You can still hear the sounds of the fair. The Grand Organ designed by Dr. G. A. Audsley for the fair was eventually sold to Wanamaker and now exists as a part of the famous Wanamaker Organ at Macy’s in Philadelphia. The organ is played daily and open to the public.
Very nice. There's an original model of Philly's 1876 centennial exposition (made around 1900) still available for viewing at the Please Touch Museum in Philly. Had a great visit to St Louis in 2012 - saw the City Museum and went up the arch!
And they built all of this in about 2 years? This does not make sense considering the technology that we supposedly had back in that time. It seems like such a grandiose architectural project to be taken down after it's "purpose". Why not just leave it? Very interesting video.
I'm curious if these historians actually believe hand tools like shovels built the world's fair grounds, or if they just want to keep their jobs? Lol. I suspect those buildings required coal/steam power tools through the industrial - showman locomotive. Love this!!
If I ever had access to time travel, visiting a world’s fair would be top of my list. 1904 in Saint Louis would be extraordinary, wouldn’t it? Of course, Saint Louis in 2024 is a Red State cesspool, so we’ll avoid at all cost.
Charles Hamilton, you are an amazing man! While I can't find the time to do things I love and enjoy, like hobbies and spending time with family, you have found a way to dedicate your time, effort, and energy to speak on something you don't seem passionate about. We have a finite number of hours on this earth, yet you've chosen to spend yours politicizing a city and state, spreading negativity. Furthermore, you've demonstrated your ignorance by not knowing that although Missouri is a red state, St. Louis is a blue city. What kind of person restricts their travel, learning, and experiences based on the political makeup of a place? It only takes 51% of a party you dislike to keep you away, which means you're not only wasting time on things you don't enjoy (complaining about political parties), but also limiting your own potential experiences. Like I said, you are truly an amazing man.
