In the 1960s, fun-seeking vacationers were packing onto the crowded beaches of the Jersey Shore. From Highland Beach to Cape May Point, the charm and allure of the great beach towns along the coast was attracting tens of thousands. A young generation seeking fun and adventure was making memories that would last forever. While tight-knit families were passing along a lifetime of traditions to their children.

He said it! "Taylor's" ham! Absolutely! Grew up in Livingston and spent my summers in Belmar, NJ. I was 5 and it was my job to buy the Star Ledger at the corner store and bring it home! It cost a quarter and I was allowed to have 2 pennies to buy Bazooka Bubble gum! I saved up my gum and ate it all at once, because we were having a bubble blowing contest! I won! But then the bubble burst and gum got all in my hair. My mom used olive oil and got it all out, ha! I remember swimming all day, playing football with my three brothers on the beach. Taking a hot shower after swimming in the ocean all day - you never felt so clean. And then feeling so hungry and my sweet, Irish Grandmother would make Pastina with a little butter and salt for me. It tasted so good! My two older brothers caught mackerel at Shark River inlet and my grandmother cooked it! I thought it smelled too fishy, ha! You rode your bike everywhere, stood on the big swings and then jumped off and went to the boardwalk in Pt Pleasant or Seaside! When I was little my father took my younger brother and me all dressed up with Mom to the boardwalk in Asbury Park! He wore a suit and I had a dress on with lacy socks! I remember how he leaned over to grab the brass ring at the Merry Go Round for a free ride! It was such a peaceful, wonderful time!

DonnaMarie, I love your stories! They're the best!!! I got a kick out of them. 😄 My Italian Grandmother used to make us pastina. I think I liked it but I was a baby. :) You had such great times and have such great memories! 💙

I miss Wildwood so much. Live in Hawaii now since 87. Last girl I kissed on the mainland, was Micky Morey. She had the best laugh in the world. I worked at Mory's Pier Raging waters before leaving for Hawaii. I still have my red Birdwell Guard shorts. lol I really enjoy ALL your videos. I can't wait to get back to NJ. Warmest Alo)(a

Love the series. However styrofoam boogie boards were not on the market in the 60’s. Invented in California in 1974.
