In Australia they still are indie and alternative. Only heard them on the radio twice, ever. No one besides hardcore fans know them. Edit... I know they aren't at all indie, but in Australia they would seem to be like an indie or alternative band, to someone who knows little about them.

musicalman1995 I think they were just pointing out what The 1975 are considered to be in Australia because they’re not very big over here whereas in Europe they’re really popular or something, idk. But you are right, there’s nothing wrong with pop music and hating pop music just to be “cool” is stupid.

same in indonesia. i don't think i've ever heard of their songs (even the singles) on the radio or tv. and they will hold a concert in jakarta next month but the tickets haven't sold out yet. their popularity here is so underrated compared to lany and honne. :(

Hope there are more rock numbers like People on the record. It shows some of their punk/metal influences and listenings and things they've always liked but never experimented with. And I hope there are guitar solos too on the new record. They've been considered a show off in pop rock music for the last 20-25 years, but the 1975 are a show off, all over the place band. So I always hope there will be some tasty solo, just like slick pop music in the 70s and the 80s. As far as I've seen, listened and read from and of them, they listen to the same stuff from different genres (electronica, jazz, metal, rap, r&b, punk) that I listen to, so I always appreciate where they're going and where they're coming from

... In my opinion the song was rubbish. You can warm up to a song, but when it is exactly the same the whole way through it's not exactly going to reveal anything new on 4th or 5th listening. I love 1975 and want to see them live at some point, but this might be my least favourite song of theirs I've heard by a country mile.
