The 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63S Wagon is the Perfect Daily 

I will give Mercedes this. The one big thing that the E63S has over the new M5 is just the pure fact that it can be had in a wagon. Which is just glorious if you ask me.

The lovely driver letting you pass at 7:35 is why we need two beep modes in all our cars: the courtesy beep (double blip) and the fuck you beep (standard).

Anyone that buys one of these is automatically awesome.

These fast German Wagons are incredible all round pieces of equipment. In Europe we also benefit from the RS6 Estate (that's English for Wagon:-)) But, there's always a "but" right? You lose something. Feel, driver involvement. They are so powerful, so fast that they are now supercar fast. So much so that supercars are now producing space shuttle levels of power which can't be used. Look at the 812 Superfast as an example. If you want one car that does everything then you're going find it difficult to argue against an E63 Wagon (or RS6 if you're in the rest of the world). Trust me though, you drive one for a while and you start to feel that something is missing, some sort of driver interaction, the feeling that you are actually part of the car and making it go the way it goes. The comfortable cosseted surroundings that disguise the speed and astonishing progress these cars make that make them the perfect continent munchers numb the enjoyment and involvement of driving. At that point you hanker for something more analogue. So lets say you can afford 120K+ for a car, that means you can probably afford a couple of cars. At 120K would you take an E63s over say a 575 Maranello and a runabout daily driver? I tip my hat wholeheartedly to the technology that has made these cars a reality, but as they've evolved a little bit of envolvement and love and enjoyment of driving died with the evolution. What do I know? I own a 2017 4.0 V8 twin turbo German wagon, it is the best all round car I have ever owned or driven, by a country mile, but on a sunny Sunday morning when I want to drive for the sheer pleasure of driving, I open the garage and pull out something altogether older and more analogue.

These things are always phenomenal sounding....have never driven anything AMG, so can't comment on their ride quality.

You need one of these in your life Matt, your friends and Hanna would be very happy to ride with you !

Skyline is SO fun & beautiful, but my buddy actually spun his E36 M3 into the guard rail near Alice's. I'd feel a lot more confident driving a well-planted AWD beast like this up there.

I wonder how many accidents nowadays are caused by people looking at the screens in their cars and fiddling their way through it all. A knob or a button, you can press/turn without looking - not so with a screen.

Great review. Great car. People always talk about the high depreciation of Mercedes Benz especially the AMG cars and the high ownership costs but it is a $120k twin turbo charged high performance car. What else would you expect? I believe if you can afford to properly maintain these cars you will enjoy them for many years.

Now I'm only about 2 minutes into the video right now, so I'll edit my comment along the way, but I noticed you got a close-up of the seat controls on the driver's side... If you look carefully, while the passenger's side has only the normal controls, plus buttons for the heated and cooled seats, the driver's side has a third button with the picture of a seat labelled "R." If you push that button, then it makes the driver's side seat controls take over the controls of the passenger side! Even if you hit "R" then turn on the heated or cooled seats, it'll do that to the passenger side instead. However, if a passenger is sitting there, their controls will cancel out the driver's controls. I've tested it out with my aunt in her 2017 E300, and it was pretty neat. She and I were laughing the whole time, but it's great for when my grandma gets in the passenger seat and can't figure out the controls -- my aunt then just takes over and adjusts it without reaching over. Edit 1: 5:50 So, I'm not the only one who hates having all these gears? I honestly feel that for an automatic, 5 speeds is perfect, 6 speeds is pushing it. My mom has a 2016 W205 C300, and in manual mode, having 7 speeds is pretty obnoxious... Having to triple-click the left "paddle" to go from 7th to 6th to 5th to 4th just to take off nicely is a little bit too much... Edit 2: How are the Pilot Sport 4S tires? I run Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires on my 2002 CLK430, but I'm looking for something with a tad bit more grip and perhaps a bit quieter...

This 60-miles-ride in this landscape may be even better than me doing the 160-miles-ride on Autobahn. Engine sounds good when it uses 1/3 of its power only. Like one of the old US V8s.

You do know that if you hold the down shift paddle for a second it will take you to the best gear to do a pull so you don't have to downshift 5 gears

I'm a valet, and I have driven a few of the newer AMG models, and they're absolutely incredible. My viewpoint is sadly from the speed of 0-30 but the build quality on the AMGs is absolutely superb. I'm not a car journalist but I've driven thousands of cars in the past year and a half and the greatest new cars are Mercedes and Porsche. Other people build nice cars but not how nice Mercedes does. They are an amazing car company. The only company that rivals Mercedes quality is Lexus and the new Genesis.

Great one take, one of the most well rounded cars ever. Want 90-95% of this experience for a fraction of the price? B6/B7 Audi S4 Avant.....Wagon with throaty V8, AWD, Recaro seats, good brakes.....all for under $20k. Don’t believe the hype about unreliability. I have over 60k driving miles on two V8 S4’s and both were very reliable....knock on wood. Just need to keep up with regular maintenance. Mine weren’t low mileage cars either.

This car can do everything, there's no need to own more than one car if you're have one of these.

A difficult car to argue against unless its initial price is beyond reach. Would have been interesting to know if it had a cover for the luggage compartment or a spare.

So the S just has a better tune? Does that mean ppl should buy the non-S E63, if they plan on having it tuned for a few $k?

I'm led to believe that the non S version has a mechanical differential whereas the S version has a electronic one. Also, no drift mode on the non S.

Weird, my C63S bangs off the rev limiter and it bogs the hell out of the next shift. Difficult to time the shift correctly in manual mode. Maybe the facelift’s 9-spd acts like the E63...

I am looking forward to picking one of these up in a few years for less then half that. With an aftermarket warranty though....
