But that wasn’t a brilliant car to drive, I’ve seen videos posted by Shmee and Parker (Vehicle Virgins). Both were underwhelmed by their SL65 Black experiences. An AMG needs to do more than just look crazy to be legendary.
the launch was in Cape Town ,South Africa. there were a few things you need to know when they did it here in my city: 1)they went up a place called Kloof Neck, the people living there were all complaining how loud it was, even if they lived a good way off, they could still hear it. 2)i was going into the city and there was nothing in front of behind me at the time. totally clear(i think the Gods were allowing my to enjoy and savour the moment),i had a Nissan Primera that was pretty tuned. iwas on like 190-210 km/h and increasing, then i heard a drone and whine from a distance coming from behind me. suddenly, there she was, hunting me down like a tortoise,(felt like the SLR WAS A CHEETER AND I WAS A TORTOISE). within 3 seconds,a dot turned into a flashing by sliver SLR. then sounded like a NASCAR. and barely 2 or 3 seconds later,he was gone. one of my most memorable moments in my life. later id drive a few R8's,doing high speeds, but that despite me not driving a SLR,still seemed more special of a car event for me. AS FOR THE BEST AMG FOR ME? ALL OF THEM(except maybe the AMG SLK 55 Black Series, was said to be their worst one of the bunch. most testers didnt like the car,but then again, have not driven one or been in one,so ill reserve my opinion there and leave it at maybe).
So did the e55 amg never exist? That sedan had one of the most reliable engines Mercedes ever made in history with that M113 V8. 500 hp sedan that will kick ass still with a modern amg
Love the fact the E63 estate came 4th! However I think the S212 version just before it deserves a mention. It comes with the same insane 5.5 litre twin turbo that was in the 6x6 but in a car that’s half the weight and has a lower centre of gravity! It’s also the same car under the skin as the later gen but with a better engine. And before people say it doesn’t sound as good as NA, drive one first. Mercedes spent $2m on just trying to get the sound right, it’s delicious, deep and devastatingly awesome 😀
Nice video. When I had my AMG GT, I used to bring it into the dealership for regular servicing. While there, the service engineer (who'd become my good friend) would show me around some really cool cars. I got to see a CLK DTM and the G63 6x6 (this was owned by royalty from a neighbouring country) and was just monstrous and stunning. Great experiences.
@@alstound i didnt say it was a big deal did i. I said it was a great car, which it is. And if you actually check the facts there's a lot of it that isn't mercedes SLK32. And whats wrong with the SLK32 anyway? It was good enough in its day to be an equal to the highly praised Z3M. You clearly know absolutely nothing about cars and are very narrow minded.
C216 CL65 is a great car. my dream car Thank you for putting it in the list. For me the current C217 S63 Coupe is even better. With that stunning interior and exterior and all that luxury, and going from 0 to 60 under 3.5, it's really in its own league.
My favourite AMG's are all the V12 65 Models. Proper tyre shredding monsters! Absolutely love them, especially the S65 AMG Coupe 😍 Such a shame they're all gone now.
My personal favorite would be the SL73 AMG. Mercedes and AMG are yet to build something that is that excessive in every way, and the engine ended up in the Zonda starting a brand new legacy for itself.
- My favorite is the CL 65 AMG - In my opinion the SL 65 AMG Black Series was more important than the SL 73 - I missed the W220 S65 AMG Mat, it would be interesting to have a list of non-M cars from BMW and not AMG from Mercedes, it has very interesting cars, like 190E EVO II, Z8, CL 600, X5 LM..
My absolute dream is to take a 2011 AMG ML63 - Replace the 6.2L M156 engine with the more refined M159 version. - Create a cavity in the boot and move EVERYTHING not necessary in the engine bay back there, especially the battery. - Upgrade the electrical system to 24v - Drop in twin electrically-assisted turbos into the extra space you just made under the hood. You now have about 1500hp into all 4 wheels with zero turbo lag.
Interesting list you choice Mat, yes indeed! But, I am list just five my kind models, my TOP5! No5; AMG GLE 63 S 4MATIC Coupe+, No4; AMG GT 63 4MATIC+ No3; AMG GT Roadster, No2; AMG E63 S 4MATIC, No1; AMG G63 S. When they upgrade this models on “BLACK” level, that also can be included on my list!
I always loved the SLS since Clarkson reviewed it in TopGear back in 2010. But the SLS Black took that crown jewel in 2013, and I have never managed to actually see one. Until yesterday. Parked outside a coffee shop. Along with it, there were 458s, 991.2s, 360 Modena, 430, 996 Turbo, and right next to the Black, an Aventador SVJ. I only gave the SVJ a glance. That is how badly I wanted an SLS Black.
Totally agree with the Top 3. Was missing out the SLK Black Series. Not only to mention, it was the first black series ever, but also because it's nuts to put a tuned V8 into such a tiny car.
There is a Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3 Waxenberger in Finland. it is a rare special model made of only 5 cars. The model is named after Erich Waxenberger, Mercedes-Benz's development engineer.
I absolutely agree with your list and the order Mercedes is the bravest car manufacturers out to put racing technology on the roads the way they do and there special versions are really special
