I love that Strider never blames the parents nor the kids on any of these. I always get iffy when people blame the parents for kids being injured by toys. Accidents can happen out of nowhere, even with a watchful eye. Even if it is technically their fault, nobody should be blamed, that only adds more pain to the grief stricken parents.

That glass-blowing kit probably did inspire some kids to get jobs in the ever-increasing number of glass factories on the east coast, and mid-west during the early 1900's to 1940's. But yes, the chemicals used to make those pretty colors were very toxic (uranium, plus others), and it was not uncommon for the average glass-blower to live very short lives.

In the early XX century, people used radioactive material in everything (watches, toys, dishes and glassware, etc.) because it glows in the dark, there is a famous story about a group of women who worked at a clock factory painting glow in the dark dots on the dials of wrist watches and how they all died of cancer. Look it up: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radium_Girls

I mean the set isn't that dangerous the amounts of radioactive material would only be notably dangerous if ingested(the sources or the uranium ore) and the actual exposure to radiation would probably be less then an air plane ride. I mean as long as the kid was like older the 12(im assuming most 12 years olds know not to put stuff in there mouths) the effects would be extremely small if any like less than .001% increase in chance to get cancer or something like that

Everytime I hear of the aqua dots I always end up thinking of the fun beads I had as a child. No water required, you put the beads carefully onto a pre made plastic board, (or the simple square one if you were feeling inventive), then when your picture was complete, you had to iron them until they were flattened and remove in order to preserve your creation for life (or until someone accidentally or on purpose tore it or squashed it and basically destroyed it). I think they're still around now, but I don't think they're marketed as kids toys anymore, partly because of the tiny beads required and probably mostly because of the fact you had to use an iron to get it to work, and regardless of instructions stating you should ask an adult, I wonder how many children weren't quite that responsible.

About the Cabbage Patch Kids - when these were recalled, my little sister had already gotten one. I tried my absolute hardest to get this doll to eat my hair or get my fingers stuck (mind you I was a teenager and I wanted to test how true it was) and I could not get it to happen. It was laughable how hard I tried to see if this toy was dangerous and couldn't get it to do anything harmful at all. I bought one for myself (hidden high up on a shelf at Kmart) and never opened it afterwards. In fact, I now collect them when I find them and have yet to have a single issue. My sister never had any problems with hers either. I really have to wonder what on Earth these kids were doing to get them to eat their body parts.

I survived the original creepy crawlers from the sixties, with the open metal hot plate. I don’t remember burning myself, but I melted stuff on it for sure. Still remember the smell. I won’t even start on what you could do with a sixties easy-bake oven. I must have been the worst kid; luckily no one ever gave me lawn darts.

*When the official Sonic 3 Happy Meal toys were made to promote Sonic 3 & Knuckles, being one of two reasons that the game was split into two games, there was a Tails toy that had a pull-string that you’d pull to make Tails fly, but was recalled and temporarily replaced with a ball with Tails on it before replacing it with a similar toy that let you pull something that made Tails spin instead of making him fly. There is also another banned toy, it's named "evil stick". The reason why, is because in 2014, a mother bought her daughter a toy. Back home, she peeled back the foil to find a girl cutting herself inside (and the "wonderful" and "music" it promised had it laughing like a witch isn't that just lovely). The mother was just absolutely Furious going to the dollar store to see the store owner who is just very hesitant to see his wrong doing. News, outraged parents, interviews all that stuff. I think it is off the shelves because the store owner doesn't want to remove the toy if he has another complaint from a customer DIRECTLY. but yeah just telling you that :)

We had a few of these but let me talk about the CSI kit - I’ve sworn for YEARS that on various places around our house, more specifically on some door handles and sink faucets, the dust/powder left a permanent finger print. My parents are just about to sell our family home, and it’s 2021, the kit was released in 2007, and those finger prints have been a permanent part of the house for as long as I can remember. This is the part where I wish RU-vid could let me post images, but I definitely feel less crazy now that I know that kit was dangerous lol.

Recently, Clackerballs have resurged here in the Philippines, there hasn't been reports of them exploding while kids played with them. In fact there have been cases where kids were able to keep the balls clacking against each other over an hour and it still had no issues. But inevitably where was a problem, lesser experienced users of the toy often had their forearms being bruised by the balls trying to clack them. One parent had to improvise with a cardboard tube that fits on their daughter's arm just so it protects them. Today there aren't much of them seen anymore, and I don't really know why. (I'm not up to date) But I can speculate it's because parents and neighborhoods got sick and tired of the loud noises that the Clackerballs made. In the morning, noon, and evening all you hear are "clackclackclackclack" and it was so loud you can hear it from the other block. And large groups of kids played with them so it was a mix of just noise... The Philippines has all kinds of illegal toys made and sold in the past like toy butterfly knives and even alarm clocks designed like real improvised explosives. But that awful noise from the Clackerballs should make it illegal.

Okay I gotta point something out about the Aqua Dots case since that incident really fascinates me. In Australia, where I live, they were called Bindeez, and they actually won the Toy of the Year award before their recall because of how incredibly popular they were. The thing is, the glue in the beads being harmful was NOT meant to happen. The manufacturers were given the instructions and ingredients for making the beads, but someone thought it would be a good idea to swap the original (Non-toxic) glue ingredient for a cheaper alternative, without notifying the brand/distributor. This cheaper ingredient, however, was the one which metabolises into GHB when ingested. Yes, it can be argued that small colourful beads are inevitably a hazard for ingestion by small children, but they would not have caused nearly as much damage if not for the cost-cutting done at the factory. I recommend reading up on the incident; there's a really good article that tells the story of how Australian doctors discovered the link between these sick children and the beads.
