Let's get Phil Schiller to see this video! You can tweet this video to him by clicking the link in the description. Thanks for watching, everyone! Harris
Currently using the 2017 10 5 iPad Pro, and I agree with everything you said. Kindle books , One Note and Notability is all I need. Nice video, brother!
The perk that stood out to me was that you record your lectures. I wish I had that ability when I went to college. Heck, I wish I had a computer, back in those days. They were using punch card technology when I was an undergrad. Its great all of your books and notes are on the iPad and you don't have to carry them around anymore.
I second that! It is an awesome app available for Android and Apple! But the actual version costs $4.

@@dumpling3309 same I use a free version on my s9+ and it makes it like a tablet PC, I just connect a compact Bluetooth mouse and keyboard combo and that's it.
I love my iPad. As a biochem major I’m always drawing structures and taking copious notes, and I love how organized and interactive my notes are. I’ve got all my textbooks on my iPad as well, and notability is simply the best Application for my day to day life at school. I seriously have no idea how I got by without it.
Oh my gosh i have been looking for a comment like this...do you find yourself needing to use the keyboard? I am debating getting one for when I graduate next year, but the hefty price makes me wonder whether the typing feature is worth it since I prefer handwriting anyways..
Michael Benson even for typing? I thought thats the one downside... really considering to get one now, starting with law school this september :) would really appreciate your feedback
I love doing calculus on the iPad. Some questions takes like 2 pages to complete, you’d understand, ratio test, convergence, the lot. I love the ability to read and annotate my textbooks on the fly, whether I’m commuting or lazing on bed. I’ll probably die of backache lugging engineering textbooks around before the end of my 4th year.
Great video Harris! Super informative! My I Phone XR is performing flawlessly! I'm really enjoying it! Merry Christmas to you and yours Harris! Mark in Iowa.
It's so great, just like a small computer. For me, I bring my MacBook Pro to go to class every day so I can quickly code read the e-text or print, do pretty much all thing. However, I still love using something that I could write on like this ipad Pro
I’m glad you like the new 2018 iPad Pro, I’m not a student but I do some freelance work and this tablet is amazing Harris I’m glad I could see someone else perspective for once as I’m an artist and that’s my primary reason for this device.
@@spaghetie I do music, take notes and do vid editing with mines... using the pencil gives you better precision that you don't always get with your finger
I have the second gen, with the Apple Pencil and it’s helped my work immensely, I’m a first year studying drawing at degree level at university, so sketching, and note taking often go hand in hand!
There is actually a filter function of zoom in all of apple's portable devices, which can dim the display. (Just go to settings-accessibility-zoom and choose the Low Light as default in Zoom Filter) I think that function might be useful to you.
Hi Harris, Few questions regards the iPad pro. 1) have you used any Microsoft apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) if so, how's the experience ? And is the experience as similar to the desktop version? 2) In terms of note taking, I know that you use notability. But would you prefer to use Microsoft office or notability? And which one is easier to navigate through ? I'm a university student, and I'm just contemplating between a sruface product or this ... Thank you so much!
The biggest issue for me is its durability, iOS, and lack of proper io on a portable device. I think iPad is great but these things just bring it down way too much sadly. Good video though.
Exactly what I think. But if you already have a computer or a laptop capable of doing most of the things, the iPad is going to do the job for note taking. However, if you dont have a laptop, what I did personally was going for a Surface Pro 6, and I don't regret it at all. I love it so far.
@@AlvaroQN98 Yea it could, but the problem is the price. I saw 2017 iPad Pros going for $300 on best buy. That's what they need to be if they don't replace a laptop.
A STANDARD APPLE OPTION should be what it does “luna display”, but without external drive like “luna display”! And then, WHY APPLE does not develop a SINGLE OPERATING SYSTEM between macOS e iOS? And then, WHY APPLE not develop a REAL MULTITASKING that opens more different app and even MORE WINDOWS of the USUAL APP?
Is the 11 inch good enough for multitasking? So is it comfortable to use for example while having a textbook open and notability at the same time? Great video by the way, keep it up.
I use it for my upper div stats classes, and it is very nice with notability and the cloud service. I use the Mac Pro only for coding. And the iPad for everything else. It’s quite amazing
very nice video, I really like all your videos, I wish buy a iPad Pro 2018 but I guess im going to save money for the iPad 9.7 2018. what do u used more your iPad Pro or your MacBook Pro
I went to the apple store looking for a laptop for college and an employee said, “have you thought about using an iPad” and I was like “uhhh no thanks??” But I’m actually thinking about it now! Just the video I needed!
Well done video. I am glad to see any iPads being used in schools and colleges for other non-creative things. You are another real person and proof that real and meaningful work CAN be done on an iPad/iPad Pro. Screw the naysayers that say iPads/iPad Pros are just “toys”! Good video!
Good video. I still think pen and paper is the gold standard for taking notes for classes. The only indispensable etool is cloud computing via google drive w/ android or better yet icloud across apple devices.
That’s so amazing!! I’m going to do this with the new iPad they’re going to release in March (10.2 inch) and the Apple Pencil. But I still can’t decide which is better for everyday note taking, GoodNotes 5 or Notability?
It's good video..👍🏻♥️ Now we want another video about best apple app for students (your opinion) of course. Thank you 🙏 ♥️ Big fan from (Saudi Arabia) 🇸🇦🇸🇦😍
I went to Bunker Hill (a comm. college not too far from BC) and all I took to school everyday was my bag, a folder, my 10.5-inch iPad Pro, and my 1st Gen. Apple Pencil. It was an amazing experience and I’ve never enjoyed taking notes and studying so much more. I feel the urge to upgrade though 😩😩😩
Really good video! Enjoyed seeing a practical application of the iPad! I do a lot of the same with my Lenovo Yoga 720 laptop for notes and such! Enjoy your break for the semester! 😁
I’m typing this on the 2018 iPad Pro 11’’ and I’m using my iPad to read books on the books app from apple where you can hilight things that I would need for class. I also study and take notes on my ipad. And i love it. I also have the apple pencil and the fact that its magnetic is so handy. Now you dont have an apple pencil sticking out of your charging port.
I personally don’t think I will be able to adapt to coding on IOS and on an IPad. It’s a little small and I have to use my hand instead of my mouse which will feel weird. I’m not telling it’s not possible to code on IPad, I’m telling it’ll be a worse experience than coding on a PC or laptop. But people have different preferences so they can do whatever they want.
As always well articulated and presented video. Either apple or Boston college have work to do on printing however perhaps they should save the trees and accept pdf by email instead? Clearly the ipad meets the use case very well
You may have convinced me to buy the Apple keyboard case for my 11” iPad Pro. I was initially holding off for a decent 3rd party option, but the slimness of the official one makes me think it’s a better choice for everyday carry.
Here's a tip--they have this technological advance now called a "spiral-bound notebook", and if you invest in one or more of those, you also won't have to deal with loose pieces of paper. In fact, you can easily carry around a semester's worth of notes in one. I'm guessing that you don't get a lot of street-cred from the Linux users in your Comp-Sci course (unless you ported Linux to your iPad, in which case, you might...)
Nice video. Do you feel the 11“ is enough and that the 12.9“ would be too big? Can’t decide yet. Because the 11“ is really great for holding in hands and portability, but the 12,9“ is actually closer to the size of a sheet of paper
Pretty much everything talked about here I can do on my 10.5” iPad Pro. The only thing I wish is for the new Pencil setup but honestly, I’ve never lost my Pencil cap & charging it through the Lightning port isn’t a deal-breaker. Otherwise I use iCloud Drive, split screen, iWork, & media consumption on my 10.5” Pro every day & I love this machine. Won’t be upgrading until it becomes absolutely necessary.
wow my teacher back in high school used to let me use the blackberry playbook when tablets "weren't exactly the norm" and almost no one used them in my school.. guess he saw the potential of a table in class back them before anyone else
I honestly never considered using a tablet in college until I started developing scoliosis from carrying all these books plus my laptop 😭 but on a serious note this video is very good and informative. Can you do a video on the best iPad friendly printers? I hear it’s hard to print things from a tablet
I dont like this video so much, it show only ipad standing on the keyboard, ubt not taking note or creating notes. We are watching all notes already taken and perfeclty aligned. I would like to know if is worth to use it as mostly a "notebook"
Harris New to your Videos you showed up in my feed but Awesome that they are finally letting student's bring it to school because at one time that was definitely not a option. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and creativity on how it works for you.Hopefully more will come around to the idea.I am aware of the new products that don't work with what they have in Such institutions as well as Companies and wish you the best. Thanks so much for sharing Deb 👌✌
I'm getting an 11in. iPad Pro for Christmas and I was going to use it for school, mostly because of these videos, but there were other reasons too. 1. What size do you use? 2. Should I be worried about any of this Bendgate stuff going around? 3. On that last topic, do you have a bag or computer case to recommend? I don't want to carry it in the back of my bag, but I still want to use it for sdchool.
I’m thinking about buying an iPad for school. I currently have a 2015 MacBook Pro, should I trade it in to have enough money to buy the iPad Pro? Or should I just buy the other iPads such as the air or the budget one?
I love your review. I’m still deciding between the 11 or 12.9 iPad Pro but it seems like most college students opt for the 11. I’m strictly online so portability isn’t an issue but the 11 seems like an ideal size. Do you have any regrets going with the smaller model?
12.9 is the best,I have changed my ipad pro 11 to 12.9. Because when I separate my screen 11 is too small so I have a bad feeling of 11 ,trust me 12.9 is the best!
Okay so the 120hz promotion display is a must for me, so I am wondering if I should get spend the extra 500 dollars to get the 2018 iPad Pro instead of the 2017 iPad Pro. Is the new Apple Pencil (with its's much MUCH better charging mechanism) , usb-c, thin bezel worth spending 500 dollars on?
As far as test taking... some tests are online and teachers ask to use webcam during the test (so they make sure you don’t cheat) are you able to do that on the iPad Pro?
Thank you for the nice review. I'm considering buying one for med school mostly because of the recording ability of notability. Since you also mentioned it I wanted to ask you what storage did you go with?
Do you notice any screen flex when writing with the table laying flat on a table and your hand resting on it? I'm right handed and when it's laying flat, the screen flexes. You can even press down on the screen and hear it clicking and see it move. Is that normal?
Really helpful, I think I'm going to upgrade from my old 5th gen iPad to one of the pro's! If you're still studying computer science you should check out code-server, I use it to code on my current iPad on a server rather than using something like Pythonista
The only thing for me about the 11 to the 12.9 is split view. If I split a website and note on the other side, the size of words from the website will adjust to the screen and I can see all of them, just less words per sentence but the words are bigger. However, when I split view some books, I barely see the words. They too crammed unless I zoom in which I will lose half of the sentence. I hope I can do something about this !
Hi, I saw your Goodnotes vs. Notability video. I was wondering if you have a preference now in college vs. high school. I'm debating if i should buy both or just stick to one for college.
reasons to get the 11 inch over the 12.9? or the 12.9 over the 11?I take a lot of notes using Goodnotes and Notability. Currently using the old 9.7 inch and its just showing its age now so time to trade up.
have you written any papers on your ipad? i have a fairly old (2011 macbook pro) computer and was looking to either get the air or the ipad for uni and was wondering if i would be able to write a paper on the ipad and have it be my main computer. i would still bring my old laptop with my as well. do you think this would work?
Hey man! Love the video. I am looking forward to getting the iPad Pro 2018 11 inch, however, I am now fearful due to all the "bending" issues that people are talking about. How has it been holding up for you? Are you putting it in your bag at all? (Apparently doing that puts enough force on it to bend, as per some users) What are your thoughts on the situation? Any help would be appreciated!
Have you tried using a Surface device as your main university device? I'm looking to get a tablet for my next year and am wondering which one would be better.
Hi, what apps do you use for writing? Would be grateful if you could share with me, as I am know going to use this ipad to make my thesis but not sure on what apps that will be great . Thanks
I've just bought the ipad pro 128gb and im still hesitating if I should return it and buy the ipad air 4 256gb... I'm in med school so i will use it just for note taking, lectures, lots of books and pdfs... Should i stay with the pro 128gb (is enough?) or should I buy the Ipad air 4 256 gb?? The only thing that concerns me is the storage. Is 128gb enough for just medical school stuff or do I need more than that?????
