great show. Reckoning is also my go to REM album. It brings back memories of the summer of 84. I just graduated college and started working for a company that was moving from NYC to Rhode Island. The company hired several recent graduates and trained us in New York for three months. The first thing I did in New York was to stop at one of the many electronics stores and purchase a Sony Walkman. For those three months I listened to three cassettes: My Ever Changing Moods by The Style Council, Undercover by The Rolling Stones, and Reckoning. Reckoning then made it's way into the tape deck in my AMC Gremlin and stayed there for a while. I have the record and when I play it I am taken back to the streets of NY and the summer of 84.
Hello Tim definitely enjoyed the video and the selections!! Thanks to you I purchased Blue Mask by Lou Reed and am lovin it...wow..just like you said, the gtr work burns!! So for sure I'll be searching high and low for Lou's New York, though up to now, have never seen it in the wild...but I feel lucky!! And another big thanks for leads on Uncle Tupelo and Lindsey B...gotta put those on radar...and BTW I live in Westchester IL a western suburb of CHGO...take care and keep the videos comin!!
Love New York by Lou but Rock N Roll Animal is my go to for Lou. Saw the tour and have an autographed copy. Rock & Roll the concluding song has been my pump song since high school. “It was all right” and it always will be for me.
1.rough mix-pete townshend/ronnie lane. 2. pour down like silver-richard and linda thompson 3.taking tiger mountain (by strategy) 4. muswell hillbillies-the kinks 5.american stars and bars-neil young . the somewhat recent deluxe release of reed's "new york" comes with a live selection of the songs on this album.
Actually producer Bob Johnson left in the middle of recording New Morning not being able to handle him any longer where Al Kooper took over producing duties and Al blew his gasket with Bob and he left the sessions.
Love NY and the Dirty Boulevard especially. New Sensations is also great, w/ Turn to Me and the title track. Nice to see another R.E.M. pick - it seems everyone has their "go to," and they're all great - hard for me to choose among them. Good picks, thanks.
Great video Tim! Rush is my favorite band (hence my RU-vid name) and Signals holds a special place for me. I was in junior high when it came out and the message Neil was saying in Subdivisions really resonated with me at that time. As far as best pressings of Signals, I’m wondering if you have the RL (usually only on side 1)? The GOAT IMO
@@Universityofvinyl they’re getting tougher to find, especially in good condition. I’ll keep my eye out for one and grab it for you as I’ll be visiting several shops in the coming weeks
I've told a few ppl about the Buckingham release. Shame it's not more available on vinyl. Reminds me a lot of the Tango in the Night unreleased/demos stuff. He's a genius in the studio. One day I'll find a vinyl copy at some swap meet buried under some old Perry Como records!
These albums that we chose definitely deal with sentimentality. When music brings back good memories especially the older we get, the more we pull it. Enjoyed the stories
We all love the most whatever we listened to when we were young. I care more about pre-1975 than post-1975. Directly related to my particular baby boomer age group. Once we get past Led Zep, I don't care much.
My go to Rush may just be Exit Stage Left. I love the version of Trees on that album. Side 2 of Moving Pictures is great too as I love the Camera Eye and Vital Signs.
I also have my go too selection. Really nice to hear about some of your last segments enjoyed every one. Maybe some additions to those segments called going down memory lane? Any opinions on Mofi One Steps and UHQR additions specifically these UHQR? Been thinking of pulling the trigger on Steely Dan is it worth it? Thank You
Hi Brian, the Pretzel Logic UHQR just released is getting very mixed reviews. I have the UHQR Countdown to Ectasy -- Love it! I don't have the UHQR of Can't Buy A Thrill but reviews are through the roof positive on that one too. I have two near mint original black label ABCs that do it for me. I will be buying Gaucho UHQR this December and probably Katy Lied next year also
Hello Tim, I have watched all your videos to my knowledge. I have a Steely Dan question that maybe you have addressed in the past or maybe not. The song FM was never put on a Dan album to my knowledge. But it was put on the FM sound track. If this is true why do you suppose Donald and Walter arranged it that way? I pretty much bought FM for the song. And on a separate note some you tube channels sit and bash the Aja album. The only thing I can think of is most of the songs played on the fm radio. I get it I lived it too. That being said Dan music is timeless to most all of us and still Aja is one of my go to spins even though I own all their albums. Go figure from me to you, long live all of their musical masterpieces.
Hi Jon, my understanding is that Walter and Donald were asked to contribute to the film’s soundtrack near the end of the sessions for Aja. They had already “tracked” Aja with Roger Nichols and were happy with the running order so FM was going to be solely released on the OST for the movie. Walter did all of the bass and guitar work with the incredible solos some of the best work he has done IMO. I think due to the fact of the huge success of Aja and the airplay and familiarity of the songs on the album vs. other albums, a bit of “fatigue” has probably set in among some who feel it’s over rated or over played. I don’t bash it but lately my fave is Gaucho. Thanks for watching and appreciate your questions/comments!
My list: Pink Floyd - Dark side of the moon Supertramp - Crime of the century Dire Straits - eponymus Steely Dan - Can´t buy a thrill The Smiths - The Queen is dead The Waterboys - This is the Sea Pavlov´s Dog - Pampered Menial Smashing Pumpkins - Adore Jethro Tull - Songs from the Wood Television - Marquee Moon Neutral Milk Hotel - In the aeroplane over the sea Pixies - Doolittle Sufjan Stevens - Illinois Pink Floyd - The Wall Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms
Some of yours are my go-tos as well (Lou Reed/Steely Dan). Love Abbey Road but really only listen to side 2 all the way thru. Can't stand Maxwell so I generally avoid this side. My Beatles go to is Let It Be followed by the White Album. Not a Stones fan? Beggars Banquet and Let it Bleed are often on the turntable at my house.
I'd pull 2112 or Fly By night by Rush but i graduated in 1976.. Great pick New York. But i like Transformer a little bit more i think..Gaucho is great but i choose Pretzel Logic instead..Had Gaucho on album but cant get the cd for some reason. As for Dylan,I pick Blood on the tracks anyday..Like i said before. Its my age i guess! Dont have any Marshal Crenshaw...Saw him in concert though back in seventies.I pick Hunky Dory for David Bowie. Not a bad cut on it. And no i dont own Abbey Road at all!
Signals is definitely a Top 5 Rush album. A lot of great memories listening to that record, still have my original from when that came out (I was a freshman in HS). Great picks! - Mike
Dear kind sir, ranking Signals over Hemispheres and New York over Rock and Roll Animal is blasphemy. Please publish an official apology and revision. Sincerely your patrons
