The first 2 FF movies were at such a perfect time to make that type of movie, The cars, The culture, The mods all fit the narrative

My favorite car from the Fast and The Furious has always been the Nissan Skyline GT-R34 such a badass car

Recently, the theme park @ Universal Studios had its anniversary of the Studio Tour and we got to get off the trams and walk behind the Bates Motel set and got an very up close picture of Brians Skyline and Dom’s Charger, glad they restored the paint with it! Plus I’ve seen the other cars like SlapJacks Supra, Romans Spyder, and Orange Julius’ Mazda.

Was all the GT-Rs base Model or any special versions? Cause its sad destroying a (EV1) Lightning Yellow Gtr 1 of 68. 19 Base Model 44 V Spec + 3GB, 1 New Zea, 1 Singapore The rares color is QT1 V on a spec 2 only one built in that color 😮

Did Universal use any of the GTR's from 2F2F in 2009's Fast and Furious where Brian raced a blue GTR to win a spot on Braga's crew? I'm sorry if that story was already explained I've forgotten.😕

That eclipse spyder was out of place to me. Tyrese would have fit better in a S2K or a 300z twin turbo. Just my opinion.

It's so sad that this era of tuning is gone. Bright colors, tastefully tuned mass production cars, cool gatherings, car-related discussions, almost living in garage next to your car... Thank you, Mr. Lieberman, for all that. It was a great time.

After all these years, we finally have an in-depth look at what the true origin and true tuning of this legendary car were. This is going to help loads of people with actual skylines, and racing game people too. This is awesome.

Crazy that you all had a lightning-yellow R34 GTR in the 2nd movie, one of the rarest colors. Only 68 were made in comparison to the 347 MNP2 & 199 MNP3.

The Universal Studios ride that features this car is one of the worst rides ever... It needs to be removed.

In hindsight, the SRT4 was worthy. Maybe not for the "ultimate star car," but damn sure more respectable than the 3g Eclipse, and the Cavaliers, Sunfires, Focus ZX3s, and Tiburouns that we saw in the background of the movie. It still had a place in the film, and should have been put in there somewhere. They should have brought a few cars out, let you drive some of them, spoke more about the Mopar Stage Kits that they were developing at the time, etc. etc., and that may have swayed you slightly. If they didn't do that for you, then their marketing team sucked. Also, and as much as the word "diverse" is overused these days, the car culture isn't always a certain way. Not everyone and anyone who streets races only drove import cars, or only drives muscle cars, even at that time. There's always going to be a mix, even if you're in LA, or the East Coast, or whatever. So to have absolutely nothing but all JDM cars through all of these movies is outlandish and unrealistic, anyway. There's always going to be a few dudes with built-up old Novas, Chevelles, Fox Mustangs, later F-bodies, etc., in the mix somewhere. The first two movies painted it as if you were only into cars, if you were an import guy. Or if you drove muscle cars, you must be like 55 years old, even back in 2002.

I remember in either end of 2003 or mid to early 2004 going to the Hollywood star car museum in Gatlinburg Tennessee and the jump car was there. I specifically remember seeing it. The placard that was next to the car describe the same damage that Craig spoke on after the jump. Even down to some of the yellow paint showing in certain areas. I think that car was there for maybe a year cuz the next time I came back it was gone.

I absolutely loved the Blackbird when I saw it in a magazine article on Motorex. I remember being big mad when I learned the 2F2F car was the same car. Ruined. Yeah, yeah cold hard marketing facts... the car just looked better black in my opinion.

If I buy an R34, I would replicate the original Blackbird

@Craig Lieberman, can you do Brian's Subaru Impreza WRX STI from fast and furious 4? Also imagine if Brian started out in an Evo 7 first and move up to the skyline GT-R, it basically a call back from the first film where Brian started out in the eclipse and move up to supra. Basically, moving up the food chain in tuner cars. Man it was a missed opportunity, but hey at least the GT-R got some screen time for the night race.

"There's going to be a sequel to The Fast and the Furious, and I couldn't imagine what the story was going to be ..." I suspect the writers had similar thoughts on 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. Issues they appear to have resolved by throwing darts at a wheel that included things like, "maybe they drive in space?", or "they all become super spies and jump cars like they're indestructible?".

Crazy all these people complain about these cars being "overpriced". I paid less for my R34 GTR in 2020 than you paid for yours. People need to realize that outside of rare special editions, these cars haven't appreciated that much.

Very interesting as always. I never knew the other R34s were brought in on temporary inport permits, and that the other cars were GTTs (side note: it was a Japan episode of Top Gear where Richard and James had to buy cars from an online auction and that's where I learned of the GTT that Richard bought) Also, those 5 GT-Rs from Motorex cost $192,000 all together in 2002 which is $328,364.92 in 2023

I have lived in Newhall, CA since I was a kid. These cars would drive around the area and I would flip out 😅 i was an 11 year old kid, maybe 12 or 13 when they started filming the 2nd movie.. These movies shaped my love of cars and I will forever be grateful i got to experience this while it was new. Thanks for sharing Craig 😎✌️

There was a company called Tranceworx in Spokane Washington that had the Jump GTR I believe but it was before 2012. It was an old tuner shop that is no longer in business. The car was on display in the show room and had 2Fast 2Furious stunt car labeled on it.

There was also one Nismo 400R R33 GTR for sale here about decade a go for 90000€. It newer sold either and it is real Nismo 400R. These days Nismo 400R s are insanely expensive. Nismo built 44 400R s in total. That Midnight purple 400R is still here in Finland today.

Of the 11 years I was stationed in Japan, I had 3 different Skyline GT'S. A '77, an '84, and a '92. Absolutely loved them.

In Fast Furious 4 when Brian was selecting all those cars from the impound lot, what was he doing to modify the Skyline to make it better? I just never understood what parts he was taking from the other cars.

My favorite version of the GTR in the movies, was the little short film between the 1st and 2nd movies. When Brian finds a beat up Skyline at a little car dealership on the side of the road. Like that would ever happen lol. When he drives the car into the paint bay and it comes out with a fresh silver paint job, WHEW. I would pay a lot of money for a Skyline like that one.

Ok, I'd be interested if the R34 GT-R, which I think currently resides here in Germany, from the fourth movie is legit, from what I can find online, it's a car from Kaizo Industries and still only has an old title from Nevada which mentions the car as a "2007 Kai"!

2:40 couldn't agree more! Black is the color for ugly cars, I always say. Because black hides the lines and details of the bodywork due to being so dark and since grilles and other plastic parts are typically black, even those somewhat disappear in the black paint. Black even makes even a modern BMW's giant grille palpable. Nice to hear someone else voice their disdain for giving beautiful cars a black paint. It's such a shame because black doesn't allow a beautiful bodywork to shine. And I say this even though I generally like black. Just not on cars!

Newhall. I commute through there everyday taking the San Francisquito road with my Genesis Coupe. One of the best roads in So Cal to shake down a car. Rock Inn still going strong on the weekends.

And two movies later, they put a Skyline engine in a Mustang! The internet went a little crazy. I thought it was an interesting narrative choice and it’s not like they were going to overnight a crate V8 from America.

Didn't know one of them were in Norway. I do have some pictures of one from a show, but I figured it was a replica. Looking at the pictures now, it's probably the real deal. Edit: volocars sold it years ago. Real car used in the movie. On my pictures it says FF3 #48

I remember fighting with my brother about the RX 7 in the first movie. I knew it was an RX from the through engine shots by the rotary engine and my brother was convinced it was a Toyota. It didn’t hurt that I had a first gen RX.

To be fair the SRT-4 is pretty sweet, definitely not a R34 or a “hero” car but still and also the old white guys who love muscle cars did pick out a pretty sick Yenko Camaro so they did a pretty good job.

The reason the cars from the first 2 movies are more coveted and sell higher its because the first 2 movies are where they should have stopped!! Them movies were good they were a little out there but they were in the realm of possibilities. Now they've went into space in a car what's next going to fight some bad guy under the ocean? To top space they'll have to drive a car to Mars it's getting so ridiculous that it's not even bordering stupid it's just plain retarded. But the first two movies even though I'm not a tuner guy are a couple of the greatest movies from my childhood!! Thanks for all the videos brother

Fast and furious 1-3 still rides my heart until today. And to this dat I still watched them for comofort. Thank you Craig for the dedications to us fans.

I can't help but stand in awe to the mental disabilities of corporate execs, like the ones at Dodge who thought out the Neon thing. They knew it was a cheap, crap car, they were the ones who made it. And then they go out and say "this is what FF fans want".. I mean it's ok to make cheap, simple cars for less affluent customer. But be aware of what you're doing or you're going to embarras yourself together with the movie

I believe the Supra and GTR were sought out due to it’s potential modification compared to other models regardless of it’s popularity in both FF movies.

I'd agree, after the 3rd movie none of the cars are overly rememberable. Pauls cars in the last movie he was in might become popular because of that fact but none will command the money of the first 2 film cars.

Its crazy as a kid i remember the undergoing training videos for drifting and drag races shows a version of your gtr with the red strips (i think they changed it to yellow) then you were the one who made eddies skyline 🤯

I remember seeing my first GTR I was in disbelief and then right after it I seen a supra, a black supra and reved up really high after it and then they were both gone. It was like seeing legendary Pokémon.i rode on a 94 skyline never did I imagine it but dam hit 140 like nothing

It's wild hearing one of the GTR's came from Middlehurst in the UK. I grew up a few miles from Middlehurst Nissan and knew it was the only (legal) UK importer of GTRs for a long time. We saw so many R34's, and later R35's arriving here by the truck load when they were brand new and would regularly drive by just to see what was there on any given day

In early movies cars were the movie characters equally with people. In later movies cars are just consumables. Like cigarettes or bullets.

I'll tell ya why the cars from the first two movies are going for more than the other cars in later movies....because the first two movies are better than the rest of the movies...lol Tokyo Drift is awesome too but after that......uggg. And for me, it's not nostalgia that makes me say this.

The jump car was indeed in Spokane Washington, right after the movie came out. It was at a car stereo shop. It was cool to see, and I wish I still had some of the old pictures I took with it. I never knew who it sold to. But as a young man, it was awesome to see that car.
