Character and personality wise Shawn was at his best from late 1993 to mid 1998 but in ring wise his second run was arguably the greatest any wrestler has EVER had.
This man is living proof that it’s possible to come back even better than he was during his first initial run And THAT superkick to Hunter at SummerSlam sounded like a damn gun going off
This was my first PPV that we ordered. I remember begging my parents to order it. Needless to say I had to do work around the house for one month to get it. My 12 year old brain saw that as a bargain.
I got to see it live at Nassau Colosseum great match! Also that was when The Rock and Brock had their fight with everyone knowing rock would lose to go film a movie
The way the match was booked & executed was a masterpiece. Best HHH performance in his career by far. The last time an "abdominal stretch" was seen as a crucifying move. I hate both men with a passion howver this match was & is pure gold
@@remo_1564 Triple Lame & HBGAY were the original Billy & Chuck. Triple Lame's reign of terror after being force fed to the top was an abomination to the business. And Michael's being Vince's personal Boytoy is the single most over rated wrestler in history.
Shawn cutting a promo on Triple H warning him to make the right choice and join the nWo with Nash writhing in agony behind him with a blown out quad is one of the most surreal and unintentionally funny moments in Shawn's career.
That match with triple h was incredible.. hBk thought he was done after he 98 casket match.. came back for a '1off'4 years later to an amazing showing... and multiple years later had back to back matches of the year with Undertaker at wrestlemania.. amazing
@@illkid86 no way, Brett was pretty good in ring, but he's not Shawn... plus HBK was 1000x more entertaining as a heel, and face, Brett had the personality of a wet sock
HBK was always superior to HHH, and he never missed a step in the ring. You could argue that his matches were better than when he wrestled in the 1990's
I HAVE ALWAYS SAID THIS❗️❗️Shawn was a better performer in damn near every way. Shawn deserved to be world champion at least 10 times. it sucks that he missed those 5 years, even tho i wasn’t even alive for 3.5 of them. Shawn was always better.
Shawn Michaels was at the end of his first run with WWE by the time I first got into wrestling and I always wondered what was the big deal about him. Good thing I was able to see what the big deal was during his second run with the company.
Yeah, the DX with Shawn and Hunter were my heroes back in the day. I was 11 and wrote (suck it) on my folders having had no idea what that meant, getting suspended for 3 days. 😎
I always said Shawn was the best ever. Something about the way he out it all together was just never matched in my eyes. He 100% proved himself to be the best after this return tho. He was everything a promoter with Shawn Michaels could have hoped for Shawn Michaels to be. It's a shame he did t get more title runs but he is the definition or not needing a belt to get over. THE main event, the headliner, the showstopper.
not only is hbk vs hhh absolutely amazing BUT the entire summerslam 02 card was stellar from beginning to end edit: bruce prichard says, "anyone hoping to become a wrestler one day needs to watch summerslam02"
I remember marking out like crazy when he returned. I haven’t seen a lot of his matches but I knew he was the man behind DX,so seeing him in the NWO was so random but still awesome.
@@robertlawrence4719 Yeah, I've said somewhere else that NWO and DX were originally two halves of the same whole, that being the Kliq. Of course that's something that only becomes clear in hindsight, mostly.
He was the first match I ever watched his win over BB. Man I was hooked Shawn is my guy then and now. Still a hero of mine dude was easily the best to watch.
I'd have to say I agree that HBK return run was better than his first run but only because I missed him when he was gone so I cherished the moments we got to see.
HBK was set to return to the ring in 2001 but he got fired on an episode of raw because he was pilled up backstage starting on HHH. It was that Raw episode when Chris Jericho dressed up as doink the clown.
It was the Raw before WrestleMania 17 on March 26 2001. The same Raw that had Vince announce he brought WCW and was the last episode of Monday night Nitro.
Kevin Nash was/is the glue for them. He is very loyal to his friends but I feel like the Cliq members are the only ones he consider that. They hurt my feelings when they had Triple H turned on him along DX
I remember my parents wouldn’t let me watch WWF/WWE in 2002 so I found out about Shawn Michaels being in the nWo from playing SYM at a friends house. Good times
HBK's 2002 return was awesome, and that first match with Hunter was epic. I definitely agree that his second run was better than his first. He had match-of-the-year contenders every year, sometimes multiple.
he had the best second year run in professional wrestling history and the best comeback in professional wrestling history but his first run was better in my opinion the promos the charisma the performer the showman the character the popularity the looks the bret hart heated off and on screen rivalry first hell in a cell match first wwe ladder match he had it all from 1992-1998
Summerslam 2002 my favourite summerslam. The second half of 2002 had some of in my opinion the best ppvs from Summerslam to Armageddon. It was a constant streak of great shows
Edward Coupe most definitely also edge and Eddie had an Amazing match as well as RVD and Benoit. just the whole show I could watch that show and any show from summer slam to mania 19 (minus a few matches) lol
Wow did not know that 4K was around in '02. Summerslam '02 with HBK back in the ring again is amazing to watch, I watched him around the mid/late '90s when I was a kid and seeing him in the ring again after what happened at WrestleMania 14 was surreal.
@@Bit2brain Well I know he was just joking with the 4K comment so I was just playing along with the joke. I know that feeling about how people online act like and sometimes it could be hard to tell if their joking or not.
Shawn Michaels second run in the WWE was way better than the first! he had the matches with HHH the match with Jericho the two matches with Undertaker definitely a hundred times better than his first run
Nash was not cleared to wrestle that night and apparantly had no idea he was going to have to wrestle that night and did not have his knee brace. He was told that being a tem man tag he would not really have to do anything but just stand on the apron but was given a hot tag .
Wrong. A peer is someone at your level. Listen to all the NBA players equal to Kobe speak on him and listen to most wrestlers with any name recognition speak of Shawn. Kobe and Shawn are both held in high regard in their respective craft. The vast majority of their hate comes from internet trolls.....which is meaningless
Nah. Had he never returned that might have been the case, but his run from 02-10, took all that sadness away. He’s a legend, pure and simple and had a great second career.
Michaels was billed as the greatest ever in-ring performer upon his 2002 return and ironically, that billing turned out to be more true during his second stint.
I wish they got triple h to join, followed by Gunn and road Dogg. Then try to get hall back. Only for a split where dx and nwo would feud, with Hogan returning to the white and black, and pac being forced to pick between his friends. Finally, pac would join dx and convince hall and Nash that Hogan was only in it for himself.
Hall was destroyed by this point. Gunn was on Smackdown doing the Billy and Chuck schtick. Dogg had been fired for over a year because he was drugged up far too much.
Reading what you wrote I thought you were going to say Billy was doing Chuck over at smackdown. 😉 But seriously I would've had HHH go to nWo and SHAWN lead the 2002 version of DX with x-pac, Mr. ASS along with Chucky and Rico and eventually resigning Chyna back. Cause you know you cant have HHH on the side where Chyna is.
@@meteornome2556 when the Kliq is formed, road Dogg and Gunn join Hogan, also recruiting The Big Show and Scott Steiner. The two factions feud heavily until the nWo is drafted to Smackdown and the Kliq is drafted to RAW. After a year of build up over which side truly is more dominant the Kliq and the nWo eventually have one final feud building to Survivor Series where the losing side must disband or lose their jobs. The nWo gets off to a fast start, with Big Show eliminating Scott Hall and XPac. But, with Nash Triple H and Michaels tagging in and keeping the Giant isolated the finally drop the big man. Steiner is able to eliminate Shawn with the Steiner Recliner, but Shawn super kicks Steiner into a pedigree to eliminate him. Nash and Triple H are able to knock off Gunn and Road Dogg, but Hogan eliminates Triple H. Then Nash and Hogan have a stare down before finger poke of doom. Kidding. Nash and Hogan battle it out, with Hogan eventually losing. Steiner and Hogan refuse to disband and are fired - Hogan retires because screw hbk Hogan 2005 and Hogan Orton 2006. Steiner wrecks Smackdown for a month before getting an opportunity to wrestle for a contract at the Royal Rumble against... BROCK LESNAR!!! The New Age Outlaws reform and become part of the SmackDown 8. Big Show has 50 more face and heel turns of course. Hall becomes the mouth piece for the Kliq. Shawn and Nash become tag partners. Triple H becomes world champ on RAW. XPac becomes Intercontinental champion.
His Unsanctioned Match with Jericho & that Last Man Standing Match with HHH are 2 of my all time faves (literally right up there with him & Taker at Mania 25 & 26). I was a fan of his right from the beginning, a great mix of incredible in-ring talent & charisma/damn good on the mic, and The Barbershop heel turn is easily my fave moment in wrestling history (I remember screaming for joy at the TV when Jannetty tried to escape... lol, thanks Bobby).
Great video but something I always wanted to see and or hear about is what Shawn Michaels did to repair his lower back injury what kinda surgery did he have what kind of training routine exercises or stretching did he do did he use decompression machines like I know the LordX decompression machine was developed in San Antonio,TX as someone who suffers from a lower back injury myself it amazes me what Shawn could do in the the ring after returning from his injury and the Wrestlemania 14 main event is one of the Matches that comes to mind when I hear someone say Wrestlemania the fact that Shawn was wrestling with a injured back and Austin was wrestling with a broken neck injury that wasn't surgically repaired says how important the main event at Wrestlemania and the WWF World Champion really is the end all be all of professional wrestling.
Id like to know what he did too. Remember that this man is/was an exceptional athlete when he took injury. The way he described getting back in the gym sounds VERY dangerous, like he just decided "hey i got to quit being pansy and just go in there and DO it. " now there's no way in hell he could have done that unless he KNEW, for a FACT, KNEW himself and knew he could somehow handle it. Because otherwise it would be extremely easy to re-injure or damage something further.
This is all I could find online about the surgery: When Shawn Michaels hit his back on a coffin in a 1998 match against The Undertaker, it looked far from devastating. It appeared to be just a glancing blow, but the blown spot ruptured disks in his spine and forced him to stop wrestling until 2002. A four-hour surgery fused metal plates to his spine. Michaels missed a significant chunk of his prime and essentially missed the crux of the Attitude Era. Fans often wonder how many more classics he could have produced and how different the WWE landscape would have looked had Michaels not collided with that coffin (Dilbert, 2012).
I heard that he herniated a couple of discs, which is definitely a serious injury, but even with an op, should have only needed a year off absolute max. I currently have a herniated disc and get severe sciatica with it at times but I can still go gym and work in the building trade with mostly no issues. Apparently he had no desire to return due to his drug issues etc hence being off 4 years
Triple H and Shawn Michaels' relationship might be the most enduring and long lasting friendships in Pro Wrestling. I certainly couldn't name another that wasn't romantic or relative. The only real rift between them seemed to be at the time Shawn was fighting his demons. The crying like little girls comment warmed my heart. To think that Hunter and Shawn had some of the best feuds left to come between them and yet at that moment in time he was there for Shawn. SummerSlam 2002 was genuinely my first foray into Pro Wrestling and I was a kid back then. I still remember that promo package at the start of Shawn revealing that Triple H was the one who attacked him. Back when I thought wrestling was all real I hated Triple H for what he had done! But over the years Shawn and Triple H and their feuds made me appreciate them more and more. To the point that those two along with Chris Jericho are my top 3 favourite wrestlers of all time. HBK, HHH & Y2J. Their heydays was some of the best time in wrestling that I had ever had.
I remember leading up to Summerslam some family and friends made promises that I could come watch the ppv at their house and st the last minute nobody came through so I ordered it myself and remembered having low expectations for the Shawn vs Triple H match and boy I was not disappointed. The ppv as a whole was great but that match was the highlight, I'm glad I took it upon myself to order SS and enjoyed it by my damn self.
remember i had no exposure to the wwf in my early childhood. WCW was on ITV and I saw a few of those shows. I got WWF warzone for ps1 and Shawn Michaels was my guy in that game so I was a big fan despite never seeing him wrestle. This comeback was huge for me because I finally got to see my guy in a video game really wrestle. Had saw clips before that, but (now that I've seen most of his mid 90s run) I had no idea how good he was. It could be argued that his second run was better than his first.
I was born in 90. And fact is, shawn micheals is easily the best wrestler ive ever watched. That ironman match vs bret hart was it man. I adore Austin but even his match vs the crippled micheals i wanted micheals to win. And think it was a good match still
HBK only held the WHC title for like a month after his comeback and then dropped it, I wonder if he decided to not have title reigns because of his backstage antics during his first run or that he simply didn't need them anymore as he was over without them.
Man people started hating triple H a couple years after this storyline but this storyline is the perfect example of how great the long-term character-building and how well-thought out the angles were back then. They could have had this match under any circumstances but they were smart enough to do it in a way that turns michaels back into a babyface while furthering the "cerebral assassin" psychology of the Game character. The product hasnt been nearly as good since 05 or so, mainly because of the pg era. Ive heard they are trying to end the pg era with the switch to streaming...I can only hope so, but theyll have to create better characters than they have been too. Hopefully having the artistic freedom of a tv-14 rated program will bring back good characters that feel real and authentic, even if they are a little outlandish.
I fractured my L1 vertibra 7 months ago and definitely herniated a disc or two (couldn't afford my follow up neurologist appointment to verify with an MRI). My injury was very similar to his. I don't get how he wrestled a month or two later. I tried to go back to kickboxing after a couple of months and it was the worst experience of my life. When I went to kick a bag with even the slightest bit of power, it felt like a bolt of lightning shot through my spine. For whatever reason, I felt like I could heal it through hard work against all the doctors advice and did everything without my barce. Basically it's been over half a year and it still causes me issues on a daily basis, but it's slowly getting better. Still, I'm 28 and better shape than most people and a broken back is no joke. It's hard to comment on his second run because it was post surgery. The fact he did WrestleMania 14 though is genuinely the most amazing feat I've ever seen in my life.
Grate Video But I Think You Should Of Mentioned The Raw B4 Summerslam When It Was HHH VS The Rock And It Turned In To A Brawl With Both Brock And HBK Getting Involved And HBK Gave Brock Sum Sweet Chin Music Sending Him Over The Ropes B4 Jumping Over The Ropes On To HHH Has This Was The 1st Glimps Of HBK Fighting Since He Left WWE In 1998.
