octavia's character development and storyline is one if not the most complex and well made in the history of tv. i'm kind of obsessed so i might write something to explain ok so to explain her character. when she was young, she lived in a space station because the earth had an apocalypse. in space you could only have one child, but her mom had two children; bellamy, her older brother and her. she was forced to live in one room for 17years, never leaving that room. until she got caught and her mother was killed for having a second child and octavia was put in prison since she was under 18. in the first episode of the 100 the underage criminals where sent to ground: the earth wasn't supposed to be he okay in another 100 years BUT the life support on the space station was failing so they sacrificed the kids to make more time for the others. however we find out that there are survivors on the ground which are called grounders. they immediately were at war. in the first season, octavia was called "the girl under the floor". octavia was a basic teen, who wanted to actually live for the first time. she was always bending the rules a little bit, but she had a good heart and she was smart. she was the first one to make contact with the grounders, she fell in love with this guy lincoln, and they tried to make peace together. lincoln also teaches octavia how to fight. season 2 showed MAJOR character development for octavia. in about half way of the season, trikru, one of the clans of the grounders, make peace with our people from the sky, because we have a mutual enemy. when skaikru and trikru start training together for the future war, octavia is the first one to actually try and fight a grounder (to train). she gets her ass kicked, but everytime she stands back up. trikrus war chief named indra sees this, and decides to mentor octavia. in her own words; "but you did not give up. strength of spirit like that is rare it MUST be guided". she starts training her, and octavia becomes a great warrior. at the end of season 2, indra says "octavia kom trikru" which is octavia from trikru in english, meaning indra accepts octavia as one of them, trikru. this is amazing for octavia, since she has never felt at home anywhere. she has always been an outcast. she continues to fight for what she believes is right, and makes a huge difference for the better. she gets a lot of recognition from trikru as the "skygirl" in season three, lincoln dies. this sends octavia on a dark path. there was a war going on so she tells her self "a warrior doesn't mourn the dead until the war is over". this leads to her suppressing her feelings. at the end of season three, she brutally murders the killer of lincoln. this really sends her character to a gray area: she used to be the one almost always in the right, she fought for what is right. but what is right and wrong isn't so clear anymore. this dude kane actually told her "justice and vengeance are not the same thing" which she replies to "for me they are". in season 4 octavia starts to be the word in the street, she often goes by "skairipa", death from above. at this point she is one of the best fighters on the earth, and her morals are being questioned, making her very dangerous. she is still very much grieving after lincolns death, and starts to act out. after doing a couple things like assasinations here and there, attempted suicide etc, she decides to stop fighting. she goes to live on the countryside, and starts living peacefully with this guy she likes. this doesn't last long though, since the world is basically going to end again and we only have one bunker where there's only room for like 1200 people. there are 12 clans with like tens of thousands of people. to decide which clan gets to keep the bunker, they decide to have this fight where one person from each clan fights until all but one person are dead, and that is whose clan gets to keep the bunker. octavia decides to fight. she wins, but instead of giving it to skaikru, she decides that we are all human, and that we are going to share it. in her words "we are all one crew (wonkru) and we will survive praimfaya (apocalypse), ogeda (together). every clan gets to save 100 people and they do that. octavias brother and closest friends couldn't make it to the bunker tho l, they go to space instead. now octavia is alone and she is supposed to rule 12 clans who hate each other, FOR 5 YEARS until the earth is survivable again. season 5 really shows some complexity to her character, which isn't new. at the start of this season, we had almost a six year time jump. we get to see octavia, and everyone is shocked. she is so different, and she is still stuck in the bunker. we find out that the building above it collapsed on them and they were stuck there. we see the bunker, there is like fighting pits and the place looks terrifying. eventually we get out of the bunker, but we can notice octavia is different, and so is the whole wonkru. during the season we get flashbacks of what happened during the 6 years. basically octavia was forced to lead these people and she lost her mind doing it. they ran out of food at one point, which made them resort to cannibalism. the problem was that the people didn't voluntarily eat their friends and family. not eating would have resulted in wars, killing, crimes etc, all of which we have seen before in the the space. octavia knows what would happen, so she takes away their choice. "eat or die". if you didn't eat, you were killed and eaten. people started eating, but the thing is, they had someone to blame. they didn't have a choice but to not to eat, so they could easily blame octavia. that's how wonkru stayed sane while eating their friends and family. octavia didn't have anyone to blame. the cannibalism, ruling, enforcing the fighting pit, thinking his brother is dead, and not knowing if they could ever get out of the bunker eventually made her a bit insane. "she bore it so they didn't have to". during the season octavia became one of the main villains; although she had wonkrus best interest in mind, her ways of getting there weren't that good. she started wars, killed people, killed her own people, burned all of their food, and eventually caused the world to end, again. the whole season of it's a constant psychological fight with octavia, and we clearly see some alarming signs, like self harm, no regard to her own safety, mood swings etc. she doesn't care about staying alive anymore. she is absolutely lost. she is called "blodreina", the queen of cannibals. wonkru stayed loyal to her almost the entire time, they adored her for saving them during the dark year. at the end of season 5, wonkru turns it's back on octavia as it starts to lose the war. season 6 was a great season for her. at the start of the season she is still very much fighting with her dark side, she is very suicidal and still a kind of villain. it actually looks to be going worse, she is really going through a lot. after a lot of shit which i don't wanna explain tho octavia and this diyoza woman go through this anomaly, it's like this weird green light (oh we are on another planet at this point) where everyone who has gone has never came back. due to some hallucinations diyoza goes there and octavia rans after her. however, after a few seconds, octavia runs back from the light, almost like running from something. we don't know what happened in there yet and octavia has no memories of this. this cute guy gives her these hallucination drugs to find out what happened to her. instead of finding out where she went, she has this cool ass fight with herself, realizing that she has been so lost. she fights with her past self, blodreina and ends up winning, killing her dark side which has been in control for too long. the rest of the season she goes on this full redemption arc. in season 7 we find out that when she didn't just spend a few seconds in the green light; she was actually there for years. the anomaly led to a different planet (cool science stuff don't question it) and basically she was an aunt and had been living like 6 years with diyoza and diyozas kid (diyoza was pregnant past two seasons) in peace. that's why it was so easy to get rid of her dark side and that why there was a sudden change in her character. in season 7 octavia continues on being a badass and fights hella people for what is right and actually unites all the people from the different planets for the last time, which actually saved the human race from extinction because these alien people would've killed them anyways yeah octavia is a fucking badass please watch more videos of her
Octavia Blake is without question the BEST character on the 100.....and some of the best character development I've ever seen out of any character in any show. The actress Marie Avergopoulos deserves some emmy's for her amazing portrayal of Octavia. For all the truama Octavia faced it's incredible she remained such a truly good person.
Yes, she killed her dark side (blodreina) in a kind of dream in season 6 (I think it was season 6 or it was season 5, not sure). It was her path of redemption.
