The 2002 live action scooby-doo movie is SUPER weird, and nothing like the show! Shaggy look-a-like watches the Live Action Scooby-Doo movie for the first time! It's not only weird, but it's also nowhere near as kid friendly as I was expecting. | Scooby-Doo movie (2002).

I can't remember where I heard this, but it went as follows. James Gunn actually had an utter hatred of scrappy doo, so when he was put in the directors chair of this movie, he made scrappy doo as annoying as possible to him the most hated Scooby-Doo character ever. And low and behold it worked

I love this movie, but the scene with Velma on the piano was actually cut from the final take, you can tell whoever sent it to Peebs just spliced it in there by the difference in video quality. Also, James Gunn really hated Scrappy and that's why he made him the villain in this movie. He set out to make the rest of the world hate him and pretty much succeeded. I love Rowan Atkinson btw. This movie is good but the second one is so much more like the original Scooby-Doo. Peebs should totally watch it if he hasn't yet

Here's a really fun fact, originally old man Smithers from the beginning was going to be the mastermind, it's why the Luna Ghost's shadow is so prominent on the posters/home media covers, but early into filming they had the idea to make Scrappy the villain. Tim Curry was originally going to play Mr. Mondavarious but when he was told about this script change he hated it so much he walked off the project. In the years since Gunn has admitted making Scrappy evil was a terrible idea and has apologized for it.

@@GmmBeast Velma and Shaggy started the show dating, but they broke up almost immediately. They may have flirted with the idea of them getting back together, but not so much later in the show. I looked it up and it seems like her romantic chemistry with Hot Dog Water was more implied at the time (She calls Velma "my girl" for instance), but creators have later claimed it was their intention but couldn't be explicit about the relationship because of the network. Your guess is as good as mine if that's actually the case. Let's just say that by the end of the show the two are "very good freinds" and you can feel free to interpret that how you like.
@GmmBeast
@GmmBeast 10 месяцев назад
@@P3dotme I don't really put much stock into creators saying "it was our intention for them to be love interests," specifically about LGBTQ couples. It's easy for them to say that just to satisfy fans and to seem progressive, even if there is nothing implied at all in the book/movie/tv show. If it was truly their intention to have HDW and Velma be love interests, it's unfortunate that they couldn't bring it to fruition. But I'm happy to see Velma have a crush on that girl in one of the more recent cartoon films 🙂

I could tell there was a lot going over my head (also remember some parents including mine being a bit uncomfortable with their young kids), but the action scenes, CG (for the time, those goblins sure freaked me the hell out), and plot/climax were enjoyable enough. This was also just the era when these adaptations were gaining more traction, both this and the sequel released about the same time as Raimi's Spiderman ('02 and '04). Rewatching this though I can't help but be morbidly curious what those deleted scenes must have been to earn the original an R when there's tons of suggestive themes in the final PG cut.

It's been a long time since I last watched this movie, too. It's definitely a wild ride to look back at now, and definitely didn't age great in some ways. I think they were trying to buck the trend of what people expect from Scooby Doo movies and reboots, and make them act older or more matured, but at the same time forgot the target demographic are still kids.
