For saw ice cube last year, hearing him talk about his time in n.w.a. And his time after was crazy to hear. Also hearing good day and no Vaseline was awesome
Kids today really won’t understand just how big of a deal Eminem was back then. I remember The Marshall Mathers LP was so controversial that they were playing anti homophobic commercials during the Grammys, because he was performing😂😂😂 I’m not laughing because I think homophobia is funny I’m laughing because I remember how hilarious the commercials were. They were literally MTV news specials about how problematic Eminem’s music was. And all that did was make la 12 year old me want to listen to the album. Prior to that I only knew this singles. But after hearing that album my jaw literally dropped💀💀💀because I couldn’t believe he was saying the things that he said on that album. Songs like “Kim”, Criminal, Marshall Mathers, Remember Me…hell the whole album was absolutely INSANE!!!😂😂😂 even now as a grown man I can’t believe Interscope records actually let that album get released. But I’m glad they did.😂😂😂🔥🔥🔥
Kim was so extreme they censored a decent chunk of it on the explicit version of the album and on the censored version they just had to straight up cut it and replace it with another song
In my opinion, 2 live crew had to been the most controversial album. Governments banned states from even selling the album and record store guy went to jail for selling a copy damn😬
Small little side note. Prince was also a reason for the parental advisory label. Tipper gore (because of course it was), founded the PMRC after seeing here young daughter dance to princes song “darling Nikki”, which was very sexual and explicit for the time. The PMRC also gave us the iconic trial that had twisted sister, among others, defending free speech in music and calling out the hypocrisy of the PMRC, and the nation at large
I think by then, everybody knew Em’s schtick. It was more or less expected by that point. But you’re right as far as the lines and concepts themselves. Super fucked up album.
Ice Cube’s second album, Death Certificate, is another album that is controversial. The songs “Black Korea” and “No Vaseline” caused controversy due to attacking Koreans and Jews. In Ice Cube’s defense, he was taking about some Koreans who don’t respect Black people and Jerry Heller was the main target.
The song “Fuck The Police” was banned on Triple J (Double J during the time) so as a protest, the people at Double J played Express Yourself by NWA for 24 hours straight
love the vid but bro 10 seconds in💀 hip hop definitely especially recently has been the center of controversy’s but definitely not the one with the most known or worsts that would probably go metal or even rock
I’m glad The 7 Day Theory is mentioned. Pac with ‘Blasphemy’ pointed out a bunch of contradictions in the Bible. Pac then predicted the future fate of Puffy, Jimmy Henchman, and dissed everyone.
So ik y'all Americans love America and this whole top's about American rappers but there's this Mexican Hip-hop group, Molotov, they dropped their first album I think in 1996 and their album was dope, it was so controversial and they even dropped many songs against the Mexican Politicians, that album was MASSIVE in not only Mexico, it was massive in the whole Hispanic region, it was so massive that some governments decided to ban it 😿
Oh I think that would have to be my favorite album tupac did I had done some tracks for tupac in the studio he paid me twelve thousand dollars I thanked him for that me and tupac are brothers we had good times together his music will be here forever it will never stop
You know like me whenever I buy a rap album and I listen to it and hear the lyrics i never get offended by what they say throughout it i find the music to be entertaining not offensive
Whenever I purchase an album I listen to it and I enjoy the music I never blame the hip hop artist for what they say on it I listen to it because it entertains me I find the music cool I never see it to be offensive I enjoy the album when I put it in my stereo I never have nothing against it period it is just music
NWA only caused as much controversy as they did because they were ground breaking in that genre. 2 live crew and their lyrics were so much more controversial at the time.
the thing people miss out when looking at lil nas x is that in the exact same music video were he dances infront of the devil he also dresses up as an angel and kills the devil too this controversy is so unnecisarry
People just love 2pac. With the way he died, no one has been locked up for it yet, and it involves DID HE DO IT? Then biggy dyng the same way. It's the perfect storm for conspiracy. I want to believe he's is alive and I still watch videos about it.
100% eminem on here bro. Literally any of his albums could go on here, he creates masterpieces sometimes but some stuff he does is just straight up insane. Still my fav rapper tho, lots of other good ones on here tho
i don’t wanna “well actually” you but the parental advisory tag was actually created because of prince. a senators wife caught her kid listening to darling nikki and wanted the album banned
no that wasn’t the reason it was just musically ass, Eminem has been political on all his albums since Eminem Show (White America, We as Americans, Mosh, Square Dance)
I wouldn’t say so, his music wasn’t exactly controversial at all if we’re being honest, I mean I guess you could say 808s was because it was a new style of music. And maybe Yeezus too because it was trying to go the Death Grips route. But besides those albums I wouldn’t say his music was controversial.
@@jesuspernia8031 content wise you could easily put mbdtf because of the lyrics, yeezys with the whole black kkk thing, the life of pablo with the taylor swift shenanigans, and now vultures
No Ice t? No Geto boys? I understand that underground artist like esham or ganksta nip aren't on here.... but putting little nas x and kanye on here... or even having eminem twice is a disservice to the groups that paved the way
Vultures has been out 3 weeks and it’s already so controversial 😂. Honestly interested on how public perception of that album will change in coming years
@@thatguymatt5816nah it's still a 7/10 album just kanye standards are so high It's a collab album so I don't mind it in his discography just a fun no fucks giving album
I think there’s 2 sides of this coin between extremist Christians getting too easily mad at things, and musicians that’re ACTUALLY saying blasphemous stuff. All of the old stuff that Tyler said was only because he was playing a character, and not actually trying to attack any Christians. Lil Nas X on the other hand is saying and doing blasphemous stuff JUST to be controversial, and get more money
So insane clown posse having great milenko pulled on release day and dropped from Hollywood records, only to re-release on island records wasn't controversial
