That's the reason why most people don't follow up on their new years resolution. It is better to set monthly goals, if not weekly.

I found a solution, I created a weekly goal instead of new year resolution, I started in February. I was so happy to see that someone backed up the idea with science.

So refreshing to see such a clear, succinct, and helpful summary of a great system. I use a modified version of this scheduling/execution system in my own work and life. I wish that many of the books themselves were as clear and succinct as this presentation is, instead of belaboring a point or putting a lot of filler in the book, or conveying things on more of an intellectual level vs. a practical level. Hats off, Nathan. This was great.

O.P.S. = Own resluts, Plan key stone actions, keep Score of executions Burn your boats (Excuses) - Why planning is essential: -- Save time -- Save energy Divide goal in 12 week goals. Multiple goals per week. Set exponential weekly growth. Combine & condense proven plans to acheive essential goals. Keep score of weekly exocution & Focus on it instead of results. 4 out of 5 weekly tasks = 80% Adjust weekly plan if exocution score is lower than 65%

0:45 : Same graph as a KS campaign. (: 1:00 : Had this at a company that had monthly and quarterly deadlines. Brutal and sometimes led to burnout. 1:30 : Reminds me of playing the victim card. Both excuses and playing the victim card mean you give up control. Deadlines are “good” ways to burn your boats. :P 4:10 : Reminds me of the other video about building a skill in 20 hours - only do what’s essential! 4:55 : Another planning video also said to focus on “Lead Behaviors” (Input metrics), not “Lagging Behaviors” (Output metrics)

mj k you’re 100% correct. I’m currently reading this book, and “coincidentally” this showed up on my feed. It’s obvious that those making the wise cracks aren’t interested in improving, nor have an open mind. It’s a well thought out plan.

I think it's a good idea. However, it demands much time for planning and scoring your progress because every week you would update your plans. I'm not saying it is a bad way of improving and getting our achievements but it's very demanding in time.

I think the video misrepresents some aspects of the book. It is clearly not the stated goal to reach the same goals of a whole year within 12 weeks. This is a guarantee for burnout. What a 12 week year helps with is to identify key tasks ("what's essential?"), define measurable goals and produce some feeling of urgency and focus. This means you can increase productivity but in reality there are often dependencies (think about projects with multiple stakeholders) that will slow you down. Hence, it is always helpful to understand the limitations of any method.

Nobody said you need to accomplish everything in 12 weeks. In fact you can only choose 3 goals to focus on, that’s it. I’m doing the 12 WY now actually and that’s quite liberating and not anxiety provoking. I completely get what you mean though as that was my initial thought as well. But it’s the opposite as you get your mind to relax. You see I’m fairly ambitious and there are so many things I want to do but I hate to feel stressed about it and rushed, which I usually do. I try to do many things at the same time and end up doing none of them (well). A year passes by and you haven’t moved an inch towards your goal. So I thought ok I’m gonna try this. And my experience is that I feel more relaxed, focused and a lot smarter. You will exceed your goals as you become competitive and impatient and already think about the next 12 week period where you will accomplish 3 new goals. In fact, you can’t wait for it BUT you know you have to first prove yourself in period #1. So then you will voluntarily push yourself to complete tasks and form habits within 9 weeks to finish quicker. Habits are already formed after 8 weeks or 4 weeks if you do them everyday or every 2 days. But then if you fail to match your performance in period #2 (let’s say you are not doing the good habit anymore which should actually happen automatically by now without thinking about it but friends or holidays mess up it all up or you feel that you deserve a big reward for your success and fall back in your old patterns which is common) then you have to do it again. And you won’t like that because it will use up 1 of the maximum 3 spots / goals you have. You will be annoyed and will say “no” more often. The best thing about this is, that you can choose your own goals, whatever you want, not what others want from you. Build a strong physique, learn to play a guitar or learn a foreign language. However I do recommend for the first 12 week period that you have goal 1: health: taking care of yourself and goal 2: productivity: keeping score in 12 WY plan. Because without these two, you will fail. I guarantee you. And don’t follow this plan digitally. There are too many distractions online. Print out a A3 format and stick to the wall. You can buy a bundle on Etsy for 12$. Just try it and see for yourself. Good luck. :)

Break out block - 3 hour once a week giving specially to relax and self care .

Most of this video and its message are excellent, and I'm saving it. However..... you lost me on "burn your boats," because the fact is, life happens. What if I land in the hospital with a critical illness or injury, especially one requiring surgery and recovery time, and I can't even function? What if this happens to someone close to me for whom I suddenly need to assume 24/7 caregiver duties? What if someone close to me dies and I need to take time off to attend to all the myriad tasks that accompany such an event (transporting the body, planning the memorial or funeral and all of its logistics, with loved ones coming in and out of town, logistics to deal with, etc). Would you have held a coworker or friend accountable to their $1,000 payment for non-achievement of a goal if they had just lost their spouse or other close family member in the 9/11 disaster? These are just examples of real things that happen to real people every day. It's unfair to be penalized financially or some other way that "hurts" in those situations, as they are not just "excuses." Obviously, the accountability piece makes more sense in situations where it WAS actually just excuses that prevented the goal from being accomplished.
