One of the lesser known organized crime groups that operated in South Philadelphia over the years is the 10th and Oregon Crew. They are a tale of two different stories that came face to face with the Philly Mob and Joey Merlino and other groups like the Pagans that led to some wild stories during their time on the street.

A story I heard was that the 10th & Oregon gang was ready to go to war with the Riccobenes in the mid-1970s when Harry got out of jail. Harry went to Bruno and asked for permission to whack some of the gang members but Bruno called a sit down and settled the dispute without bloodshed.

Question Jeff - I’ve heard some people say the mob was a ‘secret society’, and a made guy can’t even tell another made guy that he’s a made guy unless a mutual made guy introduced them But if this is all true, how do we hear about guys who ‘aspired to be made’, or that they were treated differently by everyone (including normal people) after getting made
