I haven't watched this yet but if Gary Goodridge isn't in the top 10 I will be extremely disappointed with you guys, as far as I know he's one of the only fighters to have like 2-3 losses via submission due to fatigue. Lol 🤣 he openly said in an interview that he thought he could just power his way through the tournament he had no idea that cardio was so important. Took him years before he finally had decent cardio.
Before anybody metions DDP, he does have the highest strike differential in middleweight. He gets tired but keeps throwing no matter what. Thank you for attending my TED Talk After looking at stats again I see he also has top 10 accuracy and is leader in strikes per minute. Also longest active winstreak.
The fact you guys put Tank on the front is hilarious. He fought in a time where guys didn't even know what cardio was and he certainly didn't care even if he did 😂 He drank beer as a job and fought for fun
I loved Tank Abbott. His matches were hilarious. We sat in the barracks as he picked up his opponent, tried to throw the guy over the octagon, then hit the opponent so hard that the men went into a human pretzel."Is he dead!?"
That was the myth he tried to cultivate, cause it was what the fans wanted to hear. Tank trained hard with legit coaches and thought his power and wrestling would be enough. And fought for fun? He's on record saying how psychologically difficult it is going to the cage, knowing that another man will try to beat the crap out of you.
Not really. BJ Penn actually developed quite excellent cardio in his prime years. The biggest problem with BJ which was consistent throughout his whole career; was his lack of discipline to training. BJ coasted on his raw talent and athleticism for the majority of this career, its honestly a miracle he accomplished as much as he did knowing this.
@@madgavin7568 agree. his cardio wasn't that bad, it was his own undisciplined lifestyle that caught him plus people started not to be scared on his BJJ anymore since Faras Zahabi exposed that BJ Penn's submission skills only work when he's on top not when he's on his back flat on the ground.
So when but the *"Conzuri"* sneakers, you'll be nearly *3* inches taller, your friends, co-Workers and Family will think you had a *Growth* *spert* as a *Grown* man
I’m glad mma fighters have really worked on their cardio over the past 15 years. As a boxing fan that was the one thing I hated to see. Fighters gassed after just one round was just unacceptable
Tank Abbott never got Gassed out 😆 dude was top Boxer, Wrestler & Power lifter Tough SOb my favorite fighter was Sambo fighter Oleg Takagrov. Cardio is important though! That's why you got HGH & Supplements they help you with Cardio & actually Beet Juice Beets the vegetable I would drink before I would train the beet Juice helps! Boxers have the best Cardio better than MMA guys.
Who was that fighting Phil Baroni around the 8:00 min mark? Who ever it is, is harder than a coffin nail. Dude had his face kicked, stomped and knee'd all while he was on his back, and somehow he not only survived but he won. Crazyness i tellz ya
Bob Sapp is the biggest example of big dudes with no power. Ah the good old days of MMA when you could kick a dude in the head while he was on the ground 😂
0:31 I hate the idea of those shoes. Better to learn a valuable life lesson by getting over being insecure about things you cant change like height, than use a mental crutch like these shoes. You'd still be short but you'll be happier and more confident than someone wearing those shoes
The one with Nick Serra was hilarious!!! When he just collapses to the canvases without even being hit its just hilarious!!!?? I can't believe he did that...at least go down from a hit to disguise it and try to save some face!? That has gotta be one if the most pathetic things I've ever seen in a fight!!?? Guy games out that bad that he just collapses and won't get up!? Just pathetic!?
Everyone always downplays Lutters fight with Silva. He had him mounted and had he submitted the Spider it would have been the most epic victory of all time.
I do believe that muscle bound guys got tired quickly. I don’t know how many abused steroids but they hinder cardiac output and with all that muscle the heart is working overtime. Sapp, Marius, and Colemen all seemed to be juicing.
And on an MMA note.. Matt Sera's brother should be ashamed ...that wasn't him being too tired that was him being a p*ssy with no heart ... I'm not a professional level athlete but I've been exhausted (definitely not after a round of grappling ) but exhausted you have to be on the verge of death to collapse and it ain't like laying back like him if you are exhausted you eventually collapse not lay down throw a weak guard smh that was just embarrassing I don't want to watch the rest of what's above him in the list
as soon as i saw this title i said please, these dudes are not casuals, please dont let them have conor on here as he obviously doesnt have top 10 worst cardio of all time he just has well known not the greatest cardio because, well, hes the most well known period.. ah but alas...
Makwan "Mr. Finland" Amirkhani. The inevitability of Mr. Finland gassing out after round 1 had already grown into a big joke in the forums. The guy got some nice stoppages, mostly subs, in round 1 but got kicked out from UFC recently because he just couldn't go into the second round without gassing out anymore even with multiple tries, and had a habit of totally hitting a wall earlier in his career also after first dominating with wrestling in the beginning of the fight. In fact he never lost the first round in his whole career.
Always felt kinda bad for Makwan, I agree with everything you said btw, had a lil bit of a rough slate with his opponents too with Allen and Shore, and, early on at least, seemed like a solid fighter, never seemed to me like someone who would end up like he did
He always comes to mind when I think of a one round fighter. He always has an amazing first round but man.. does he ever go downhill quick lol. Terrence McKinney is similar too, one round or bust
Conor's always having himself filmed doing some high level cardio before he goes in and gases out by the third round. Pretty sure he's running for the shot and quits when the cameras off. "No one trains like I do" - Conor Macgregor. You got that right, Conor
I think it also has alot to do with his drugs and alcohol intake, and also just his style of fighting too, but yeh it also wouldn't surprise me if he was cheating on the cardio days
It's because of his style. Everything he does in the first 2 rounds is explosive and takes a toll quickly. Add that in with drinking whiskey constantly and it's no wonder he has a small gas tank.
It was so weird to see him get a 2nd wind vs Diaz I legit wondered for a time if that was a lucky one-off; or if, given the opportunity, he just to get past that first wall to unlock his reserves? The fact he never managed to replicate it, of course, suggests the former; to say nothing of some of the points the others raise here. 😂
Honorable mention: Derrick "my ballz was hot" Lewis. His cardio has been questioned many times. Then again, this video could have been devoted mostly to the heavyweight division by itself.
Everyone who has fought him said he doesn't fall off in the later rounds, most of them said he starts to hit harder. He might look gassed but he's still going strong unlike a lot of other dudes who fall apart after a round or two.
Bob Sapp famously threw most of his fights, certainly 90% of them after 2008. He would take a hit, drop to the ground, turtle up and wait for the ref to end the fight. This was his business strategy: get paid whilst taking as little damage as possible. Nothing to do with his gas tank.
Well, nobody really expected the most out of a Bob Sapp fight. Sapp was really more of a freak show attraction than a legitimate competitor. Yes, he had some high-profile wins, but he was definitely more a brand than a fighter. Just seeing him was enough for a crowd to get their money"s worth. I really can't blame him for doing the bare minimum.
Tank Abbott tried to come back to the octagon. A brutal street brawler that was nortourious to beat down his opponents in the first minute. But Tank Abbott lacked stamina. I remember he was winning the fight but passed out on the back of his opponent.
His redemption knockout of cabbage Correia in their second fight was amazing, never seen a knot that big. You can say he threw wildly, but there was some serious power behind those punches.
GSP's coach did a good breakdown on why Conor burns out quickly. Like BJ Penn and Vitor Belfort, Conor is primarily a fast twitch fiber athlete and he has great finishing power in the 1st 2 rounds. It comes at a cost however as to get that great finishing power, he has much less slow twitch or endurance based muscle fibers. Conor trains hard and is in great shape but he will never have the same capacity for endurance as someone like Nate Diaz who is far more slow twitch dominant.
@@jsdzx Considering Conor's knee issues and other things, it maybe too rough on his body to run outside on grass/pavement. I am surprised he hasn't done some type of elliptical/treadmill work that allows running but is easier on the joints.
@@balmorrablue3130 You can improve the capacity of those fibers to a degree but certain things will remain constant. Different body and fiber types have strengths and weaknesses.
To bad Du Plessis literally could only breathe 10% out of 1 side of his nose and none out the other...yet he was still winning and fixed it and just KO'd Whittaker right
That's a lot more blood that needs to move around the muscles. Takes more oxygen to oxygenate the blood. Even just the change in weight can affect how much energy it takes to raise your arms.
@@rogerm2867 a 6'1 330 pounds former NCAA champion in wrestling and Mike Tyson's bodyguard who competed in the UFC and Pride. His bouts were often short but after 5 minutes he got gassed due to his weight. He could be better with 50 pounds lost
@@thediaz07 I remember thinking Lutter was pretty competitive in R1 and had Anderson in real trouble in the first few minutes, but it was clear he didn’t have the gas to really compete, and Silva just destroyed him in R2.
1. Barao v Dillashaw 1 2. Garbrandt v Cruz 3. Cain v JDS 2 4. Holm v Rousey 5. Nunes v Pena 2 6. Couture v Sylvia 7. Jones v Shogun 8. Silva v Franklin 9. GSP v Hughes 2 10. Usman v Woodley
The fight with Houston and Kimbo was the most surreal for me. We were all sitting there watching completely confused. And the way it ended was just embarrassing.
Kimbo did have a nice slam. But yeah, I remember very distinctly watching that live at my ex girlfriends. I was so hyped up and then it was just awkward as hell trying to explain to her how it’s usually better than that lol.
Saw Conzuri shoes on an IG ad once, thought it was a pretty interesting idea so I did some research on them. Here's what I found so I can hopefully save you some $: Almost every review was negative, most of the reviews were divided between the quality of shoes being REALLY weak like fall apart in 3 months weak and Conzuri's customer service taking weeks/months to respond to issues. Apparently the shoes are super bottom-of-the-barrel quality and the insoles that are meant to increase your height with your own shoes does not contour to your shoe. There are plenty of quality established shoe brands that increase your height subtly, I will not list them here because I'm not a shill. But do NOT spend your $ on Conzuri, they are maybe 1 grade higher than a scam.
Tanks cardio wasn’t that bad. He took fights on short notice a lot. Verses Maurice Smith he had 3 days notice. Verses Ferrozzo he had a bad knee and was supposed to fight a 200 lb guy and the put in a 350 lb guy at the last minute. He fought at a higher pace than others as well. Yes he was gassed against Oleg but so was Oleg who laid on the ground after the fight much longer. He had many fights that went a long time without rounds. He definitely shouldn’t be number 1 on the list.
Also,it is kind of unfair because this was a later round in the one night tournament, at a time when there where very few breaks. Tank is pretty much dead by this point.
Tough list, tough concept. I get why you did it that way. Kind of have to be super literal or super flexible with definitions - your way was likely safer and more correct. But here are mine basically the “best” (most decorated) fighters who won in spite of a mini gas tank compared to their respective division (aka sure Derrick lewis but compared to HW unless your Cain at sea level the HW are out). Already a nightmare caveat fest 😂 I don’t envy y’all on this one but curious your list under these stipulations: 1. Connor 2. Zabit 3. Hendo (ufc) 4. Moreas 5. BJ Of the HWs honorable mention: - Mir - Francis - Overeem Mention bc I
