Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. In this video, we’re going to be discussing the top TEN most powerful wands in the Harry Potter series.
“A wand is the object through which a witch or wizard channels his or her magic. It is made from wood and has a magical substance at its core. Wands made by Ollivander have cores of phoenix feather, unicorn hair or dragon heartstring, and are of varying woods, lengths and flexibilities.”
Essentially, no witch or wizard, no matter how powerful, is complete without their wand. That includes powerful wizards like Snape, Dumbledore and Voldemort. After a wand has been chosen for them, it becomes a vital part of their existence. The wand and caster establish an almost symbiotic relationship. Though ultimately the power of a respective witch or wizard does come down to,well, the inherent power of that witch or wizard- a wand CAN still have an impact. There have been instances where there are incredibly powerful wizards with painfully average wands, and also instances where incredibly weak wizards have had incredibly powerful wands. A powerful wand in the hands of an untalented witch or wizard is not any more powerful than a regular wand, but in the right hands, in the hands of someone who can tap in to the true potential of the wand-it can be exceedingly powerful.
In this video, I’m going to be discussing the 10 MOST POWERFUL wands, at least as far as what we can derive from the Harry Potter books / films. This list in no way ranks the power of the respective witch or wizard, just their wand. So without further ado, let’s get things started:

@@nickgennady you freaking kidding me Dobby was so kind, and he was treated terribly by the Malfoys. He was killed trying to save his friends and was hero, and even though the knife stabed him while Apperating he kept going until he and his friends were at the Shell Cottage it might be a fictional world but it is still sad and you saying that makes you a definite Muggle who if ever was a wizard would be in Slytherin. Don't mean to be rude but what the fudge?

The book was painful because it provided more detail but the movie was even more painful because you get to actually see it happen with your own eyes and that my friend is not fun at all reading about a death in a great story then watching it in the movie version is very much upsetting so I hope you know what I mean now about Dobby's death

Considering that Voldemorts wand was made of Yew once again shows how carefully J.K Rowling researched while writing. The Yew is known to be toxic, and can cause death due to cardiac arrest, which in some ways resemble death due to the Avada cadavra curse. I find it hard to believe that that should be a coincidence!

Here in lil’ old Scotland, Yew is supposed to represent Flexibility, Fairy magic, Murder, and the Ability to be Cruel. Also, in fables, Fairies kidnap and torture children.

@@rhysfielding8171 Dumbledore beat Grindelwald fairly and in the ootp in the books Dumbldedore was controlling the fight and it wasn't even close and he was also fighting purely defensive so the Aurors and Minister would know he's back while Voldermort was fighting with the intent to kill Voldermort also shot 4 killing curses and Dumbledore countered them every time which is supposed to be an unblockable spell and i also think everyone should put Grindelwald above Voldermort as well since he confronted a wandless Grindelwald and tried to use Legimency on him and Grindelwald laughed in his face and mocked him showed how powerful he was and also when he was confronted by them he fought about 25 of them and almost destroyed Paris without even trying and while Voldermort was encountered with the Aurors he ran I just put they're interchangeable bcuz so many ppl bitch about it

I think Voldemorts and Harry's wands were completely the same, but with opposite affinities. Voldemort' wand was able to easily conjure and complete insanely dark magic, while Harry's wand was able to easily produce magic that can counteract the dark magic casted by Voldemorts own wand. The twin cores were more than a coincidence.

They weren't exactly the same. Voldemort's was Yew, phoenix feather core, 13½ inches Harry's was Holly, Phoenix feather, 11 inches But you're right about the fact that they were opposites. Voldemorts being easily capable to do dark magic, and Harry's to counteract it

Uto Resa 519 I don’t think it’s raw I think it’s just how naturally intelligent and stuff, like people in the muggle world there are people like Einstein when it comes to intelligence, and look at people who’s are fighters, some people are just naturally more powerful and skilled while others have to work harder to get to that level

With the exception of the Elder Wand, which had some special capabilities, I believe, there's very little difference between the power level of all the other wands mentioned. What matters is the relation between wand and wizard. And in some rare cases between two wands. I think we can assume that all the wands made by Ollivander are high quality wands - There's no such thing as one being distinctly more powerful than the other. It all depends on whether each wand gets paired with the right witch or wizard.

Speculative top 10 1) Elderwand (Thestral core + Elder wood) 2) Salazar Slytherin Wand (Baselisk core + Snakewood). 3) Dumbledores original wand (you see it in the promotional photos for the first fantastic beasts movie, and i would wager that its a Pheonix core and Ebony wood wand) 4) Voldemorts wand (Pheonix core + Yew) 5) Harry Potters wand (Pheonix core + Holly) 6) Merlins wand (english oak wood, unknown core - probably Baselisk core) 7) Lucious Malfoys wand (Dragon Heartstring + elm) 8) Bellatrix's wand (Dragon Heartsting + Black Walnut) 9) Credence Barebone Wand (Ebony + unknown core - probably Dragon core) 10) Neville longbottoms 2nd wand (unicorn core + cherry) Grindelwalds original wand probably up there too.

I would have put Moody's wand at number 2. Moody was an incredibly accomplished duelist and Dark Wizard hunter. That wand has seen some crazy battles.

@@snob252 A wand is a tool to channel magic, however certain woods make for more powerful wands and if I'm not mistaken certain wands tend to take on characteristics of their owners. I think Moody's wand for how often he used it would definitely be powerful enough on its own to make the list.

like Voldemort says, when he gets the elder want, he does amazing magic because he is amazing wizard, not because of the elder wand itself. Same goes for wizard's wands. Great wizards do great .. because they are great ... their wand just fits them .. Snape's wand may not be great in Luna's hands. And it seems you talk more about the wizards (coz all the wizards u talked about are great wizards) than the wands. As u say, we don't even know what dumbledore's wand is, so it's just speculation. The really one powerful wand is the elder wand ... all other wands should be equivalent in power ? Why for exemple Olivander make more powerful wands than others ? for his shop, what would be the point ? And would he make a wand that's good for inflicting pain ? I don't think so ...

I always wondered how voldemort got his original wand back after he was deafeted in Godric's Hollow. Wouldn't it be completly destoryed after the house basicly blew up?And even the wand would have survived this night, how did voldemort or wormtail acquire it?

Not really... The elder wand didnt belong to Voldemort. It belonged to harry as malfoy jr took it from dumbledore by disarming him and harry form him.. So the elder wand didnt have it's owner using it

I think if they are translated then it has the same effect as in the goblet of fire when Krum is bewitched he is instructed to kill cederic and casts green blasts at him and I’m assuming it’s Avada kadavra but he’s speaking a Scandinavian based language (Bulgarian I’m assuming) so I guess the spells the same jsut said a different way

I think the trick with the Elder Wand is that from a brute force standpoint, none can match it, but someone can still out-skill you.

Oh I know that. Let's put Harry and someone with equal power and greater skill. If Harry can't brute force his way to a win, the Elder Wand would have to resort to judging by skill, and so it would recognize that greater skill. Brute force is but one way of measuring power.

Hey, you guys know how voldy riddle was raised as a muggle kinda like Harry? Well, Harry had the Weasly's and Hagrid to take him to Kings Cross. I know Tom was introduced to the wizarding world by Dumbledore, but i don't think he would bring Tom to kings cross each year from the orphanage or else he would have to do that to each muggle born witch/wizard... Plus, Tom had no parents, and no real close friends, so my point is, How did Tom Riddle get to Platform 9 3/4 each year?

Yes, but the orphanage is supposedly oblivious of the magical world. If they took him, they would definitely keep watch on him, considering he bullied other kids. If they saw him just disappear, and turn up a year later, it would for sure make them suspicious. And obviously, Hogwarts would sent him a letter/ticket, as they do that for each student. But who TAKES him to buy them? And okay, that's a fair guess, it could've been right next to Kings Cross, but what about Diagon Alley? I really can't see it to be RIGHT next to both, or else that would just be lucky

@@madworld8422 I would say the wand determines how much of a wizard's power is unlocked. It's like plumbing. The most amount of water flows through the largest pipe, and the Elder Wand is the largest magical pipe available for a wizard.

I’m not sure if this is true but I heard a theory in which the wand that is shown in the fantastic beast movie wasn’t his original wand, but a wand that Dumbledore and Grindelward found when looking for the elder wand. One that has a unique and somewhat resemblances to the elder wand. Again I’m not sure of the validity of this theory but it does sound somewhat legitimate. A wand made to replicate the elder wand would have similar power, albeit weaker, but in the right hands could enable the wizard to overpower someone with the elder wand.

I got a kinda weird theory. For the movie version Harry destroyed the elder wand. I would think a wand that powerful wouldn't let itself be destroyed willingly. I think the only reason Harry was able to do it is because he is a descendant of the Peverell Brothers who made the Hallows in the first place. Or perhaps it's just like any other piece of wood and can be snapped by anybody. Pretty sound theory either way I think lol but only works for the movie. Since in the books he returned it to Dumbledore's grave to be forgotten and lost forever.

I'm pretty sure all of them Marauders were killed either by or at the request of the Dark Lord.... Snape was aswell but not in the same manner. Snape did not fight back nor was he afraid to die... definitely makes him one of the most powerful ever... I mean he tricked LV into believing he was his man..

I think several wand's were forgotten, most notably the wand of Salazar Slytherin/Isolt Sayre which is the only other wand that deserves a place on this list as it has passed through many extraordinarily powerful wizards just like the elder wand. It is much more worthy of the #2 spot then Dumbledore's wand.

I have several wand-related questions for which I've not yet found answers: 1) Why did all the Death Eaters cringe when Voldy was saying he needed a wand? Wasn't it just to be a loaner, to kill Harry? Or did this imply their wand would be forever taken? 2) Did Harry ever get his original wand magically fixed? Or could he take Voldy's "twin" wand instead? 3) Why would a wizard's wand be buried with him, as in the case of Dumbledore? Additionally, why would Dumbledore, or anyone who knew that was the Elder Wand, allow it to be buried with him, where it was ripe for stealing? Not to mention that it was such an incredible artifact. 4) Harry disarmed Draco, which he said made him the master of the Elder Wand, but shouldn't the Elder Wand actually be used during the conflict where its owner was defeated? (Come to think of it, Dumbledore allowed himself to be disarmed - does that even count?) 5) Just why DID Harry destroy the Elder wand? Fear of temptation? Even if he refused to use it, hid it in the Room of Requirement or whatever... seems destroying it was a huge waste of a remarkable artifact. Not to mention it was connected to Dumbledore.

I personally think that Harry's wand post mending by the elder wand would become, at the very least, the second most powerful wand (I also wonder with Harry's intention not to use the Elder Wand, that its powers my have somehow transferred into the Phoenix Wand when it was mended.). After back to back readings of the entire series my head is full of peculiar questions. I also wonder if the fact of Harry being a Horcrux in some ways had hampered his natural magical abilities. Harry being of the powerful Peverell line (much in the manner of Molly Weasley being a Pruitt, and possessing the power to stomp the floor with Bellatrix.) It seems once the horcrux was lifted from his own soul that he became much more focused and self assured during the final battle.

Am I the only one who noticed that the fact about Dobby suffering/dying at the hand of bellatrix’s wand is incorrect, Dobby was killed by a dagger bellatrix threw at him as he disapperated from the Malfoy manor. ( no hate though, I love your channel)

The Elder wand is a cunning and perfidy dark artifact. It's never loyal to its wielder when their is someone more powerful to them. That's why Grindelwald didn't/couldn't defeat Dumbledore and why no matter how Tom used the wand it would reluctantly obey him when it wanted Harry

my favorite theory on dumbledores wand is that it was the 3rd Peveral brother's wand. A brother wand to the elder wand, made with the same thestral's hair as the elderwand. I also like the theory that Dumbledore's wand is Rowan wood.

Harry’s wand was more powerful than Voldemort’s. They had twin cores, but there’s many examples of Harry’s wand defeating Voldemort’s despite Voldemort being a much more powerful wizard at the time. I think that is because of the wand wood.

My wand according to Pottermore is Rowan wood with a dragon heartstring core at 12 1/2 inches long. And after reading up about the wood and the core, I'd meet Harry's Holly wood and phoenix feather wand in a duel any day.

Rowan is also my favorite wood wand but according to pottermore I’m a pine. I love the Rowan coz it chooses pure hearted wizards and it’s defensive spells and charms are hard to break. I totally believe that you would be more than a match for Harry’s wand.

@@juliie007 Thanks Julie. I also forgot to mention that my wand has quite bendy flexibility. So not only can it produce very powerful spells but it also is capable to adapting to new kinds of spells much faster than most other wands. I got myself quite the keeper.

I’v reed all of the Harry Potters books and seen all the HP movies. I have a question, for another wizard to use another’s ward in HP law is you must win their wand from them by dueling, to wield that wizards wand. So how could the elder wand be so powerful in Grindelwald’s hand when he stole the wand. Not winning the elder wants or the wand not choosing him which is HP wizard law? Alex T. I think it is very difficult to measure the power of a wand by the user. There are only 3 wands mentioned as immensely powerful in the books. Harry's, Voldy's and the elder wand. Pottermore mentions that the wand of Salazar was powerful and the one forged by the muggle out of the serpent horn was powerful enough in it's own right to do magic when wielded by a muggle.

I just saw your how Dumbledore "blocked" Avada Kedevra (sorry for the spelling) so you can't block the curse but in the movies there are lots of times where Harry and even Albus are like in a "wand lock" I guess with Voldemort and it's just Avad pushing against Expelio is that consider "blocking" and is it just something from the movies?
