Follow these tips and you can minimize or eliminate the spit! Let us know how you want to use the cop-proof block! They are EXTREMELY sensitive to various factors so stay dry my friends :)
I think you may have overlooked the positioning of the player camera (which is at head level) in your testing with the crown blocks. I noticed that every time your characters head was exposed/visible through the gap of the crown blocks, the cops spit. But every time your head was higher than the gaps of the crown blocks, essentially having your characters chest visible through the gaps while characters head was covered, the cops didn't spit. Edit: In your outro, where you state that they spit at the triangle blocks, they we're actually spitting at your head and not the triangle plates. Once they fill into your trap area, that's when they can see your characters head! This is also why it seemed that the cops don't like you standing on the half blocks. Standing on a half block positioned your characters head to be lined up perfectly with the gap between the crown blocks. In conclusion, the crown blocks only work to prevent spit when the player characters head/camera position is not visible to the cops. So it would seem that all the block shapes that head the characters head and still trigger cop spit are actually just broken, while for whatever reason, the crown blocks are working as intended.
@@Cynical_Finch You are correct! I later confirmed that after others had mentioned it. I included that bit of info in our 100 tips video about a month ago. Thanks for sharing the info :)
I build my bases using full cubes to keep them from seeing me at all until they are in melee range. At which point they don't actually bother spitting, and simply beat up my fighting position while I shoot them in the face.
Amazing work to find out all of this. I'm positive at this point that you did more testing for this video than all the testing I did throughout college! Way to give those annoying cops some anti-nausea medication! Taco, I can't even imagine how many clips you had to work with to make this awesome video. I shall raise my glass and perform a toast to the loss of your sanity
Lol that would be rather frightening for both of our sakes! You definitely spotted that detail, there were many recordings I gave taco to edit. Don't worry, she kept her sanity by draining mine :D
Really appreciate all the hard work you are doing in testing Pseudo Posse! It is very time consuming and detailed work. I recall several Alphas ago that I could use dirt blocks to clad my bases as cop spit could damage them only a very tiny amount as the devs didn't want them puking the world into Swiss cheese. My bases were ugly but very tough against cop spit lol. ;D
Thanks for all your hard work, and dedication!! Very valuable information! Also wondering, if you used one of those "no cop puke" crown moldings behind the fighting position, and one block lower, would they see it as a half block then? Looked like it would put you at right height for some head shots
Absolutely, we are happy to do so! That is an interesting thought! That might work to give the right elevation for head shots. I'll have to test that out immediately haha. Thanks!
@@pseudoposse sure hope you post your findings lol. I've never even tried to get into "creative mode", else i would have been able to test stuff out also. Well, there's only so many tricks old dogs can learn. Keep up the great work!
@@kevinknutson6621 No problem! Alas I did test it out and it didn't work. Cops still spit at me. Not sure if any block will work. In my original tests, I even tried out storage chests and other things but still saw the spit.
Thanks for the upload: it inspired me to do my own tests. In my tests it didn't matter what shapes were above and below me. The only thing that stopped puke was putting full blocks between me and the cops. Side note: putting a shape they spit at on the outside of a full block will make them spit. Only tested with blocks I use, I don't care about a fancy looking base, just a functional one. Also during my test cops didn't spit until they were within 15 blocks and usually didn't spit if I spawned them closer than 13. Best bet is build a barrier around your base but not connect to your base that will block their view until they are close. (asphalt is a good option if you have a mixer)
That's awesome, happy to inspire others to test! I've definitely can corroborate that at times, blocks above don't matter as in a recent video I did, I had non cube blocks above me and they didn't spit. But that could be cuz those blocks are safe, or some other unknown reason. They are very finnicky.
Cops will spit as soon as they can look you in the eyes. If they walk straight up to you the crone things work, cause you only see theyr belly. You can see it in the video, the cops walk up the stairs, on the upper end of the stairs they cas see the head of the player and spit. On top they dont see players head so dont spit.
yo great video ill be recommending these series to all my console friends to get a sneak peek at what's ahead for the console version , i really hope console comes with mod support
maybe the reason is cuz u cant stick ur face out of the window.. u know like in minecraft.. if a creeper see u face it can detonate but if it doesnt see ur face it wont explode in a mob farm..
@1:10 "Hatches are EXTREME Cop Bait, but only if placed such that if opened you'd be in the line of sight" Huh, who would have thought that cops could shoot at you through an open door? (waits for everyone to realize what's been going on)
You're an absolute wealth of knowledge! It's been bothering me for so long, now I have just resorted to brute force lol! I am definitely going to borrow a bunch of these ideas for my own tests and bases. At least the pursuit of finding what works is not boring at all! And neither are your videos! Love it!
The knowledge comes from lots of grinding and testing :D I find it interesting to solve mysteries like this, so glad you enjoyed! Go forth and incorporate these ideas into your builds!
Did you try the Wedge Ramp for to lower and adjust floor height. You can walk up and down the ramp to the desired fighting height. Love TocoBear's montages!
I am pretty sure I tried various wedge ramps. Like I said in the video, there were more tests than what was shown. But if memory serves me correctly, I believe I did. And thanks! Taco always loves compliments to her editing!
Bro, awesome 7d2d work aside... "thank you" for not using the Guerche song as I have been unable to get it out of my head from your previous vids. It's too catchy!!!
Taco absolutely loved reading your comment haha! She is very particular in the details/music she includes so she always is happy to see it pointed out. Taco loves that song and originally included it in this video but switched it out last minute lol. You're welcome!
You should be doing every single horde night in the crouched position because you can get sneak bonus damage on zombies. It can be completely random but free damage is free damage
Occasionally the non-pathing 'simple A.I.' zombies will be hit with sneak damage. They seem to be considered to have *lost target* briefly.@@TheSighphiguy
What Peter said is true, sometimes when you have a lot of zombies on screen, the AI will have a hard time keeping them all locked on target. Sometimes you will see a zombie just stand still for 5-10 seconds before it remembers 'oh yea, its horde night, i'm supposed to go to the player now'
Very Interesting, i like watching 7dtd videos that test block shapes and their creative uses so this video is very great for me! I think the cop not seeing your head makes them not spit in the small window(crown corner block) , you raising the small window made your head visible and maybe thats why they started spitting even though you are standing on full cube blocks? Pretty sure cautious pancake 7dtd youtuber found the scafladders first and then jawoodle heard about it through his comments and played around with in his videos.
So when I raised the crown blocks by one, it was just the presence of non-cube blocks I placed beneath that caused the spit. I did a test, not included in the video, in which I stood there with no blocks, just the floor ones, and they didn't spit. Crouching has no effect on their spitting. You can stand and they won't spit assuming all the conditions are met. Is that so? I was under impression Jawoodle found the scaffold block but I could be wrong.
Great video! Inspired me to do a little testing myself. The gun safe on its back seems to work for me. It drops you just a tad bit lower. Maybe some blocks that are most of a full block work?
That is awesome, glad to inspire! Thanks for the testing :) It certainly could be possible. I did test some other options but none had worked for me. Didn't test the gun safe though. If that works, there are probably more!
Great job! This is a lot of good info. It just sucks that there are so many new block shapes but we can't use them. So not only do we all have to use one of the same few set ups but we also have to have a plain ugly block to fight from. *sigh* The Fun Police strike again.
Thanks! I find their ability to spit at you while you are fully enclosed because one block happens to be thinner or has a curvature, or whatever, to be very illogical and hampering. Here is hoping this is a bug!
No I'm betting TFPs deliberately make them spit at blocks they know people use the most for horde bases. They are slowly eliminating all 'fun' from the game by pitting themselves against the content creators. Which means also against ALL players. @@pseudoposse
@@pbsixgun6 There could be some deliberation there but I hope it isn't all intentional as it is far too restrictive now I feel. Could be wrong and this may be the way it is for alpha 21 at least.
I have blocks they puke at right in front of me and that's the only blocks that take damage from cops. I put plate blocks of steel all around on the second block up to keep regular zombies from wanting to stop to beat on them on the way to some stairs. It's 5x5x5 of solid steel blocks but even with that they'd still stop short to beat on the sides until I put those plate blocks over it. They will occasionally beat on my pathway but I shoot them. I'm not standing over those so the cops don't heave at those I guess. I have a couple of hatches inside with me that never take any damage. I like to make bases where I can kill as many as I can as fast as I can. I was hitting 1200 a horde night in alpha 20 but alpha 21 I'm doing good to hit 650. They slowed down something - don't know what.
I don't know what it's like now but it used to be if you had a large amount of them in tight quarters they'd do additional AOE damage to surrounding blocks. You'd see blocks just disappear with no zombies hitting it. I haven't seen anything like that with alpha 21 - I think it's been nerfed way down or maybe it's not like that at all.
Yeah if you are putting plate blocks all over your base, that will be a huge cop magnet. Zombies in tight quarters definitely thrash around and do AOE damage. Pretty sure they still do.
They altered the A.I. to 'dumb down' some of the zombies during horde nights to improve performance. Those are the ones that are stopping to beat on things randomly. It slows the entire horde down if they do it and block OTHER zombies while doing so....also causing them to beat on random blocks.
So designing the base with cop spit in mind seems to be extremely annoying and the cops are divas. Maybe decoys designed to attract the spit instead of the main base could give us our artictic freedom back. Thanks for researching the topic.
Cops are definitely divas, very accurate description. Decoys could probably work but they'd need to last long enough to be meaningful and worth the resources to make.
@@pseudoposse Decoys have no structural significance. They don't need to last. They just have to be cheap. Same properties as ablative armor - but you could place them so they direct attacks away from the base. Only question is: Do they work? Can you just plop down some cop vomit attracting blocks and they will target them instead of the base?
Pusedo Posse Yeah!!! Bringing us some more invaluable game enhancing tips and tricks not found anywhere on the YTubes. Thank for all your time and work making our game play better.
Have you tried placing the crownblocks so the slit is not horizontal but vertical? In the video the opening is 2 blocks wide, lets make them 2 blocks high. I suspect the cops will see your face and spit but who knows. EDIT Looking at Cynical Finch's comment it wont work, as your head is exposed.
Knowing this will help me in the future. For now I just accept a certain amount of splash damage and repair accordingly. I used to use the pole corner blocks as they would stop all cop spit like the scaffold ladder block, but that changed in a21 (less effective now). TFP wants everyone to play in concrete cubes of boring it would seem.
It would seem so lol. There are other shapes you can use that cops won't spit at but the full cube shapes are definitely safest. But I cannot stick with just them as they are just too boring.
Hey Pseudo, any advice for someone who sucks with building bases? What would you suggest as I find myself making the same base with the same block style... I've been watching your videos and am interested in using different blocks as they are interesting especially the way you've built bases. Any suggestions?
Absolutely! I would recommend you take a look at some pictures of something you want to build. Not necessarily 7 days to die images, but just pictures of whatever. Like a castle, or a bridge, or a log cabin, you name it. Then try to replicate it as best as possible. It will force you to look through all the block shapes and experiment to achieve the look you need. Otherwise, you have no incentive to ever look at the other shapes. Start with something simple to not overwhelm yourself from the start and just go from there. In our videos, we usually call out the blocks we use in a particular build. So I'd also recommend just noting down the specific block shapes you like and try to mess around with them yourself.
You're a life saver. I'm trying to play some of the total conversation mods for A21 that are out. In District Zero all the robots with guns would constantly shoot the base. In Sorcery, the enemy sorcs would constantly fireball the base. I'm guessing both use the cop AI as their foundation. With how powerful these modded enemies are, it made the mods nearly unplayable on horde night. Ugly cube base here I come! At least now I can play these mods beyond day 6 (I always play permadeath). Appreciate all the hard work you put into this - you're also very good at explaining the outcomes while making it entertaining to watch.
Happy to save lives 😁. I would not be surprised if they were using the cop ai. Cube blocks definitely are safest but some others can be used in certain ways as shown here.
if the crown corner pieces stop cop spit, is it blocking their 'sight'? if so, would this kind of base also stop screamers from seeing you? if so i could see these pieces being used as base barriers you can exploit, and if you're playing darkness falls, maybe even against demon firespit, too
what if, instead of trying to use 1/2 blocks in the base, you had the half blocks to the pathing? so they would walk across at the right height to line up with your crown corner bunker.. or do they spit at the pathing when there's 1/2 blocks on it?
I know I am late to comment on this video but it seems when they can see your head (aka you can see them) they are spitting. Watched this video multiple times and every time they don't spit its because only your lower body is showing.
I am pretty sure when I used the crown corner shapes, that I did tests just standing up in which they didn't spit. Can't recall if that made it into the video, but I'll have to retry to see if they do or not
Yes, I do believe that this is correct. Cops will always spit when their eyes meet yours, irregardless of which block is used. A21 also notably has a glitch in which blocks that are solid to bullets, but non-solid to explosions (in terms of entity damage) are also able to be seen through by cops. Which is causing much of the mass confusion. I did my own extensive tests months ago and arrived at these conclusions.
Haven't finished the video yet but have you tried lowering the floor by 1...using full cube blocks for floor ...but then putting chests on top of the cube blocks for you to stand on.
@@pseudopossedon't think the chest would have a different outcome since it's technically not a block? You could always lay down a bicycle or two and stand on those.
@@eatthecrow4113 I actually did try a chest but didn't show it in the final video but didn't work. The bicycle is a good idea! That could possibly work.
Zombies just destroyed my two chem benches through solid concrete and steel blocks 😂 they were on the second floor and the zombies were on the first floor ! So yeah i think im done with 7days to die until they fix it lol. After 765.6 hrs of gameplay and base collapses you'd think id learn my lesson with this game.
My best advice would be to never place chem stations or anything valuable near a position in which it is in the potential line of fire. I never fight anywhere close to my valuables. I think with that adjustment, you won't need to quit the game as I doubt the devs will change that behavior any time soon. Good luck!
@@pseudoposse yeah I just had to go back in for more punishment me and this game have a complex relationship to say the least this time I'm making enough concrete to completely make sure they can't get my stuff it took a few hours but I finally got back to full base strength let's see how they wreck my shit this time 😂
This feels like Devs hardcorded some Blocks into the behaviour of cops which popular to be used in player positions. I find this i very unintuitive, it breaks the logic that half, quarter etc. have the same "hit points" as full blocks. it would be OK if this is consistent and quarter blocks have only a quarter of the hitpoints and need a quarter of the resources. You put so much work into this, how is a player supposed to find this out in survival mode ?
It definitely feels that some blocks have different behavior despite them completely blocking line of sight. Whether is unintentional or not, it does restrict building options. It definitely would be tricky to test all this out in survival mode. It took long enough as is in creative mode :)
wasn´t one of the old cop spit logics - the cop must not see your face. this would mean its not the half block causing the spit but rather the player being lower.
Wait so cops don't see you when crouching behind crown moldings? It's like crouching is working as expected 😂 Cheers for a great video and be good to see if crouching behind s ladders works too?
Haha unfortunately the crouching has nothing to do with hiding. They won't see you whether you crouch or stand. The only reason for the crouching is to get a better view out of the crown corners to shoot/melee/throw stuff.
Be great to test later if standing vs crouching behind a partial block they don't target, especially if we can see them plus they can see us in the testing. Really love the testing videos
@@ozspoz1317 I can definitely try it out but based on my previous testing, I don't that that will matter much. Would be cool if it did thus making stealth that much more important.
