She had done better not to do anything. They should not have fought. They should have let the Germans occupy the USSR. I am sorry for all the people who died in that terrible war. I am the most sorry for the Germans. Being a defender is cool, but being forced to attack others is the most horrible hell for the soul.
What a true hero she was. Mistreatment by a supervisor yet she jumped on one to prevent harm to him. This young lady should be remembered forever. Thanks for the video.
First time I've heard about her. There's nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer. She was brave and beautiful. Thanks for sharing her story as I will now share it with my niece.
Excellent narrator and biographer. Great short documentary, extremely well illustrated and thoroughly entertaining and educational! Two enthusiastic thumbs up!
@@HoH Speaking of brave Soviet women, could you please do a video about the 588th Night Bomber Regiment (1942-1943) / 46th Guards Night Bomber Aviation Regiment (1943-1945), a.k.a. the "Night Witches"? Reference: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_Witches
War is terrible, she was incredibly brave. What a beautiful young woman, ashamed she didn't live to see the end of the war. She might have finally found peace, love and had those kids.
her family basically wiped out, I wonder what a universal conscription would look like. All adults (18 to 40) serve, gender indescriminate. The country would probably fail the next generation if 80% of those aged between 18 and 40 dies.
I am 70. My father taught me I could do anything a man could do, but I otherwise had to overcome active opposition to much of what I did, including from my mother. My great grandmother also supported me, sending me many book about women nurses and doctors. I would have been so thrilled to learn about women like this.
Good day, I am 65 years old, a very accomplished craftsman Blacksmith stonemason etc. and have been raising our granddaughter 3 to 5 days a week eight hours a day for 3 1/2 years. I have taught her she can be the boss. And teach her to use tools as well as arts and crafts and food preparation gardening and harvesting etc. etc. Also have two grown daughters that I taught as much as I could to them as well. They are very strong secure women. I also may add have given them unlimited love and encouragement. It’s very frustrating when these individuals do not give women the credit they deserve, generally in our society the women work very very hard at what they do. I commend them all ,they are all heroes. Thank you for being one as well as your relatives before you. Hope all is well and have a beautiful day. Jim
On one occasion in a trench battle a German soldier had apparently disarmed Shanina which resulted in a hand-to-hand struggle, she strangled the soldier to death with her bare hands. Just reading about so many of her kills its no wonder why everybody finds her terrifying
"The essence of my happiness is fighting for the happiness of others. It's strange, why is it that in grammar, the word "happiness" can only be singular? That is counter to its meaning, after all. ... If it turns necessary to die for the common happiness, then I'm braced to." ~ Roza Shanina in diary - one of her last entries, 1945
Such an amazing story, about an incredible woman. Such a sad ending, to a person who would certainly have given so much more had she not been killed. Such is the tragedy of war. Thank you for sharing her story, and keeping her spirit alive.
Sure, and to learn his borther was executed probaly would have enlightend her that the system she believed in is the same evil as the one she fought against. Fashism = Evil = Bolshevism.
What do you think about the actual situation? In Germany Putin gets described as something like a warlord and tyran. But in consideration of history it's probably not that easy...
I appreciate you sharing the history of this brave, tragic woman. The Soviets suffered horribly during that war, and I am sure there are many accounts of bravery and heroism which will never be told because those who witnessed the events were killed before they could be recorded. They are a strong people.
Russians were heros in that war and we all should thank them...If I only think that my country tried to invade Russia..... don't know if was more criminal or stupid
I like the references you give at the bottom of the "Read More" section. I wish more RU-vidrs would disclose sources. Thank you for a very fine upload on this brave person.
Thank you for keeping her legacy alive, we are indeed indebted to this fantastic woman, her story should be mandatory reading for high schoolers today.
Starting war in Spring's April, then complaining in December, 'bout the weather. Honestly, first time, I heard, Sovjets ran out of male personnel. Women should stay in reserve, do paramedic's jobs in the rear, when in army. Women at police can't even handle Muslim males in current Germany. Sad story, also for her brothers. Salutations, Ma'am ! (Jenna, Jentshina, was that the Russian word for woman ? Had been to Belaruß in 1996, Oz Narotsh, 6 weeks, visited Minsk, some memorial for an exterminated village, building straw-mud houses for Chernobyl refugees)
@@hamster2845 spell check... they come a dime a dozen. Not sure how that other sentence came up. Thanks for checking back with me on that. Not for nothing statues are a dime a dozen there as well, though that wasn't what I meant to say.
Thank you from free families around the world to this family for producing such an incredible freedom fighter heroine and beautiful woman. Her noble brothers too show what a fantastic family she had. RIP I hope so much, Roza Shanina, heroine of the grateful free multitudes.
Wow, now this needs to be a movie. Sad how she was mistreated before her end. She's like a female Vascili Zeitsev. I now want to visit her grave if I ever make it to Russia.
I have read the histories, very dry and dusty they are, but when you start reading the personal accounts of the combatants you get the horrific picture of how brutal war is for all. Thank You.
Thank you for such an excellent documentary based on this beautiful warrioress, who fought for her country even despite the harassment from her senior officers. The world needs more badass women like her!
Rosa Shanina was one of the countless and courageous Soviet women who fought the Nazis at the frontline. About 2,000 women snipers were trained to fight and many were incredible snipers like Lyudmila Pavlichenko (Lady Death - 309 kills), Nina Lobkovskaya, Lyuba Makarova, Tanya Baramzina,Anastasya Stepanov, etc. How much they suffered ! Hiding for hours in cold sweat and fear in marshes, bushes, hills and wheat fields in thick snow, cold winds and summer heat, always shifting places and defecating anywhere. One shot, one kill but inviting Nazi grenade and mortar attack. We salute and honor them all for their sacrifices and may their souls rest in peace !
They weren't Nazis - they were the Wehrmacht - the German army. Different entity, swept up by the times, and ignominiously treated by history. The whole thing is a tragedy at every turn.
Thankyou for sharing her story. We think we know about ww2 through history books, war films, and documentaries, but we don't really, and it's thank's to people like you that we are able to learn more.
Thank you, the story of a young girl with amazing courage. Standing up for country and her personal self, brave, brave girl. These are stories that children and young adults should be hearing. They’re wonderful role models , they’re genuine , not flashy , sometimes dubious people on is it called Instagram? My grandaughter thinks they’re wonderful! She’s 12 years old. People like Rosa are the role models to strive for here. Thank you 🦘🦘🦘🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Yes. Excellent role models. Not because they did killed when it was necessary. But because they fought so hard to get what was necessary for them. To get the right to fight in front for their country, to manage the hardships of war. To manage the hardships with molesting "collegues"... Today girls often give up too easily. They arent aware practically ALL the succesfull women of the past had to fight for what they got, for what they did achieve. Its seldom they got everything for free... Perhaps some high born noble woman, but all others got to fight hard for it. And so its today too, both for girls and for boys. If you want real success, you must work for it. There are no shortcuts.
When you think of what this girl and the people of my parents generation went through..... and then look at the weak kneed self absorbed trash walking around now.......
As we get older the history that has gone before us somehow becomes more poignant; my daughter is 19 soon - this amazing young woman saw things that my daughter will never see and that makes me very grateful. We should always remember the sacrifices that previous generations made and constantly search for peace.
And now , in this time, the Marxist are doing everything and everything to erase history just like they did over 70 years ago. We need to see more of this for the younger generations ...
What a brave and courageous woman. I had heard of her achievements, but the background story about her makes her accomplishments even more amazing. Thanks for sharing this information.
It’s a shame wonderful stories like this was not taught at any level (grammar, high school, or college) of my education. Thank you for bringing this story of this brave young lady to my attention.
Why would they teach this? History of a sniper, and not even the best isn’t really something someone needs to know even if they are training to be a sniper the information would be outdated.
@@justinmartin4662 History is history. To say that history is outdated is silly. I grew up in the 60s and 70s and this was the Cold War era. A more logical explanation would be that because she was communist, these things were overlooked. I don’t know if it was intentional or by accident. After the fall of communism in Russia A lot of things surfaced that were not previously known. My point simply was that I appreciated the history because I love stuff like this.
@@justinmartin4662 Well maybe if more people read first-hand accounts of the front-line combat soldiers they will be less inclined to jump on the war wagon.
If you were not there during that time, you would not be be able to understand very much about anything. Those women were gorgeous no matter what happened.
My heart melts for Rosa what an amazingly courageous beautiful girl she was loyal to the end ....i wish that i could have met her i wish her soul peace and pray shes found it.
Roza was same age as my mother (who was half German, half Welsh), and whose two brothers both served in WW2 -- the eldest of whom had fought against the Germans and lived to talk about it. This after slugging it out with Germany the better part of five years, from Africa to the Rhineland. As for me, my mother was just 21 when I was born -- exactly a year to the day following Roza's tragic death. Fate alone couldn't have predicted this outcome. And now, here in late 2021, my country's actively considering warring with Russia (???) And for what? And to what end? Good grief. What nonsense we have to endure these days, as though fighting Covid not enough. And yes, I am a veteran, too. Thank you for posting this.
Wow, Keep the stories coming. I have always known the Russian people were wonderful souls. Why there is a conflict even today with Russia I don’t understand. Stop this foolishness and let’s all get along.
Thank you for a better video share on this brave soldier. Her movie is interesting too. Thank you for the map and to Zoya for personalizing the war diary. What a professional touch. Prayers for your surgery, to ask that your pain passes quickly, & your recovery, Casey & Chickadee
the mere fact that she was determined to do her job at all costs, this in itself, proves she was worthy of praise from all over the Soviet Union, and all those who were over and beside her. Does not matter if she was big or not my friend, she did her job to the utmost of her God given talent. This I can tell you.
Except Lyudmila killed over 300 Germans in 12 months, then went to America, was befriended by Eleanor Roosevelt and Woodie Guthrie wrote a song about her. Roza was epic, Lyudmila ranks with the greatest warriors in human history.
@@revisit8480 its 2021 now and you still live in the past, she did more than you will ever dream off, just at 19 years of age she volunteered to fight and defend her country and she succeeded at that and made dent on history to extent that even after 76year since she died you are sitting in your moms basement watching her story and writing shit about her and her people out of envy, what a sad life you are living.
Why hell ? War is hell, as an ex Australian army man l understand. You do what you have to do. Arm chair experts know nothing of this terrible life that one has to do. Just remember its people like her and all military personnel who are ready to die so you can say nasty things. Try living in Nth Korea.
Wow...what an amazing woman! She was beautiful inside and out, humble yet determined. Her story reminds me a little bit of Marcus Aurelius who also kept a journal that was never meant to be published but we read it today 2,000 years later under the name Meditations. Journaling seems to be a tool of deep thinkers and those who truly understand life. I'm so glad we have this little bit of her. If only she could have lived a bit longer... Thank you for sharing this amazing woman's story. ❤
Not to be the negative one, but how can you compare a circus artist that was hurt in a train accident with a world war 2 sniper, on the Russian front? a 20 year old girl that dedicated her adult life to kill Germans or trying to kill them...
@@MrCastodian she faught hard to clear her name from false words from william Randolph Hurst and his media empire at the time Annie fought hard all her for everything and won a great settlement and battle at that time. Your right she got into a train accident but you only mention part of the truth and I only mention part her truth.
She, Ludmilla Pavlichenko and many others fought with honor and courage for their country. I can't imagine how much they would laugh at modern day feminists saying how bad they have it.
@@stevepodleski I never heard that. It sounds interesting. Do you know where I could read about that? Wikipedia lists her achievements and said nothing about a sham. Either way, she fought for her country and was wounded. She has done more than most. I will never berate her name.
Poor Dear. Such a cute little girl who suffered an untimely death. And she looks like an Angel indeed, but I bet she smelt horribly, like everybody else in the front. 💀 My Ukrainian wife’s Grandmother served as nurse in the Battle of Stalingrad, in the Eastern - Soviet held - bank of the Volga. First she bugged everybody to be sent to that Sector: less than two months afterwards she begged to be transferred. She was 19, and all that endless suffering was too hellish for her. The request was deferred. She passed away in 2014... Rosa is strikingly similar to one of my Stepdaughter’s cousin!
You could cover the life of Hector Bywater (British journalist wrote the battle plan for the Pacific war and published it in hardback in 1937) and also Seargeant Coward (Broke into auswich and lived as an inmate as well as supplied the explosives used to blow up the furnace etc). Both remarkable people. Both have little known biographies.
Very interesting story, how brave to die so young defending your country, actually my grandfather was on ship's that was part of the Russian convoys, Thomas Allen he was called and he never spoke about his time doing this.
Keith. My Father served in The British Merchant Navy, he also served in The North Atlantic Convoys, going up to Murmansk and Archangel. I totally agree, there is a small church in Belfast northern Ireland called the seaman's church it was really then that we found out how brave these men and family members were.

Got you topped. Hans Kohler was a Hitler Youth sniper who fought in the final 3 months of the war. He was credited with 17 kills. When the war ended he was only 15.
@@margarethancock4401 I don't doubt Rosa killed more - her career much was longer and she was much older and had time to evolve her craft. Kohler only had two years of shooting experience and was in action only 11 weeks.
I feel great respect for her heroic accomplishments for her Country despite all the pain she suffered and her extreme bravery. I am a Vietnam Era Veteran myself in the United States Navy
