good to see 'Wings Of War' (or Gynoug as I know it) take a deserved place on your list. The final level is absolutely off the scale hard. I would have Thunderforce IV there as well. Spiderman wasn't too bad but I NEVER defeated the final boss as Mary Jane sank to her doom.
The Kingpin was impossible to beat for me. Loved that game, but could never beat old fatso! Rock hard. Shocked not to see Spiderman Vs. The Kingpin in this list!!
Just a FYI - the Contra title is a pun, as the "Corps" is pronounced "Core", so the title would actually be said "Contra: Hard Core". Which sums up the difficulty perfectly!
WHAT!!! No Hellfire took me about 6 months to finish Hellfire then tried it on HARD and rage quit on first stage. Also would just like to say Streets Of Rage 3 was awful and I don't mean awful hard I mean just an awful game first 2 were awesome that one just ruined it. OSG keep making these video's there great really takes me down memory lane.
Contra: hard corps is a GREAT game. Probably my favorite Genesis game. Hard? Yes and no. There's almost always a pattern you need to use to beat the boss. All you have to do is figure out that pattern and execute it. I guess Mike Tyson's Punch out is a decent comp in this regard. You go against a fighter for the first time and they kick your ass. You figure out what to do and how to do it and then they become super easy to beat. Discovering the 'method' you need to use and pulling it off is the secret to all the bosses on contra games that I remember. Hard. But fun. Great thing about the internet is you can see a full playthrough and find out what that pattern is on these guys. I think I was always a natural at figuring them out on my own and that's probably why it's one of my favorite game series.
I'm unfamilar with the MD and I must say there's some top looking games here, especially the shmups. I'll deffo check them out, probs for not very long though. Great vid m8 :)
I was wondering when gaiares was gonna turn up lol, games tough. I’ve been meaning to set aside a weekend to try and finish it for ages tbh. The music is unbelievable! I could listen to that 1st level tune all day.
can you believe, i have never owned or played on a megadrive, at the time of it's release i was too in to the amiga and that was the machine i owened until the nintendo 64 then i went for a dreamcast, then the original playstation
Yeah i was into Amiga too, but had a master system and Megadrive too ... i missed alot of later released games on both the Amiga and Megadrive though cos i too got a PlayStation and the others went into a cupboard
@@oldstylegaming i never saw the point in buying a machine only for playing games, i loved programming, i was making text adventures on my speccy at the age of 9, as got older i got into hacking games on the c64 then the amiga, so nintendo and sega were not my thing
Am pretty sure i got all the endings of Hard Corps back in the day (though i'm sure my copy was called Probotector for some reason). It was worth the effort and nearly destroyed controllers, though. What a game! So much to see and explode!
I don't think the MD Ghouls and Ghosts is especially difficult. I completed it probably a hundred times as a kid, when many of the others on this list I struggled immensely with. For GnG once you know where to stand, and when to just run and jump it's relatively easy, there's not much variation between plays that requires quick on the spot reflexes, frame perfect timing or thinking, it's all quite predictable once you've played it a few times. The original arcade is more difficult, as is the arcade Ghosts and Goblins (although mostly due to awkward control)
no problem, it's something I enjoy at the end of the day even if there's not been a great deal of emulation progress to report lately. I am hoping to eventually get into producing some content more like this, or some actual streaming, but I need to work out what I'm buying for all that first in terms of both hardware, and software if free / open software won't suffice.
Hi OSG, Your videos are still awesome, I enjoy them very much.... When i was a teenager in the early 90's , i remember staying one complete afternoon with my best friend to finish ghouls'n ghost twice time, normal journey, and the second one with the special weapon. And Yes, it was very hard.... We were switching the joypad everytime we died..... And another fact : my favorite games are shoot'em up, i falled in love with ThunderForce III that i finished many time, back in time.... But, when we tried Gynoug, we were also fascinated by this awesome game, with senstionnal music (like Heavy Symphonic Metal) And, after many hours trying hard the game : We were able to beat the last boss in normal difficulty mode.... It was so Hard, and we were SO LUCKY to finish the final stage..... I am not sure but, i think remember that at the end, The Game Told us : To see the last Scene, please finish this game in Hard Difficulty mode... !!!!!!!!! and then : we gave Up !! :( :( :( ^_^ (sorry for bad english writting)
@@rafaellima83 yeah as i said in the video i havent really had that much to do with it (wings of wor in this vid) but i will revisit.. its mega hard though i think well i get that impression off my first few goes
Musha wasn't too hard as long as you didn't die. Once you die and lose all your power ups then it was all over. I also beat battle toads I'm pretty sure.
@@oldstylegaming yeh awkward is better than hard, I got stuck after making it back to a near starting area if it wasn't the actual starting area, my saves In Landstalker and. Crusader of centy are still there over 20 years later How do the carts not die like the segacd/saturn
they will eventually i would say, they just a lithium battery i think...maybe they less power consuming that the CD and Saturn... i just replaced my internal battery in my Sega Saturn as was having to reset the clock everytime i switched it on
Ecco the dolphin was the only game I has back in the day that I couldn't finish within a couple of days. It took 8 days. I was stuck on that final level for most of it.
I personally managed to beat: Revenge of Shinobi (With grinding for lives) Streets of Rage 3, Musha, Robocop Vs The Terminator (With grinding for lives), Kid Chameleon (With looking up a walkthrough on here), Comix Zone, The Adventures of Batman and Robin (As a 90s kid and much stress), Alien Soldier, Ghouls N Ghosts, Wings of Wor (Using a trick to avoid using continues when I bite it), Battletoads (Using warps and after oer a month of trying) and Contra Hard Corps. Good list. I'll try for Chakan and Shadow of the Beast later.
how about the hardest master system games. That is a system I love learning more about that system. I grew up with a gamecube and still love it this day but I love learning about the older systems.
I'd agree with Hard Corps too - with the exception of some C64 titles (which seem to live in their own special world of solid as duck) it's probably the hardest game I've ever played. It's right up there with 'Z' by the bitmap brothers - which as far as I'm concerned should be covered by the Geneva convention.
How bout master of monsters? I have never seen that game beaten although its one of my all time fav's. Agree on the immortal countless deaths but rewarding when you make it further and further into the game.
Batman should be higher on the list (I can 't pass the first level). Contra hard cops western releases are brutal and unplayable for casual gamer. Try the Japanese version. it is fantastic and much more balanced, 3 life's with 3 energy bars and infinite continues. It a complete game changer and one of the most amazing genesis games
@@oldstylegaming Hellfire is a good example of game that could be there instead of MUSHA. Musha is too easy mate. It's not even average difficulty, it's ridiculous easy to the point of being a negative aspect of the game.
@@oldstylegaming Truxton isn't very hard too (at least the first loop)… the hardest bit is endure the boredoom of the first 2 levels when nothing happens and when you're nearly sleep BAAAM an enemy hits you from behind ;) But Truxton took me a while to beat. Musha went down on my FISRT TRY PLAYING IT.
IV played some of these but to be honest can't remember the difficulty it's been a while I don't if I have already asked this but we're in the UK are you from
Mega Drive version of Undeadline is the weakest one and the easiest one too. Still fucking hard :D Now MUSHA? MUSHA? What the heck? I finished it on my first go. I actually only lost my first life on the penultimate boss (The one with the bouncing purple balls). My second go at it I finished it without dying. Aleste games were all very easy but Musha was ridiculous. WHere is Dark Castle? :D :D :D :D :D :D
Great work as always! Target Earth would have easily been my number one. Don't think I ever legitimately got past the 1st level without using the invincibility cheat. As far as the shooters go, I would have probably have dropped M.U.S.H.A. and added any Toaplan game especially Hellfire and to a lesser extent, Truxton. Truxton gets easier as you learn enemy patterns but Hellfire is just plain impossible lol.
Wow I bought Undeadline last year and still not played it, but if you say it’s harder than Truxton and Thunder Force 3 I think I’ll leave it in the box😂
Its still worth playing mate its very similar to Elemental Master (think thats what its called) its a great game... cant believe youve got it and not played it...get it out now and give it a blast mate
@@oldstylegaming If you really like Undeadline, you REALLY should check the original MSX version and the the UBER GREAT X68000 version. The Mega-Drive version IMO is the weakest one (Not being developed by T&E Soft itself may be the reason). The X68000 version is just so frigging awesome.... and a LOT HARDER than the MD Version. The last level of that version I could never beat and I am pretty sure you can only beat it by dumb luck, that shit was impossible. But the rest of the game is amazingly good and you really should check it out :D
Chakan is a game i beat on a regular basis. I love the game to death since i grew up with that game. While people had mario and link i had chakan and ecco the dolphin lol
@@oldstylegaming The game has infinite continues and also has a potion system. Once you know how to farm potions and how to cheese the bosses it becomes a lot easier. It's way better on an emulator since you can actualy use save states to save your progress once you get tired of playing though.
