First off, sorry I have been gone for a while. I have been on vacation so I have been unable to post any more of my series. However, I did have time to put together this video on Doo-Wop music.
Doo-wop (sometimes doo-wopp) is a style of vocal-based rhythm and blues music developed in African American communities in the 1940s, achieving mainstream popularity in the 1950s and early 1960s. Built upon vocal harmony, doo-wop was one of the most mainstream, pop-oriented R&B styles of the time. After finish this video I came to the conclusion that doo-wop didn't evolve much, but it's still nice to have all the top doo-wop songs wrapped up into one video.
Song list:
1953 The Orioles - Crying in the Chapel 0:05
1954 The Crew Cuts - Sh-Boom 0:30
1954 The Chords - Sh-Boom 0:55
1954 The Penguins - Earth Angel (Will You Be Mine) 1:20
1955 The Moonglows - Sincerely 1:45
1955 The Platters - The Great Pretender 2:10
1955 The Platters - Only You 2:35
1956 The Five Satins - In the Still of the Nite 3:00
1956 Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers - Why Do Fools Fall in Love? 3:25
1957 The Dominoes with Billy Ward - Star Dust 3:50
1957 Danny & The Juniors - At the Hop 4:15
1958 The Platters - Twilight Time 4:40
1958 The Platters - Smoke Gets in Your Eyes 5:05
1959 The Flamingos - I Only Have Eyes for You 5:30
1960 The Drifters - Save the Last Dance for Me 5:55
1961 The Marcels - Blue Moon 6:20
1962 Gene Chandler - Duke of Earl 6:45
1962 The Drifters - Up on the Roof 7:10
1963 The Drifters - On Broadway 7:35
1964 The Drifters - Under the Boardwalk 8:00

In the 60's I had a 1957 studebaker hawk and I would pick up Mary-lou and these songs were always on the car radio as we would just cruise the beat and listen to them. both Mary-Lou and my little Studebaker Hawk are long since gone now and I really miss them both,,What I would give to have them both back again and to cruise the beat just once more.great memories,

I was born in the early 80s, but my parents were both born in the 40s and grew up with this wonderful music. They got me into it when I was a kid and teenager and I discovered more doo wop groups as I got older. So many memories of these songs connect me to my parents. I agree. This music, a lot of came from Black singers and musicians, did more to integreate this country than all of the laws put together. I was a real demonstration to us that people are people, and not black or white, or dark or light. Unfortunately, today many have forgotten that message or just plain never learned it. In my late years now, I am sometimes ashamed of just how much America has wasted and gone backwards. I pray ever day this will change but, as much as I have searched the Bible, I have not faound the word America.

I loved listening to doo wop Music, growing up in NY. Even though it was before my time. The 50's and 60's had some of the greatest music And it's sad that a lot of the artists that sang these songs Weren't getting paid what they should have, especially the royalties ! And what's even worse is that Radio stations don't even play doo wop on the radio anymore. Today's generation of kids, are missing out on an whole era of music !

When you were born in the 80s, had parents that made you listen to hard rock & metal from the 60s & 70s, but you still somehow end up knowing every song on this list. I think it's because there was a big nostalgia for the 50s/60s music & aesthetics in the 80s. I've probably heard all of these songs, plus a ton of Surf Rock, in 80s movies.

@Kincaid7 Brown vs The Board of Education didn't pass till 1954, they had riots to get equal rights on many occasions, MLK and Malcolm X said many times how racist the country was and so did millions of his followers, Many innocent black men were accused of crimes that had very little evidence (Scottsboro Boys), Many white people got away with hate crimes (Emmet till case), Redlining was a LOT worse back then so I don't even though what your point was. In short, those photos were just to justify the separate but equal decision by showing blacks were happy. The truth never came out till later in the media because black people didn't have a voice in the government.

People argue about bringing this back... a LOT of modern kids who hear doo wop and Glenn Miller type stuff get hooked. Something about those genres draws their souls... Those never exposed, cant.

Wow. Doo wop. And it's amazing to know that looking at this tree of music, half the present tree top would be missing, if it weren't for doo wop. From reggae to hip, including stuff like house music and techno, would literally not exist if you were to take away this little building block.

I couldn't agree with you more because Doo wop is really about relationships between man and woman and for me, it also was very pure time with respect for one another. Try to get a man today to express his inner feelings of love or loss without thinking of sex first even though God did wire our brains to procreate in a marriage relationship.

When this music came out in 1953 thru 1964 I was only 7 years old. I just love my 50's music 🎶. Growing up in this era was so much fun for me. I remember cruiseing with my friends on Saturday nights. We would go looking for boys. The main drag was downtown San Jose. Good memories. 🙂😉😊😄😁😀🤗
