@@ms3173 The only luxury car I will ever buy is a Mercedes AMG because a German mechanic built that engine by hand and an army of college students assembled the entire car. I support the people of Deutschland. I will never buy an American or Korean car.
@@ms3173 The best-selling cars in America are Japanese vehicles. Fuckin moron with your blanket statements. I'm Arab btw before you continue with your ignorance
@Bernard Poindexter Sounds like you look at cars objectively.... /sarcasm Every single car these days looks the same. They all look like eachother. It's the tiniest of things that sets them apart, and the Genesis accomplishes looking competent but not outlandish. If you want cars to look good again, get the hippies out of the DMV and federal agencies making ludicrous rules that make no sense, that manufacturers have to abide by if they want to sell their cars at all.
@Bernard Poindexter u probably don't even have a fucking license. Sit down kid. And ur grandma wouldn't have to drive it cuz she'd be in the passenger blowing me.
Mee too. I am sick to death of stupid screens for gauges. It's a bad fad that needs to die. Look you can have a screen in the middle for secondary information, but the tach and the speedometer should be analog.
@Bernard Poindexter I thought I was the only one that noticed. They copy and pasted the whole fucking car. Nothing original or fresh. I get it make things cheaper but be original man.
For all the Genesis, Hyundai, and Kia haters, you guys don't know what you are talking about. I mean.. have you owned BMW and Benz before? Have you driven a newer Hyundai and Kia? I have owned Benz. I have owned Hyundai. My wife drives Acura. My current daily driver is a BMW E46 M3, which I spent a lot of time fixing to keep it running. I'm serious about compact sports car, and that is why I drive M3. HOWEVER, Genesis G70 is just simply BETTER than your average BMW 3 series or Benz c-class. For same price, it handles better, it is faster, it is as luxurious, and it is going to be far more reliable backed up by 5/10 year warranty. The Genesis G70 is also the car of the year by Motor Trend and AutoGuide. For someone who doesn't know what they are saying, Motor Trend car of the year is a huge deal. No other auto makers succeeded creating something better than BMW 3, which is the benchmark of the segment. Lexus, Cadillac, Infinity, Volvo, and Acura all failed. They made something better in one aspect but not the other. But Genesis did. They made something better than BMW 3 overall. This is remarkable. I cannot wait to buy one of this. For people who say Genesis is a garbage and BMW is so much better, I urge you to actually buy a BMW (you probably want 340 but end up with 330), lose racing against G70 on red/green light, drive it for 8 years, and spend thousands of dollars in repair, and tell me if you really liked BMW.
Just because most of the project managers, engineers and masterminds are the guys who worked for Volkswagen Group, BMW Group and Daimler AG. Literally Europeans. No way they could reach near European touch
That's 40hp less than the R/T ram we use for work. Also that truck makes a 5.2 seconds 0-60 mph. Basically on the same league than this korean thing on acceleration statement...
J Austin it’s got about 94 cubic feet of interior space. Combine that with its trunk which has about 10 cubic feet of space, and it has a total of about 104 cu.ft. of combined interior volume, placing it smack dab in the middle of the compact car class. It’s small. It’s only about 4 cubic feet bigger inside than my car, a 2009 Civic Si sedan. Those are the pitfalls of a RWD car. The design of a car with a longitudinal engine robs space inside. These are facts.
There's a really annoying noise on the left channel in the driving section, don't know if it's the car, but sounds like it, goes up or down with the speed, quite weird.
Alex Alejandre Lol! I had 3 BMWs, which all had confusing cryptic symbols on the dash I could never figure out. Sorry the GENESIS has much more functional and simple interior and dash than any BMW I’ve seen.
@@mikek1635 what are you smoking the whole set up is strait from BMW im not reffering to small things like icons i mean the whole set up the way the dash is set up. A top designer from BMW corporate moved to Hyundai I'm Not making this shit up. Do some research.
It’s the electric interference from the alternator. If you use some radios around something with a big alternator, say like large heavy equipment you will hear the same type of sounds. Usually changes pitch with the rpm of the engine.
Genesis engineers: Lets just put a easter egg in the manual; a cartoon boy, no one will ever notice. Doug: Its like they never thought anyone would see it. Genesis: You actually looked at the manual, Outstanding move!!! Hyundai: We told you that Doug guy would look.
tbh, I find myself saying his intro before I click on the video and am delighted everytime I hear him say it. I have no idea why. I probably need to see a therapist. ...or more Doug DeMuro videos...
I kinda have to agree with Doug, I think it looks pretty generic, especially from the back. Might as well be a 2011 Hyundai Accent. Front looks alright though, but still nothing too special.
DerfLrak believe it or not, nope. It’s the 3.8 which obviously isn’t as fast but I went from a focus st which is way more nimble and fun- but in terms of straight line speed, I’m not missing anything
Gary Basra I completely recommend it. I legit drove the 335, the c class, the giulia, the q50, and this was hands down my favorite with standard features and options and comfort
You have to give it to the Koreans: They release the Borrego in 2009 at the absolute time when people are running way from SUV's and large crossovers, and then they release high priced luxury sedans when the market in the U.S. is moving back to SUV's and large crossovers.
Doug the type of guy to have an answering machine message that says, “Hello. Hello? Haha just kidding. Go ahead and leave a message after the beep. Thanks.”
I don’t understand Doug, i don’t know the car anymore who he was reviewing but there he was complaining that it hasn’t electric sunroof ?????? and now he’s complaining its electric.
Oh for God's sake Doug, you would've complained if the G70 had a manual sunroof cover. Double standardss. He has openly stated that he dislikes Korean car brands, he's so biased
Haha.. you're right. But honestly for someone who claims to hate Korean cars he sure does review a lot of them. Maybe he secretly likes them and can't bring himself to admit it lol.
Yea, he was just nit picking when he complained about the switch for sunroof cover. And that analog clock face. Dude, that's just an extra, if you don't like it, ignore it. Its not taking physical space in your car.
you're the fucking reason why cars all look the same. they don't want to take chances because people like you all say stupid shit like that. you have a hard time with change huh.
@@CoolizBrown I have a 2017 Q50 and it hasn't been really changed much since the 2014's first came out, and the 2019's are still very similar. I think about what updates I'd like to see, what type of a refresh would be good for it, and to be honest, even though it hasn't changed in years, I can't really find much physically I'd specifically want to see changed. The only changes I think I'd like is updates to the technology software, but design wise, I'm pretty happy with it. They have had a dual touchscreen setup since 2014 in the Q50 that works pretty well, and combined, add up to a lot of real estate. It is a design I find very appealing. What types of refreshes are you thinking about? I'm very interested because I agree that in most cases, having your car look basically the same for 5 years can get really stale, but I'm just having a hard time finding things to really change on the Q50.
TygerTyger13 the q80 is such a good looking car but it’s interior is so far behind many Infiniti need an interior refresh it so at behind and some of there cars look so good it extremely disappointing

Hyundai knows what enthusiasts want. Analogue gague cluster. Affordable price, good performance, I would just like to see them go more along the land yacht route. Hopefully the new G90 will be the modern land yacht we all want. I am glad Genesis refuses to bend to the crossover crowd that is murdering the auto industry. The infotainment system looks like trash though. It looks like a knock off iPad in a bulky case glued to the dash. That trend needs to stop.
David Jacobs Yes Hyundai’s do last as long as Nissans and Mazda’s but still have a little ways to go to catch up to Honda and Toyota. They’re almost there but not quite. They’re cars still do have problems and their way of diagnosing problems with their vehicles isn’t all that great but they will figure it out sooner or later
@@LouisSubearth newer Nissans are pure garbage with their CVT reliability. Hyundai are good but not great with long term reliability, probably 250k miles
Generic-looking just means its a better sleeper. Not necessarily good for sales, but good for endearing drivers, who, in this segment, are looking to lease something new every three years.
A real gauge cluster will last forever. Those European cars with full digital clusters can ruin your day if something goes wrong, which we all know that it will.
This dude is way too biased against Asian cars, no way in hell does this car look too generic wtf. This car looks better than any A4, BMW 3 class, and Mercedes A and C class and arguably E class. Doug is too annoying sometimes
Hauvkuab Yang ??? Tf are you talking about? Stfu clown ass boy this car is trash, it ain't shit but a knockoff Infiniti Q50 and you ain't shit neither you bitch
@Simon German cars always break down. That's why Asian cars are the most popular in america and around the world bc they're reliable. And I never said Henesis was better than BMW or Mercedes or Audi. Its just the model and comparison to other cars in its budget.
I'm actually that type of guy xD I always searching for weird names and Hungarian names, but my girlfriend always says that there won't be any of the last one :\
I stay til the end. First, I've got a brother who does CGI and I tend to look for his name, because I never know what he's working on (and CGI always gets shoved to the end of the credits). Second, movies often have little post-credit Easter eggs that are worth waiting around for.
@@andyossie Smoking Tire have a fullscreen of the hood and a very small PIP of the cockpit at the bottom. As the professional channel they are. Doug don't even care for handling or engine.
I’m happy genesis is entering the lux market right by making sedans before crossovers. Crossovers might get them more sales now, but in 10-20 years they’ll be uncool with the general public the same way wagons are now, and genesis would be an uncool brand as a result. They’re playing the long game and it shows.
The Infiniti Q50 is the most direct competition to the G70. They both look very similar, are in a similar price range, and have similar specs. They also lease in a similar fashion to each other. All other brands have higher residuals with higher money factors. Both the G70 and the Q50 have low residuals with extremely low money factors. The biggest difference is that the G70 is actually in high demand right now so discounts are minimal. The Q50 sales are abysmal so they are offering massive discounts(~$12,000) on those right now.

Little Korea is eating our lunch. Why can't we come up with cars like these? Hyundai was a joke 20 years ago. Now, they are mentioned in the same breath Toyota, Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, etc...
It’s ridiculous right?! I never would have looked at a Genesis but when going to test drive a used SHO Taurus at a Ford dealer the car wasn’t available to drive when I got there and they had a Genesis 3.8 sedan on the lot. Test drive it, was impressed with the car and went out and found a 5.0 nearby. I’ve had it almost 2 years, absolutely amazing car, 420 hp and luxurious for almost 4 grand less than they wanted for that SHO...
because this shit will tank in value after 24 months, the engine **will** be subject to a massive recall, the subframe will rust out, and you'll spend the majority of your ownership driving a loaner vehicle because it'll constantly be in for repair. Kia motor company... the only car company on the planet that sells cars with predetermined dates with the junk yard. It's on the window sticker, you just gotta look for it. Think I'm wrong? Do your own research into the ongoing, constant, *MASSIVE* recalls for Kia. MILLIONS of engine failures. Car fires. Rust. Airbags failing to deploy. Airbags deploying when they shouldn't. Or, you can continue sucking on the marketing cock of this company like a little lamb.
In the gauge cluster, I prefer physical analog gauges. In an all-digital screen, if it should ever die, you are left without any gauges. In the middle of a long drive, this would be very upsetting.
Personally love what Genesis is doing and I really like this car. Previously owned a 3 series and currently own a q50 and I these cars always grab my attention. Big fan of the interior and unpopular opinion , I like analog speedometers !
Great review as always! Most car reviews emphasize big stuff (performance, how it drives, etc) but I love how you always get into the fine details and weird quirks of the car.
I saw one of these on the road and they are to DIE for. I think it is a mix of Alfa Romeo and a 3 series. So beautiful and simple not overdone. I'm sure dealers will give em away at steep discounts.
@@AlexM-fq5nb tweaking my sentence there. I would personally buy one. You think many people will fork over $40+K for a Hyundai? People are into badge recognition. Even though other options might be more expensive doesn't mean they're better. I was a BMW only guy then realized there are tons of better cars out there
@@AlexM-fq5nb you proved my point, those brands have been around for decades. They are recognizable! Genesis isn't, it'll take them years to prove they are worthy of such price tag.
Also lets not forget, this car was developed, tested and tweaked by the father of the BMW M5. Albert Bierman of course it's going to be phenomenal, it has the dna of old BMW'S M models. also...can't wait for the G70 N..
G70 RWD already performs equal to the latest / current gen M3 at the road course track. I don't think N is needed.... you can make a few aero kit and suspension tuning to further enhance the handling.
Raced this car last night in a q50 redsport. I was surprised how quick the car is!! The car kept up with the redsport. But the power differences showed after 70mph. Q50 redsport started to pull away slowly toward top end.
He does it again regarding the styling. 'they decided to play it safe and there's nothing interesting about the exterior styling....a few interesting items on the front though.."
Depreciation implies it loses value over time. You just instantly lost like half the value. But if you like it, good, then you can keep it and it ain't an issue.
genesis doesn't depreciate as much as hyundai.. I've been looking to get used genesis but boy they weren't cheap as I expected. There must be lot of demand on used perhaps
