I also read Frankenstein in the fall of 2023 and I also really liked it a lot! As you said, the first 20% are very dense but afterwards one just only can get gripped!🤩

I finally read Frankenstein in 2023 around Halloween. I thought it was brilliant. It’s one of those books that you sit back and think to yourself what message it was trying to portray more than the story itself. Loved it!

Yes! I was blown away by The Rules of Magic as well. Not just one of the best books I've read this year, but of all time. Hey, I think you should read and review The Idiot by Elif Batuman and, also, Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin. If you ever read nonfiction, give Shakespeare Was a Woman and Other Heresies by Elizabeth Winkler.
Ever since you mentioned That Time I Got Drunk and Saved A Demon, I've been wanting to get my hands on it. Finally I have a copy now and will be one of my reads for 2024!! Excited!! I read Half a Soul based off of your recommendation here. Loved it. But, I was so disappointed when I thought I had thirty more pages left, but it was an excerpt from another book and a bunch of other extras!!! I've been had!!! 😩
I LOVE Frankenstein. I was also intimidated by it but read it a few years ago and it’s still one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read . The way that Frankenstein’s monster describes seeing a bird for the first time still makes me tear up when I think about it 🥹

Also, I am currently reading The Ex Hex, and it is so good, I think it is going to be a 5 star read for me🌟

I finished it at the beginning of the year and it was one of the best one I read. My two favourites weren"The very secret society of irregular witches" and "The final Empire" (first novel of Mistborn trilogy. Hope you have another great reading year! ✨✨✨
Thank you for such a great video, Lexi. I now want to try and read That time I got drunk and saved a demon. My favorite books of 2023 were Divine Rivals and The Adventures of Amina Al-Surafi. I was really surprised by The Adventures of Amina because I didn't think I would enjoy a pirate book, but it ended up being such a great story. I have just started the Fourth Wing and ACOTAR series so hopefully this year will be a great reading year.
Talking about Frankenstien, I highly recommend the movie 'Mary Shelley' (2017), which portrays the tumultuous and very literary life of Mary Shelley who wrote Frankenstein. Watching this movie gives you a thorough background into the author and her book, the only book she ever wrote. Her husband was the famous poet Shelley, who received most of the literary attention in their life. It's a wonderful movie for literary folks to watch. My favourite book of 2023 was a big book titled 'Out of The Night' published in 1941 in New York, by Jan Valtin. This is a memoir, but reads like a thriller, and is about the author's life as an active, devoted communist in the mess of pre-WW II Germany, and in the dynamic world of Europe during the 1920s and 30s. What a read. What a history lesson. What a survival story!

I recently picked up The Rules of Magic...I love Alice Hoffman's books! You should read Magic's Pawn by Mercedes Lackey. It's the first in a trilogy and it literally changed my life. 🌟⭐✨
My number one book for the whole year was Lightfall. The depictions of mental health in that book were stunning. The art was beautiful, and the story was a page-turner ✨
✨ Amina Al Sarafi was one of my favorites too, although I have to give my top 1/2 to A River Enchanted, & A Fire Endless. It’s a beautiful duology that I think you would love if you haven’t gotten to it yet. Magic, love of family and frendship, and breaking a curse. ✨

Ok you won a subscription from me with your favorite book being the Rules of magic. Alice Hoffman is such a good writer. I HIGHLY suggest you read Practical magic. It was so much better than the movie but also, I never will skip the movie when it comes up. I love it too but so much different from the book. The book is so much more. I cannot even express.

I've heard of The Adventure of Amina Alafi and Alone with You in the Ether, but this is the first time anyone's described them in a way that made me want to read them. Last year, my favorite book was The Perfect Run by Maxime J. Durand. It's post-apocalyptic superhero (kind of) story with one of the most hilarious protagonists I've ever read, as well as really poignant themes about time and immortality. Highly recommend you check it out. ✨⭐😊
