I was 16 years old and went to the world fair with my boyfriend and his sister it was fantastic. Seeing the future. I did marry him and 50 years later he passed away. Great memories with him and his sister at the fair.
My parents met at the Fair in April, 1964 and married shortly before it closed in 1965 after visiting probably fifty times on various date nights....and stayed together till my Mom passed four years ago...although I was five years from existing, they always let me know how magical they found it

That was a perfect age for you , my girl visited the fair as as a teenager from St Louis ,her sister and brother were all in the same age group . She was not left with a good impression , due to the fact , she did not want be there , her siblings felt the same as her.Her family made the trip to see La Pieta', La Pieta' was brought over on The Cristobolo Colombo, ocean liner in a special floating crate . I was lucky if my Dad took me to the local fair at that age , I had a first cousin that visited the fair in NYC, she was my age 6 , she was very lucky .I really wanted to go to Expo 67 in Montreal it was the best of all the fairs, I still recall , my friends telling me about Expo 67 , I was left with eyes wide open. Oh well.
I was 8, and it was magical for me. Lived nearby, but my parents only took me twice. Hard to explain how delicious those Belgian Waffles were. Like the people in this video, 57 years later, I remember it like it was yesterday and was the most delicious thing on earth. And I too have been obsessed with recreating it. The secret is... Freshly whipped cream.
The most mind blowing thing from this worlds fair, to me, at age 12, was to discover that we could, in the future be answering phones and see the person who was calling! I was appalled at the time.! But now use Face time, all the time!
So many happy memories! My parents took me to the Fair when I was 13. It was a wonderful experience, and this video brought those happy thoughts back to life again! I also think that picking Judd Hirsch to narrate was a great idea!
I was thirteen also. My mother took me in late June. I was so excited the nigh before, I could not sleep. I was totally enthralled. Many fond memories. I still have the official guide book.
I was there too...but I was only 3 years old, and, unfortunately, have no memory of being there..(My mom said I mostly fell asleep in my stroller! ..) I always wish I had been just a few years older to remember the fair...So, thank goodness for this documentary, which I have seen many times., it has many wonderful memories preserved for all of us to watch over again and again, whenever we want to !
I can’t believe that I was so young then, but I was a ticket collector at one of the entrances. If you were there, and saw a picture of me, you might remember. Maybe I took your ticket and let you in. Where time has gone. Dang it!
The sad part of videos like this is they smash the Vision and dreams the fair was intended to make. Peace through understanding. A message lost today with this shame we are living through. And I’m not speaking of politics.
I was born and raised in Flushing and was age 10 and 11in 1964 and 1965. Our family went many times and it was truly magical. And on Fridays we little kids could get in for 25 cents!
That just melted my heart. And I'm also younger than the World's Fair, but just by a few years. I was just talking to my aunt and uncle about it, I just mentioned it and the flood of memories came pouring out immediately.
I am a 64 years old African American male who lives in Macon Bibb county Georgia I was also 7 years old when My maternal great aunt Evelyn Brown (1911-1969) who was a Clayton county Georgia Atlanta School teacher took me to the 1964 worlds fair. We rode the train all the way to the Bronx New York and lodge with a cousin so that we could visit the fair every day by taking the subway from the Bronx to Oueens New York to attend the Fair. Do you remember riding the monorail and the lights at night and the colorful water fountain and the masses of people? Do you remember the miniature cars that you could drive What about seeing Michelangelo Pieter statute how it sat down on a stage at the bottom of a stadium with bleachers that was covered with a tent. The spot light was focused on the statue. Their was lights on the bottom of the bleachers that gave one the effect of being in a movie theater. I remember people speaking in under tones as though they were in church for they had such reverence and awe for such a mighty work of art. You are right, the 1964 worlds fair did seem like magic. And you and I being males of the last of the baby boomers generation were blessed to have adults to expose us as children why they were building these inner vision in us so that we continue to travel through this spiritual journal in life we would not allow the challenges of life to cause us to despair but to forever be an eternal optimist.
Can't believe where the time went. I was 7. I remember it all. Went 2 times. Lived 30 minutes away. What a blast. The old ones were right. Time Flys and we are only here for a minute.
This brings back many great memories from when I went although I was never aware of any of the negativity about the fair. For me it was the most awesome place I've ever seen
Went there with my parents when I was nineteen, just prior to joining the Air Force. Remember having my first "Legal" beer with my parents at a Philippine style restaurant in an area around a small lake with other restaurants run by the various Countries.

Around 18:10 - 18:30 - the "zipper" around 1 Times Square, first put into use in 1965 and, until 1971, operated by Life Magazine. The controls for this zipper were supplied by Naxon Telesign; the font shown was designed for use on zippers wired, as this was, for 11-row high characters (it was a 5 x 7 character setup blown up to two columns per pixel vertically, and horizontally the top, middle and bottom rows remained the same but the middle ones in-between were two per pixel. Hence, for rows 2, 3, 5 and 6 in a 7-row character, coupled with two columns per pixel, each pixel would take up four bulbs. Meanwhile, though not seen on here, the time/temp display atop the entrance to GM's Futurama exhibit was built by Ad-Pact Sign Corp., a unit of General Indicator Corp. whose All-American Scoreboards subsidiary built Shea Stadium's massive scoreboard. (And also the one in use at Yankee Stadium I(a) from 1959 to 1973.) Ad-Pact's clocks were also seen at the original Penn Station from about 1960 to its 1963-66 demolition, and as part of a Cutty Sark billboard atop a building on Sixth Avenue between 41st and 42nd Streets that, by the end of the '60's, was torn down to make room for what started out as the New York Telephone building (now 1095 Avenue of the Americas).
I was there, 8 or 9 years old and as a kid, it WAS amazing, especially the GM Futurama. But as an adult I see it as something very different. Looking past it's turquoise and white facade it was, frankly, very shallow. Lots of over heated bad food ( my dad complained about the leathery chicken), lots of walking for adults, and shallow (for middle America, anyway) entertainment: dancing Indians and Asian contortionists. Most of the exhibits had no basements which meant many were just shallow buildings placed on the ground. While it was promoted to high heaven, the fair was a bust. As a kid, I loved it but looking deeper I realize what it really was, a cheap amusement park and I wonder who REALLY made out here for it, frankly, wasn't the American public. But then again, would I visit again, years later? Do I wish it would still occupy Flushing Meadow Park? You Betcha. I'd go again. Memories are a hell of a thing!

I’ve had said several things that I’d take back from my comment section… and right simply because I had this “got go go go.” Mindset. I now stop and think before I type something, this goes out to both right and left wing politics. Stop think. Is tearing someone else down really worth it? You should be more open minded and try to see the other persons view point instead of having the “I am always right and no one else is.” Accept that there will be people whom have different viewpoints. Sometimes those view positions are right and you should accept that. Stop being hostile to everyone whom has a different view point than you.

Yes I understand The Term audio ANIMATRONICS Coined by W.E.D. Engineers under Uncle Walt. However have yet to hear him or any other Imagineer refer to them as Animatrons. correct me if I’m wrong, including when Walt himself debuted one of the talking parrots from the enchanted Tiki room on the show before he passed. I’m also aware that W.E.D. Created the first crude version of animatronics With the caveman and dinosaurs in the general motors exhibit which had very little animation at all once again never heard either of those referred to as animatrons I’m not a Disney aficionado but I’m a Disney aficionado.
