The English Patient is one of my favorite books (and movies, too)! I’m so glad to see someone else talk about it. Also, I read Hitting a Straight Lick with a Crooked Stick earlier this year, and there were some seriously striking stories in the collection.
Great selection and analysis. I love many of these novels. I adore Angela Carter. Nights at the Circus, Wise Children, and The Bloody Chamber are my favorites of hers.
I absolutely adored Nights at the Circus until the last third where everything goes off the rails (literally) - it felt to me like it didn't fit in with the rest of the book at all and I didn't really understand why it suddenly went off in a different direction. It was such a shame because I loved the rest so much! The whole Siberia section just bored me and confused me :'(
