I have loved every Analogue Productions title I have. They all have a very solid "presence" to them that is so engaging. Sometimes even more than other audiophile pressings. The Doors albums to me sound so much better than I have ever heard them. Like magic! Thanks for another great video!
Thank you very much for the wonderful selection. Many years ago I was listening to NPR radio interviewing Tony Bennett, they asked him what would be the best song you ever performed, he said Blue Velvet, he sang it on radio and it blew me away. I went looking for his version of BV, and found out it was only performed live at Carnegie Hall. I bought the double cds, it’s one of my favorite live albums. I’m going to order the 45’s and give it a listen.
The Analogue Productions issues of The Doors albums are simply superb. Im thinking of getting Morrison Hotel. The AP jazz titles are well worth getting. I got into audiophile records in 2015 and usually when i buy music these days its audiophile releases i go for. Great video Micheal.
Great video Michael - I 've found that John Coltrane for a good price here in the UK so have ordered. Pushing beyond my usual world of rock and metal into jazz now
I own all the doors analog productions and they sound amazing I also have the son house ,the folk singer , Nora Jones , time out ,love supreme , they all sound so amazing
Great channel and excellent recommendations! I have the original first pressings of 4 of these albums in NM quality, but would love to try the modern audiophile versions! Some of the albums are already too expensive to buy as first pressings and even as reissues, so I would probably end up buying all 20 albums 😊 I wish you and your channel a lot of success! Greetings from your southerly neighbour down in Switzerland.
Hi Michael. Just want to say I absolutely love your channel and look forward to the videos. Your passion and insights are very interesting. My wife though is convinced that I am the only person would would possibly sit through videos about vinyl record collecting! I assure here you have many fans.
Been a fan of audiophile pressings for a while now. And find funny that the Elvis Presley records from Analogue Productions is not mentioned? In my ears all of them sounds fantastic. Enjoy your channel a lot, so keep up the good work!
Hello Michael really enjoy your channel I bought the LA woman by The Doors the only rock group that really matters to me and the sun house who is my favourite blues man when they first came out almost 60 maybe you more years ago and they’re still my favourites great to see that you are letting people know about the older recordings that still sound good take care
Schön video Michael. I agree with your selection. It's fantastic! I would add: - Tea for the Tillerman by Cat Steves, - Love is the thing by Nat King Cole, - Scheherezade by Reiner and the Chicago, - Amused to Death by Roger Waters. All of them demo discos -at least for me- and gorgeous music. All of them in print/in stock!!
@@Michael45RPM Thanks. Now I see that Acoustic Sounds says "Limited stock". I would like to see a video about the records you are looking for this year. Based on your recommendation, I bought the Impex Sinatra and, oh boy, it is amazing. Listening to it is the closest thing to a party I've had in the last few months!
Another great Video - Absolutely loving your Channel - I would consider myself to be an audiophile and I have picked up so many great recordings based on your recommendations - Northern New Jersey loves you :)
Thanks to this video and respect for your advice and opinions, I just ordered 'LA Woman' and the Doors debut album from Analogue Productions. I can barely wait to hear them! A seller on Discogs said that The Door's debut from AP is only being sold now on 180gr vinyl rather than the 200gr. I wonder if there is a difference in quality? I didn't want to risk it, so I found a different seller and got the 200gr version. Thank you so much for all your advice. It's protecting us from buying those well-hidden "stinkers" out there on vinyl.😊
I should also add that I’m a recent fan of audiophile recordings and your videos are extremely helpful. For example, I had never heard of In and Out Records, Vinyl Solutions or Impex before I started watching your channel. Yours is the channel I check daily to see if you have new videos.
Just activate the Bell next to the subscribe button then you get a message when a new video comes out :-) but of course feel free to check in daily :-)
Hi Michael, Hitari is one of my all time favorite soundtracks, I was unaware that was available. Karl and Fredrick probably love the African feel to the music. I do need to get Muddy Waters Folk Singer, just a must for any blues collection. Thanks for the heads up on these. Steve
Once I saw the title, I knew this was going to be a great video. The only recommendation I am not entirely with is Pet Sounds. I had the 2016 180 gram vinyl edition and thought the mastering was not great. Maybe the one presently available is better? That said, I received my copy of Bill Evans at the Montreux Jazz Festival on 45. 😮Simply stunning! Jack DeJohnette is captured in a way I had not heard before. Very glad you recommended it!
4 stops for ads during this video. When not skipping all the ads, I really enjoyed your video! :) I'd not really heard of Analogue Productions previously, but after seeing this am keen to seek some out. I think my copy of Roger Waters's 'Amused to death' is issued by them.
I’m intrigued with what I hear of the sound quality of the 45 rpm releases and will buy one at some point to check out. I own a good number of the records you highlighted on LP so I’ll be on the lookout for a reasonably priced copy if that’s possible. Thanks, enjoyed it.
Michael I really enjoy your channel the doors and Son House you’re a man after my own heart I bought the first stores album two weeks after it came out how to move mono pressing regret getting rid of it didn’t understand the value of mono at that time Senos I’ve been listening for 50+ years there’s a not bad book That talks about his reemergence in the 60s call preaching the blues I can’t think of the author at the moment and also Norah Jones Ravi Shankar‘s daughter I have a good friend who lives next-door to her mother in Dallas and her mother was very pleased with the way that the blue note labelled treated her Keep up the good work and I’ll keep listening take care
The only title from the Analogue Productions label that I have among the ones you showed is "Time Out", which is absolutely fantastic. I also have The Doors' debut album, Miles Davis' "Seven Steps To Heaven" and Jeff Beck's "Blow By Blow". I'd love to get the 45 RPM version of Herbie Hancock's "Head Hunters", but it's expensive.
Sadly, after I watched this many of the jazz titles you mentioned are back ordered. Hopefully, they come back in stock. One album not on your list but which you included on your top 20 Jazz list last year is Bill Evans at Montreaux. That’s a fantastic sounding record.
@@Michael45RPM I looked just now after I watched your video and was looking at the 45s. I looked at the Analogue site. Do you have other sites I should look at. On back order was Muddy Waters, Dave Brubeck and Duke Ellington. Son House and Ella Fitzgerald-Louis Armstrong are in stock. I didn’t check the others. I’m also a Doors fan and that’s in stock.
I don't think it is in print but definitely around and obtainable last time I looked. Duke Ellingtons Back to Back 45RPM This record has an amazing soundstage and 3D separation of the musician and glorious dynamics
Cologne calling. Hallo neighbour. Very good choices Here. And a broad musical taste. From ella to Beach Boys. Bravo. Just Show a bit more Passion. Und ab und zu mal lächeln. Alaaf. Nevermind. 😉
Thank you for taking the time to shoot this video, I found it very interesting, certainly you have a very wide musical taste. Forgive me for commenting on a previous video, namely the half speed masters subject. I have only two records in this series from Abbey Road and honestly I find them to be no improvement on the original. I can’t help thinking that it is a marketing ploy rather than an honest attempt to provide better sounding records. Cynical exportation in my opinion.
Thank you very much for the tips! I feel like one of the previous speakers .... watching the channel run the risk of going bankrupt ;-) .... thank you very much for your choice! I would like to make a 'small' suggestion ... the discussion often revolves around new editions of historically brilliant recordings. If possible, I would really appreciate getting to know new recordings ... think of The Acid: Liminal, Ry X: Dawn; Fink: hard believer; Kari Bremnes and much more ... or do you also offer a discussion forum on FB or Instagram? Thanks and best regards! Michael
Michael thanks for your support because today there are a lot of records with poor quality. Your suggestions increase continuosly my wishlist. I changed my gear with Cornwall IV and ampli McIntosh MA252 and now I can’t accept vynil with poor quality.
Love Analogue Productions like I do MFSL. The Doors box set by Analogue Productions is must for fans of The Doors. Right now I only have the SACD box set as a placeholder until I can find the vinyl box set for a reasonable price.
A Simple question for you. What are the wrap around plastic covers you use for your records? I have a lot of the Tone Poet albums and saw that you have manged to wrap yours in some kind of protective cove
Michael, I like your videos and I am even more into Jazz since I watch your recommendations 😀. But I get the feeling that in the vinyl collecting scene FOMO (fear of missing out) is also a big driver....don’t know yet if that’s a good or a bad thing.
The original pressing of 'L.A. Woman' is a great recording in its own right, very dynamic and forceful. I'm sure that is one reason the new mastering came out so well. I would be interested in your doing a comparison of the two!
I haven’t seen all of this dude’s vids, but I have yet to see him show or talk much about original pressings. His collection appears to be focused only on audiophile reissues. At least the collection he shares with us. Other channels or forums out there focus more on such comparisons.
@Mark H. Thanks, I checked out his review, and he agrees that the OP sounds great (if printed in Pittman N.J. or Terre Haute Ind.) sounds great, all other reprints are shit EXCEPT this 45 rpm, which is the top of the heap.
I'm a recent subscriber (last month or so). I am really getting into better sound quality more.I have a couple of AP productions. Doors - S/T and L.A. Woman. Nora Jones - Come Away with Me Son House - Father of Folk Blues Dave Brubeck - Time Out (33RPM) Coltrane - A Love Supreme and Ballads Getz/Gilberto - the 33RPM version
I have all the doors on 45 rpm by Analogue productions and everytime I listen to them I wish they could do the who and led zeppelin, there 45 series vinyls are outstanding, I have tge classic records zeppelin titles but I believe AP could surpass them. Michael you have some fantastic vinyl.
Hi Michael, Congratulations for the channel! I enjoy very much with them. I have a question: what are the outer sleves you use to protect double albums? I used various of them and I find all too loosy and the album
I know this is too much to ask. Can you recommend a reasonable pair of bookshelf speakers? I’m looking wharfedale Denton. They need to be easy to drive. :-)
Junior Wells Hoodoo Man Blues Sam Cooke The Best of Sam Cooke Elvis Presley 24 Karat Hits Rimsky Korsakoff Fritz Reiner Scheherazade 45rpm version Bach Starker Cello Suites 6LP Box Set Royal Ballet Ansermet 5LP 45 version
do you buy the AP records directly from the acoustic sounds store in the US or do you buy them from a european store? i am hesitant to order directly from the US due to shipping and customs
With Analogue Productions, stuff will go out of print for a few years and then come back right? It seems that way with most of their titles. Also, on the Tone Poet Series, they are supposed to be “unlimited” persay, correct? Like they will be in print for years and years? I have so many titles to get right now, I need to make some tough decisions. Trying to save myself money in the long run.
The safest way to safe money is to buy them when they come out. I would not be too sure that they always come back. for the Tone Poets you are right they said that they will be available for quite some time; but i am starting to get unsafe that they keep up their word over at Blue Note ....
If I have a modest set up (Outlaw amp, Pro-Ject Debut Carbon, Zu Audio Dirty Weekend speakers) do these high end pressings make sense? Will my system extract the detail to justify the cost of these pressings?
Great video. My very recent journey into audiophile releases have been Ron Carter from In and Out (after your recommendation), and Di Meola, Lucia, and McLaughlin live in San Francisco from Impex, and a Speakers Corner release of a Deutches Grammofon Bartok album. I have gotten the bug, and appreciate the recommendations.
I grabbed one. I was just lucky to check out their site that day. The vinyl angels were watching over me. Can't wait to spin it! Could be the start of a great series since their parent company owns the Riverside label (think Bill Evans). I am hoping for a one step of Waltz for Debby and Sunday at the Village Vanguard!
@@DirkJensen I'm very curious about this release too. Could be interesting as I've heard that Craft has been spending billions on buying up rights to various titles recently. They could have some very cool upcoming releases especially in this 1 step format.
@@whitey7998 i had 45 euros shipping for a vinyl,record at 42 euros……!!!!!!(to France) and i paid 62 euros shipping for two,records … very expensive shipping
@@whitey7998and @Anton Verdonk You can pick up all the blue note tone poets, 80 series and classics through Juno, Rough trade and amazon on release day. They also stock nearly all of the past issues in the series.
And where were the two 45rpm box sets by Nils Lofgren "Acoustic Live" and Harry Belafonte "Live at Carnegie"? Both are available and sonically superior.
I do not disagree with any so I would have to have a top 22. I would add Dean Martin, dreamin with dean and Cat Steven’s , tea for the tillerman. My third choice was Tn Ernie Ford which you picked. That record will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up.!
The UMe series are not technically from Analogue Productions, which is a reissue label that licenses titles from the main labels. In the Verve Series, they simply hired Chad from Acoustic Sounds to curate the titles. The Analogue Productions Verve 2x45 titles are long out of print.
I've got originals of most of those--at least the ones I'm interested in. It's great that Chad does such a great service in reissuing a lot of classic LPs, but I can't rationalize buying them again just so i can compare and OG to one of his records. I've done it on occasion (Like with Miles Relaxin") and I still like playing the OG, even if it's got a few pops and ticks. I will say that around $40 a pop, they are a good value--better that the Mofis, IMHO. (I'm a graphic designer and I've always hated how MoFi has to ad their little strip across the top of so many classic LP covers.)
The frustration is that when one thinks of "audiophile" records, one is almost always looking backwards. Those are all old-person records. New music releases should receive the same respectful presentation. Cheers, Tom
As a young individual, I couldn’t agree more ! I have been thinking about that for a while, and I am far from being an expert so stop me if I’m not correct, but I reckon this is also to be blamed on artists themselves for discarding the analogue storing of their music over the mighty digital stuff. AAA labels are sought after for the first A as much as the two others, therefore it would be somewhat counterproductive for them to part ways with this first A ... Again, this is only my understanding as a rookie into the world of AAA.
@@loulax385 There are exceptions. The new release by Fontaine's D.C. was offered in a 2-LPs-at-45-RPM version and the new Idles album was offered in a mastered-in-mono version. Neither are full-stop audiophile... but somebody cared to some degree.
