This is the third installment of the hydraulic pump replacement for the 1550. The hydraulic unit is ready to put back on the tractor, so it's just a matter of setting that in place and putting all the pieces back in their places. I also go over the procedure for adjusting the 3 point hitch height adjustment, because it was going to need it after putting the internal linkage back to its factory settings. I also set the hydraulic relief pressure. The old relief valve had been worn quite a bit, so I put a used one in and then check the pressure, adding shims until it's at the 2000 psi it's supposed to be.

You'll need to add a priority valve/ foow divider to the hydraulic unit. If you have 3 point hitch, it bolts onto the left side of the unit, just in front of the lift arm rockshaft.

Hey Chris when you are testing the hydraulic pressure you use a loop hose with a valve I have a gauge I can plug into the pioneer coupler on my tractors and then I pull the hydraulic lever and see what I have for pressure is that ok or should I find a valve for a loop. Can the valve be a ball valve I see yours is more like a faucet. Thanks for all the awesome videos I did the pto on my 1750 after watching your video and it’s fixed and don’t leak thanks for the helpful videos
@ThatOliverGuyChris
@ThatOliverGuyChris 11 месяцев назад
One that goes directly into the remote works. The valve is nice because you can slowly close it and see when the needle starts jumping. Plus I can run it mostly closed to warm up the oil quicker. It's a hydraulic needle valve. If you go that route, make sure it's rated for at least 2500 psi.

Tilt steering 😮 is that what that little flapper thingy is for? I've often wondered what it's purpose was. 😄

I recently changed the hydraulic filter in my 1750. While filter shopping, I saw in the Agco parts book a Retainer, P/N 104160A, right next to the spring (1:15), and mine didn't have any so I ordered one. Tres expensive at over $40 for a little stamped piece of metal. When I got it, I couldn't figure out how it should go in. It looks a little like the end cap on the filter itself, so I assumed it was maybe for an earlier style filter, so I left it out. Do you suppose this was the right thing to do? Love the videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
@ThatOliverGuyChris
@ThatOliverGuyChris 11 месяцев назад
Yes, the original filters were similar to a hollow wood tube and needed that cap to seal off the spring end. Now the filter has that built in. I'm surprised that was a current part.

Must be why it was so expensive. It's a collector's item. Thanks for the info!

Hey Chris, appreciate the videos. We watched this video to remove the hydraulic pump in my white 2-70. When we drained the fluid we drained the transmission and final drive as well. Saw online to use 80/90 for the trans and final drive. What we are wondering is if we can just use hydraulic fluid instead because the housing next to the gears that run the pump is machined in a way the hydraulic fluid would just run into the final drive anyway.. appreciate your advice
@ThatOliverGuyChris
@ThatOliverGuyChris 9 месяцев назад
The hydraulic reservoir in a 2-70 is isolated from the transmission and final drives. The gears are lubed by the transmission fluid, not the hydraulic fluid. There was a time when White switched to universal hydraulic transmission fluid in the transmission and final drives, but they had issues with low lube pressure in hot weather. I would not use a plain hydraulic oil in the transmission, it doesn't have the additives needed for the gears. Universal hydraulic/transmission fluid such as Agco's 821XLwill work, but my preference is 80w90.
@ThatOliverGuyChris
@ThatOliverGuyChris 9 месяцев назад
After re-reading your post. I also want to say that the transmission, pump drive and final drives all use the same oil.

Joe just put a new hydraulic pump in my 1550 last winter. Now I know what he went through. AS I'm sure was the case for you, he had to put a 1650 pump in because that's what's available, along with a change in a gear (I think) to make it work. I enjoy watching you work on the old Olivers.

Mercy are those hydraulic filters expensive. I'm not sure how much those for the 1550 is, but the White American 80 was over $110 dollars the last time I bought it. I guess it's just one of those things you have to do to run the tractor. Good job Chris, have a good day!

Filter being stuck was a pain. Found that the disc gang wrench for 252 disc fit the filter housing and gave you a lot of leverage.

Hey Chris, I have a slow leak coming out of my PTO on my 1650. What might the problem be?
@ThatOliverGuyChris
@ThatOliverGuyChris 11 месяцев назад
If it's a single speed, which most are, there's a plastic cap on the inner end of an internal shaft that tends to break down over the years and then fills the cavity behind the pto shaft with oil. There's an oring that seals the bearing on the PTO shaft. You could take off the snap ring and replace that oring, but be prepared for lots of oil, possibly several gallons, if that plastic cap is shot. That would be more of a band aid fix. To replace the plastic cap or any of the lip seals that may have gone bad, you'll need to remove the pto unit.
@patrickpigg4132
@patrickpigg4132 11 месяцев назад
Thanks chris, I guess I will just have to pull PTO out and see what I can see.

I put the head on it and did a couple rounds in the yard. It trimmed the lawn and did a great job following contours. Mom probably didn't like mowing over the tracks I left, but I wanted to make sure it was ready. Every time the beans get close to dry, we get more rain. That's as far as I have gotten so far.
