The 14 year old who mysteriously boarded a train and never returned

I am absolutely gobsmacked at the lack of work by police in this case. It took 27 DAYS to review CCTV at the train station??? And 6 WEEKS to even try to check CCTV nearby???? WTAF they should be ashamed

The idea of his dad showing up to live shows hoping to find his son made me sob. I literally broke down crying. I hope Andrew is okay and i wish for no one to have to go through this, ever.

Kudos to the parents for being so open minded about what might have happened to Andrew, despite the hell they were going through. They genuinely seem like great parents and I hope wherever Andrew is at, it’s peaceful

Nobody just simply “disappears” I honestly believe he was groomed…a predator pretending to be the same age as him persuaded him to meet up in London for the day…don’t worry about a return ticket, my mum/dad will take you home, don’t worry about your PSP charger, I have one, don’t worry about a change of clothes, the less you bring the less obvious it is you’re bunking off school etc. Another case I would love you to cover is that of Claudia Lawrence. She disappeared from my home town of York, North Yorkshire in 2009. Never seen or heard from since.

I can't imagine the sick, sick feeling THE REST OF YOUR LIFE knowing that your child is missing, and compounded by how poorly the police handled your case. I don't know them and I'm on the other side of the planet and it makes me physically hurt.

In my opinion, Andrew knew more about internet than we think. He met someone from online in London.

I think he intended to return home, he barely took anything with him. He withdrew the money from his bank but left the birthday money in his room, if you were running away surely youd take as much money as you could... I think maybe he didn't want his parents to see he took / spent the birthday money in his room, so he withdrew it from his bank as they wouldn't be able to see it. In my opinion he had every intention of returning home. I think he planned to meet someone in London, whether he met them online or even through the uni scheme he attended in the summer. He went to meet someone who lured him in saying they could do something Andrew liked in London and he met with foul play.

Something about his case is very reminiscent to the case of Alicia Navarro. She completely disappeared without a trace at 13 and showed up at 19 in a police station asking to be taken off the missing persons list.

I've watched & read things over the years where parents & siblings have explained that it would actually be preferable for them to locate the child's dead body because that way, at least the family could get some sort of closure ...rather than be left dealing with the perpetual gaping wounds caused by a vanished child.

I'm always looking for this dude when I head out into central London. I scan the homeless or look into crowds. So young and its horrendous to know the family have no answers. Whatever anyone knows about Andrew thar could help let the police, family know. If Andrew is out there then to reach out to Missing Persons, Police, a UK embassy, friend, family. Your family and friends just want to know you're safe. Just like millions of the public 🙏 we are always praying for you 🙏

The parents last remarks are so descriptive that I can horrifyingly imagine what they are going through. Such a sad story.

A teacher of Andrews had killed themselves the week before. I always wondered if that had any relevance

Andrew went to a summer camp and came back really excitable and happy. I have since found out that the summer camp was at Lancaster university which I went to at the same time. He would have been given his own room with a landline phone. The phones also worked on an internal system meaning you could ring anyone on the university for free with no evidence of who you rang or who rang you. Maybe he was groomed by one of the adults or young people there and spent some time talking to him on the internal phone. Nobody would know about the secret relationship and a meeting could be planned quite easily. The fact that he went a different path home makes me wonder if he passed a phone box and could have called the person up to make sure that he wasn’t going to turn up and be on his own in London. I also think he tried to buy time by tricking his parents into thinking that he had come home. I think he knew he would be back late and therefore picked this option. He may also have been a bit confused with the trains as he might have not known what time he was returning and at that time you weren’t allowed to board a train if you were a child during peak times due to it being rush hour and you were using a discounted scheme. I hope police have checked these avenues.

What a shambolic performance by the police!

Andrews case is so haunting because it’s just so unclear and gives you nothing but more questions the more you look into it. The more you focus on one particular possibility the more feasible that one seems, but this happens no matter what outcome you examine with each of the main possibilities all having points supporting and against them. God help his parents they have such amazing strength.

I remember this case. I've always wondered what happened to him because it was such a weird disappearance.

I experienced that momentary horror once years ago. Never want to feel that again. Even the memory of it still causes me to go weak.

My theory is that this young man met with foul play his bank accounts not touched red flag. Never contacting his family another red flag. He was intelligent a good student. I feel for the family not knowing what happened to him. He was only 14 when he left his family. There are too many theories speculation but I believe he is no longer alive unfortunately.

This entire video I just listened not sure how I felt about this being a dad myself and then nearing the end of the video when he mentioned that the dad continues to nurture the acorns that grew into oak trees he planted them and even replanted them, out of nowhere this gripped me so hard I literally just cried it immediately overwhelmed me. I hate to say this but I don’t think Andrew is with us anymore and it’s so sad that even kids with all the love in the world and little to no pressure still can become lost forever.

There are people hanging out at London train stations all day looking for runaways.

I’m the same age as Andrew. Andrew may have used proxy websites at the time. When I was in school I got past the blocked sites by using proxies to access MySpace, my email, and msn; without leaving a trace. I didn’t have the internet at home or a computer, so my parents never knew I had social media. There were many ways around the net nanny systems, and I feel Andrew may have done the same. The reliance on social media wasn’t as important at this time so going hours even days without wasn’t uncommon. I personally believe that Andrew ran away because of his academic success and that he didn’t want it. I’ve also seen accounts that contradict the parents, he was bullied at school. To me, his parents aren’t telling the truth of their own behaviour towards him. They come across as prideful people, and put an image on for outsiders to protect their own ego. The same attitude that would have pushed Andrew away, and seeing interviews exhibiting this behaviour, may have kept him away. This is simply my take, and I could be incredibly wrong.

Scares me this case, I ran away from home in Manchester. To london when I was 14 and slept in Trafalgar Square for nearly two weeks. With age and hindsight I shiver thinking what could of happened too me! Edit: I forgot to mention i ran away the weekend before Andrew did.

This case has always bothered me. Not taking a charger, one-way ticket. I feel like Andrew might have been diagnosed as autistic these days and just made a terrible impulsive mistake. London is no place for the naive.

Whenever I see coverage on these kinds of cases I always have to cast some amount of doubt on how parents/teachers describe the people (especially teenagers) that go missing. Loving parents can be surprisingly out of touch with their children, so there's a fair chance that Andrew was interested in social media, that he did struggle with mental health, that he wouldn't have told his sister about his problems, etc. etc. Not implying that inaccuracies come from a place of malice, but as someone from a loving and supportive home, there were countless things my parents and big sister didn't know about me at 14. "He wouldn't do that" is almost never something a parent can be 100% right about

I’ve always wanted Casefile to cover Andrew Gosden. It’s one of those cases that’s always lingered in the back of my mind for many years… and now it’s only recently that there’s been sudden developments!

I couldn't possibly imagine what a family goes through when a family member goes missing, especially a child with no closure this is really sad .

I personally believe that the "Andyroo" account was him, if he was being bullied then in a moment of fury he decided to run away. People at school could've been saying things like "I know your sister, Charlotte, she always says how much her and your family hate you." or just driving him to a point of running away, over the years he was gone he may have turned cold this would partially explain him saying "I just felt like it" when he was asked why he ran away. Obviously this may not be the case but this is just my opinion. I hope that one day they'll find him or he leaves a note saying he's okay, I wish the family well. I can't imagine how hard it would be losing your son and having evidence but barely any, the security footage is so frustrating and I wish the police acted faster. This channel has shed light and provided a lot more information than other sources, I hope more people can find this and be educated. Thanks for creating this as it may help :)

Watching this, not realizing we are the same age until the end of the video. Thinking about that, back when I was 13/14 years old, I now recall wanting to run away far from my hometown and from everyone else. But that was because my family members were mostly violent. Now that I am turning 31 soon, I hope Andrew whether or not he's alive, is living/resting in peace.

Another teenage boy that went missing in the kings cross area of London was Martin Allen in 1979. Just like Andrew, he disappeared without trace. Also, it is worth mentioning that Islington was home to one of Britain's biggest child abuse rings back in the 70s and 80s. Kings Cross is in the Islington area of London. EVERY childrens 'care home' in Islington had been infiltrated by paedos. Needless to say, no-one was ever brought to justice for what happened to the children of Islington, and no doubt those evil child traffickers were still at large when poor Andrew went missing. I pray that Andrew didn't fall in to their clutches, but I guess we will never know. I feel so sad for his poor parents and sister.

This case has bothered me for years, thank you for covering it so well. I have seen many interviews with Andrews father, who is simply amazing, as are the entire family. I did hope the recent lead would bring answers, but sadly, another brick wall. I do hope this is solved and the family get answers.

this case breaks my heart in a way different than most. he seemed like a such a nice boy, with an incredibly promising future and loving parents. hearing how much hurt the family has gone through following his disappearance is awful.

The £200 had to be spent on something Andrew's family would later approve of. Going to London for a couple of hours suggests it was to inspect a purchase. An important point is that Andrew's parents were not tech savvy therefore Andrew would not necessarily discuss the intended purchase of say a laptop. Specially if he was duped into a bargain buy with travel incentives.

i only live about an hour from Doncaster. Did anyone ever wonder if Andrew got the train home and something happened then?.

Being on the gifted and talented register is not always a positive thing. I was very proud when my son and daughter were added when they were still in primary school. I nurtured them and encoraged them but also gave them time away from studying doing sports and time with friends. When they got to secondary school the pressure applied onto them due to their status on gifted and talented register (schools get extra funding for the children listed). My son HATED the pressure. He hated having to miss rugby matches to attend science or maths competitions. I discussed with school and requested he be removed. He was not happy and he needed to be able to be himself. Initially they were reluctant but my son stopped attending the extra classes etc. He was so much happier. He still did VERY well in his academic studies, likely because he was happier in himself. My daughter was the opposite and thrived on the pressure. Maybe it all got too much for him and needed time out. When he'd been gone a while it was too difficult, in his mind, to go back. I truly hope that is the case and that he is alive and happy where he is now.

As a Londoner I can say bodies from the the earlier part of the 1900’s have surfaced in the 70s and 80’s. It’s a very strong current and a stretch of water spanning over 200 miles.

That Andy-Roo incident has been the closest lead yet.

It's hard to believe that Andrew would still be alive and not reach out either to his parents or police. With how much attention is on his case he likely would've heard about his father's suicide attempt and seen the absolute hell-horror-misery-scape that his parents have been living since he left. It's hard to imagine a kid that's supposed to be as sweet as Andrew would just allow things that serious to go on and on and on and on and on and not at least reach out to the police to say "Hey, I'm alive but I want to be left alone/don't want contact with my parents" at least they could know he was alive. But to just let them suffer and suffer up to the point of his father nearly killing himself? I think unfortunately he ran into some kind of trouble. Just because they haven't found a body means little. :(

The term 'mature for their age' is often used on kids with trauma, who actually aren't mature Not saying Andrew necessarily had trauma, but the expression is misused often

I think Andrew is alive today. Here’s my thinking, for what it’s worth. He enjoyed watching Reginald Perrin, an old 70s sitcom where the hero plans his own disappearance and starts a new life. He was interested in Nietzsche, who was opposed to traditional values and argued that people should create their own values and be true and authentic to themselves. He left the scouts and the church a little time before he disappeared. Although, he was very intelligent he had little interest in pursuing a university career. All being highly organised and traditional institutions, with traditional values. I don’t know why he would have left his birthday money, but if he was now living according to his own values, depending on who gave him it, he may not have felt it was right to take the money then disappear. Or he could have just forgotten about it in the heat of moment. I also think he wanted to walk four miles to school to give himself time think through his ideas and feelings, and eventually his plans. He probably did meet people in London, not necessarily groomers, possibly even people not far off his own age, who felt sorry for him or understood him and helped. In my experience, granted it was a very long time ago, but some people did go to London, the big city, so that they could express themselves, be authentic in a way, they couldn’t at home in a small town or village. They didn’t always fall in with a bad crowd, maybe it’s just me, but more often than not, the people I knew fell in with a good crowd. Why didn’t they go to the authorities in Andrew’s case? Who knows? Maybe he threatened to take off if they did. Just a final thing, I feel the “Andy Roo” incident is too much of a coincidence since that was his nick name as a child. The fact that this person called themselves that on the platform while chatting, suggests it either was him, or someone who’d been close to him. I actually wouldn’t be surprised, and I hope this is the case, if he is alive in his early 30s, and living off-grid somewhere.

I don't think this is worth sending to any tip lines or anything but I'm a south Lincolnshire resident (specifically the Spalding and Boston areas) and having seen the updated versions of his missing poster specifically the one with the short hair and glasses I'm certain I've seen someone who looks exactly like that, almost definitely a different person but when you mentioned the Andy roo stuff in Lincoln I genuinely got shivers down my spine, next time I'm in boston and have access to a printer i might put up one or two posters as Boston isn't far from Lincoln and is a considerably cheaper place to live. If he were to have been evicted I think it's likely he would've moved south of Lincoln towards Boston and Peterborough

I used to think that andyroo guy was absolutely andrew, but looking at it now "andyroo" seems like the easiest nickname to make for someone named andrew, it's like nicknaming someone named "john" as "johnny" or something so common that anyone could've come up with it

Not true. It's likely most bodies that enter the Thames are never found. When they searched for that one eyed loon recently they looked in the Thames they discovered two bodies that wouldn't have been found if they hadn't been looking. At any one time it's likely there are many bodies in the Thames and around the country, probably thousands that will never be discovered.

Leominster, where a man apparently tried to report a sighting to police, is not 150 miles south-east of London. It is to the west, and only 40 miles south of Shrewsbury where the letter, claimed to be from the same man, stated that Andrew had been seen.

I'd love to know how you mysteriously board a train! It would make more sense to say "14 year old boy boards a train and mysteriously never returns." I hope they do find him.

I do think he was groomed in person at an educational, musical, gaming event and was convinced to go to London and that man was waiting for him. Definitely abducted and whatever happened, happened.

I think I've said this somewhere before but Andrew reminds me so much of me and my younger self. Based off of my experience, there were probably hidden emotional issues the parents never knew about, as well as a very high possibility of being groomed. The case has haunted me due to how easily I could imagine having been in this situation. It makes me reevaluate my childhood and relationship with my parents a lot. I know this isn't much but I sincerely hope for the best for his family. This isn't the kind of thing anyone can heal from. Edit: autistic impulse decision/chance of more freedom or independence seems very likely IMO (from my own experience, I have done risky things I probably shouldn't have for my own safety but it just didn't cross my mind.)

If the ticket seller is to be believed, then it would seem that Andrew had made his mind up. The question remains: made his mind up to do what? I find it difficult to believe (or even to understand) how a child can be "groomed" without access to conventional methods such as social media and the internet. According to Andrew's parents, he expressed little interest in these media. I should think it likely that poor Andrew met with foul play for no reason other than that he was carrying so much cash and probably caught the gaze of individuals accustomed to petty theft, and maybe more....I doubt that his sense of "boundaries" was particularly sophisticated, and that includes his "radar" regarding who to deliberately avoid. He was small, hearing-impaired and probably easily overpowered. I also find it disturbing--and peculiar--that he would go to a concert alone, just wandering through London by himself. I wish more answers were forthcoming.

You haven't considered the possibility that Andrew met someone nefarious on the course he attended the year prior to his disappearance.

It's so admirable that they help others when they can't rid themselves of their own pain.

The Gosden parents seem like such great great people, I truly wish they get the closure they need. Tragedy shows a persons true self and the Gosdens have proved their worth and kindness.

Okay so I heard about this case on another channel with a much shorter video. I’ve listened to this entire video. My mind has not changed. There’s no evidence for him being gay, trans, abused, groomed or any other nonsense I constantly see in the comments on this case, especially those things being the reason why he left home. There IS evidence for him being autistic. Turning down a phone for an Xbox instead, keeping to himself, limited verbal communication and socialization, as well as being able to easily identify likes and dislikes (and more I can’t think off the top of my head) is all evidence that he was probably autistic. What this means is that he wasn’t talking to anyone online. People with ASD rarely, if ever, betray their own values, and it’s practically impossible to get them to do something they don’t want to do. There’s NO chance he was getting groomed by some mysterious online presence. I can’t emphasize this enough- if the kid couldn’t even be caught on the only laptop in the house, he was not speaking to strangers online. As for the remaining pieces of evidence- I agree with the sentiment that he planned on returning home, probably very soon after departing. The only piece of evidence against this is the refusal to buy a return ticket on the train. However, this could easily be explained away. It may be possible that he either had a plan to get home a different way, to something like not wanting to keep track of it while he was away. I personally believe he went for a concert in the city, but whatever the reason he went voluntarily for his own purposes. What happened? Either foul play or a fatal accident. Narrator mentions the river that goes through London. By coincidence, Lazy Masquerade, another RU-vid channel, mentioned the same river in a video of his recently, and said that river, on average, has a body wash up on it once a week. Lots of people’s bodies get discovered weeks to months after drowning, and some people never get discovered in that river. The fact that a body was found during their private search is actually EXTREMELY unremarkable. So as it stands, it was either a freak accident that no one was around for or heard or saw, or an opportunistic criminal taking advantage of a young kid alone in the streets. The only other thing that stood out was the Andyru account, which was extremely interesting. It’s either a screwed up person attempting to troll or mess with the investigation, knowing about the case (the £200 figure emerged in the conversation quite conveniently), or, by some crazy miracle that could actually be him, as the way the conversation was described is actually pretty consistent with what you would expect with someone with autism to sound like. Anyway that’s my totally-legit expert armchair analysis.

He was extremely gifted, quiet yet good with adults. Having seen how the secret services and other agencies can and have worked I would say he is now an asset of theirs and was groomed to be such. Most youngsters are looking to be something better, full of adventure and boldness and if given the right, yet strictly secret, motivation they may well take the plunge.

What a very sad story. The only conclusion one can make for sure is 1) Either Andrew himself set out never to be found..OR 2) Someone never intended him to ever be found. This is truly a Bizarre roller-coaster mystery.

This lad went missing from same village as me. Hope he comes home one day and makes his mum and dads day. There’s so much that doesn’t make sense. No return ticket yet took very little with him. £200 would of got him no where really. 2 nights in a hotel or a couple of weeks food if he slept rough. You would think he should of been seen on multiple cameras throughout London showing where he was heading, I can only think police left tracing cctv til it was to late.

I dont think he meant to be gone more than a day. Probably groomed to meet up with someone, then get taken home afterwards. Hence no clothing or even his charger. But his one way ticket to meet a friend online resulted in a predator grabbing him.

I hope so much that one day Andrew is found, one way or another. This story is gutwrenching. I respect the family so much for continuing to bear their grief as best they can. Whenever I consider grief and the bounds of human persistence, I'll think of them.

Jesus christ this was a tough case to listen to. The parents still going to concerts their son just might be at 13 years later, keeping his bank account topped up, never changing the locks, etc. I can def understand what he said in the end about how the dad sometimes felt envious of the parents that found out their child was murdered. As bad as that sounds, at least you have closure. In this case, these parents will probably never get over this.
