I followed this tutorial at home, and my 14yos hair turned out FANTASTIC. I wish I could add a picture to this comment. I even nailed the toner color. Thank you so much, you are an excellent teacher.

Can I just swoon over the fact that your client said she wanted a 1x/year color treatment… and you not only obliged, but you DELIVERED!!! Hair coloring is SO expensive, especially in the area I currently live in (so cal) and I have asked for something similar, but every stylist I’ve asked that from immediately started giving the mean girl treatment… it’s now been about 1.5 years since I’ve been to a stylist because I got tired of it. I started doing my own hair. I hate it because it takes forever, but I couldn’t justify spending $400+ and 4 hours in a chair to walk out the door with hair I didn’t ask for. You rock!!!

Looks great, you did a wonderful job Bobby. However, I think it would be better to use the blowdryer instead of the backcombing method. This way it would allow you to come closer to the roots with the bleach, and it wouldn't be such a grown out look. By the way, in Europe nobody does the backcombing or hand picking methods anymore, these are considered very dated ways to do it. Every hair colorist switched to blowing the hair slices with the blowdryer, it turns more natural and easy to maintain.

Whats your method when combing out the teasing, what leave-in product do you use, if any..? Or do you just do a hair mask at the sink? I love all of your work, and you have taught me SO much! =-D Love from Norway

Balayage seems difficult to do. The people I know that had balayage at one point, ended up with half lightened hair, no strokes or dimension. Including me... I never had the nerve to do it again. Mine was yeaaars ago and because it was yellow and looked like a tip dye till mid hair, they had to correct it with lowlights. But the lowlights were coming out (as usual with blonde) really fast. I had another dresser dye it back to dark blonde 😢 now I just do highlights every now and then or a face framing one. Recently a friend got it done, she just looks completely blonde now. I think you should be really good at your job to get the results you just showed.

A warm tone can look LEVELS lighter than an ash or natural ash tone. I feel it too. I even feel like peoples opacity can vary and be very deceiving

Why do you need to backcomb. What does that do.
@juliebrown1394
@juliebrown1394 7 месяцев назад
It is about pushing the shorter hair out of the way of the lighter so the end result is a blend of lightened hair and virgin hair creating a soft look.

I've always been lead to believe that balayage means that it's visually painted on and foils are not used, otherwise its just foils...
@jaquosh1576
@jaquosh1576 10 месяцев назад
Nice technique, but why did you use that strong bleach? I think, a 10/1 with 20 vol by Igora would have been strong enough, don't you think? But maybe you wanted to save time. So what about using Blond me with 2 percent? She was a level 8......

if foil involved its no longer a balayage, i wish at least hairdressers doesnt do this name calling mistake. If its foils its highlights. if its open air then its balayage. Balayage is indeed a French word that means “sweeping.” The technique was developed in France in the 1970s and called balayage because of the long, sweeping strokes used to apply the lightener or color to hair.- French, literally ‘sweeping’, from balayer ‘to sweep’. PLEASE FOR GOD SAKE, American hairdressers, Canadian hairdressers stop using this term to any king of highlights.
@BobbyHairStudio
@BobbyHairStudio 10 месяцев назад
Did you not see the sweeping method? The foils are there to insulate and keep the lightener from touching areas I don’t want to brighten. This is still balayage, yes it is not the traditional form but other than the two foils in the front, all the pieces are swept and blended in the balayage style.
@ajcambern
@ajcambern 10 месяцев назад
Can you even see the video from up on your high horse? How insufferable. Foil is a tool not a definitive label. Balayage is a technique and was clearly used. Go scold yourself in the mirror.

@dustin628

Well I use the balayage technique with clay lightener but I have to insulate it with foil on both sides to give it a kick and help it lighten more. Open air balayage always comes out so warm and never lifts close to the seven levels the lightener promises. Trust I wish I could just leave it open air bc the swartzkopf clay lightener is so nice for the technique and never bleads or anything. But it barely lifts that way, especially with previous color and it doesn't matter how much I saturate the hair. Do you have an issue with that, and if not what is your process, technique and lightener you use?
