You know, I'd just like to say that after finding your channel and watching a bunch of your videos, I just ordered my first round of puzzles yesterday. I love what you're doing and I love the enjoyment from watching these puzzles get solved. It won't be too long until I'm puzzling right along beside you. Happy puzzling!
I've been doing all kind of puzzles since I was 5 years old and still doing them 45 years later... a logical thinking mind and good patience is the best tool anyone could have... great work FLEB....
This is probably one of my favourite puzzles I've seen on your channel so far. I really enjoy puzzles that on the surface look complicated but actually have a simple trick to opening them.
I kept waiting for some kind of joke to hit and that the puzzle was going to have some really dumb solution, it sorta got me because it was just so expected
I love puzzles like this that look tricky but end up having fairly simply solutions! Sometimes I see people in the comments complaining that these types of puzzles are boring but I think they're awesome.
Yeah! It really stumped me for a while before I figured this one out. It's one of those puzzles that when you see the solution you're like "Of course! How come I didn't see that earlier?"
I love handing puzzle like this to people who don't solve puzzle on a regular basis. I really love watching them try to figure it out and then I try and think of how their mind is working. At times it is so hard not to spoil it for them and give them tips. I accidentally did that to Michael (Vsauce) when I gave him the Delta Hanamaya puzzle. I felt bad about it do I am sending him my second Nemesis Factor (like I said in that other comment) I "accidentally" ordered a third one.... to take apart and see if I can add a headphone jack and a mute switch.
Wow, what a beautiful puzzle! It reminds me a bit of the metal sequential discovery puzzles of Wil Strijbos, a puzzle designer from the Netherlands. I am pretty sure you know him as well. This video made my day after a long and tiring day of hard work :-). Thanks for this, great stuff!
The slot's not absolutely required, as the box wouldn't technically be *upopenable* without the coin... it would just require a thin screwdriver longer than the key+coin diameter.
You also might be able to open the puzzle from the underside keyhole, by letting the coin lie flat next to the keyhole and rotate the key's tooth against the coin to push the back out.
This is the first puzzle I've seen from you that made me laugh out loud. I love these kinds of puzzles with a fairly simple solution and a bunch of red herrings.
I didn't like the solution of the puzzle to be honest, but I loved the reason there is a tiny slit to put the coin back in so that you can re-open it later
so crazy easy and yet you can spend hours solving it :D Did you ever made your own puzzle? And how you get to the idea of solving puzzles and even making youtube videos the first time?
This guy is way smart. What I would do if I had these puzzles I would give it to him because I can't solve them. I'll just be like: "Oh a new puzzle?" Goes onto RU-vid Searches FLEB You make great videos!
FLEB "" people called me that back when i was at MIT "" hmmm ... im guessing you never played the game humbled as a child? HA HA HA ..sorry i just had to laugh at your phrazing but hell if i went to MIT id never take the T Shirt off 40 years larer.. well done !!! what an achievement... This country could do well with a few more proud engineers prop
I think I would have preferred a latch on the top that required feeding coins into the slot, then inserting the key in to bottom to push them up into the latch mechanism
I ordered my 20 cent box from Germany. Took 3 weeks to get to me. When I checked it out, the 20 cent coin was missing. I used a nickel at first to get it open, but then I ordered a 20 cent Euro coin from Ebay. The 20 cent coin is slightly larger than the American nickel. Would have been nice if they would have included the 20 cent coin in the first place.
Hi Fleb - love all your videos. Subscribed and thumbs up everything. But for the type of videos you do 1080P should be the minimum resolution you ever do. Do not make 720P videos - it is the wrong format, for the type of video you do.
this might sound weird but you remind me of carlos from the podcast welcome to night vale, with your passion towards puzzles and solving them, like his to science and solving phenomenons your voice is similar to dylan marron’s who voices him
Not gunna lie I figured this out before he said it. Well the way to open it. Because I didn't have it in my hands. I feel like if this took you more then 2 min to complete there's an issue
Hey FLEB. You mention many times that some puzzles are produced in limited quantities. Where should a new collector look to find new puzzles that get released by the makers you mention?
It depends on what types of puzzles! For mechanical puzzles, I usually recommend Puzzles Old and New - Slocum and Botermans New Book of Puzzles - Slocum and Botermans Creative Puzzles of the World - Van Delft and Botermans These three books show you a lot of classic mechanical puzzles while also showing you how to make some of them. Once you get more into it, there are more specialized books, but these give a good overview of what's been done and show you a little bit of the manufacturing side.
Those are great examples, thanks! I am a designer, mostly focusing on Ux in software, but I love to hear the design theory of all things. Your passion for puzzles hooked me. I would love any other examples you come up with, especially if they are theory, design or artistically focused.
The magnets are actually quite strong! One of the reasons the key opens it so easily by pushing down is that the magnets are right next to where the key is pushing. You can see in the video that the opening isn't controlled, which you might be able to do if the magnets were weaker. Shaking it or banging does not open the box, as I have just verified with my copy of the puzzle!
